Re: Last 10 days of Winter Window - What do we still need?

Holt is meeting with Derry City representatives to discuss terms this evening. Assuming it's agreed, we won't see him again in tangerine.

Re: Last 10 days of Winter Window - What do we still need?

Don’t blame him. If it’s true he’s getting a 2.5 year deal on 3K a week, fair play. He wouldn’t got that in Scotland anyway.

It's a good move all round.

I wouldn't have offered Holt a new deal in the Summer. He's done very well for United but we need better standard of players to take us to the next level. So, he gets a good deal to secure his future and we get some cash.

It also now gives Ross Graham more game time and i think he will kick-on and show good form now till the season's end.

Re: Last 10 days of Winter Window - What do we still need?

It's not a good move for United, in my opinion. A five figure sum (as quoted in the article) is pennies. If Goodwin wanted to give Ross Graham more minutes he could have done so, regardless of whether Holt was with us or not. Now we only have an untested young player as back up for the 3 at the back formation, so any injuries at all to the central defenders will leave us dangerously short.

I agree it's a decent move for the player and don't blame him for taking the money and European games on offer, and if he does go I wish him well.

I also accept that if Holt was adamant he wanted to leave then United probably had to let him go, no point in keeping him against his will.

Still a bad day for United tho, IMO.

We have Manny, Gallagher, Graham, Cleall-Harding and even Sevelj who can play Centre Half.

We could also play four at the back, doesn't have to be 3 CH's every week.

It's not great timing, but we'll be fine.

A lot of good points in this AU, most of which I agree with.

The good news is that Graham will get more game time. The bad news though is that we no cover for left sided CB and LWB.

Goodwin didn't trust Holt at LB/LWB.

He even played Glenn Middleton there ahead of him when Scott McMann got injured.

How many of those are left sided though?
We now have no decent cover for Graham or Ferry. The club should have moved to get someone in given this has been known about for weeks.

True but he was least an option.

100% let's hope this doesn't come back and bite us on the arse.

Re: Last 10 days of Winter Window - What do we still need?

Goodwin himself said, just two days ago

" We’ve not had anything on Kevin, and he won’t be going anywhere. It would leave us short in that area and we aren’t going to do that to ourselves."

I appreciate that it's not entirely up to Jim, and if the board accept the offer then he can't do much, but I suspect he'll be very disappointed. It wouldn't have been so bad if it was within our transfer window, and we could have brought in cover.

Sounds like Goodwin thought he was staying even as recently as Thursday. I would have liked cover for Ferry, that said.

Re: Last 10 days of Winter Window - What do we still need?

Holt is a big reason why our defensive record has been so good this season and it's a bad time to lose a player like that.
But it is what it is. We have to get on with it.
Good luck to KH, he's a top professional and deserves a good move like this towards the end of his career.

Re: Last 10 days of Winter Window - What do we still need?

See after reading United's statement, Kevin Holt can go take a flying fuck to himself.

Was basically threatening to go on strike and forced United's hand.

Prick.

Pretty shocking statement from United. The fact that they put that in writing shows the level of bitterness between player and club.

I don't see why they need to be quiet about it,if that's the way he's carried on then it's only right that the fans get the truth instead of blaming the club. Fuck him and his agent, Dundee united are far bigger than Kevin fucking Holt!

No, wasn't meaning the club should stay quiet. Sounds like we've been treated badly and we're quite entitled to say so.

End of the day holt gotta look after himself, it’s not great but can’t imagine United would be offering him the money he’s getting at derry on a 2 year deal.

Holy wasn’t cover for Ferry. The reason you’ve had Middleton stepping in there is cause Kevin Holt told Goodwin he didn’t feel comfortable playing there. I’d imagine Luca could step in there if need be as well

United are being a bit economical with the truth in their statement so they can justify selling a key player.

What actually happened is he’s got a groin injury that will need an operation at some point and he told United basically if they don’t let him go now, he’d be getting his operation now as he didn’t want to go into the summer injured as a free agent.

Which is understandable, especially when he’s got a team with a billionaire owner chucking money at him on a long term contract. Even without the injury, he’d be stupid not to force a move like that. If we wanted to keep him, we should’ve offered him a longer term deal by now.

Re: Last 10 days of Winter Window - What do we still need?

If he has threatened to go on strike rather than play the last 11 games to see out his contract it is a f##k off then and don't let the door hit you on the arse when your leaving.
