Unfortunately the Fat Charlatan wasn't bright enough to avoid falling for other charlatans.
With a bit of luck we'll just be asked to pay the money we are due without penalty. Penalties would just be further kicks to the nads. Ogren must be so embarrassed that he fell for these jokers.

Let's wait until we have all the facts of the case before we apportion blame to Mr Asghar, or anybody else. The club is appealing the ruling, and may be able to prove the money was properly spent. If so, then there is no case to answer.

It's not about money spent. This 'loophole' has always had a whiff of evasion where there clearly has been no R&D. We'll need to pay HMRC what we are due and, as I say hopefully we can convince them that we shouldn't get a penalty.
Your lapdog tendencies worry me...

It would seem the Revolution Sports mob used the ludicrous concept of 'The United Lab' to justify the R+D tax relief. Anyone with a functioning brain knew at the time it was absolute nonsense and was just more 'smoke and mirrors' to make it look like those running the club had a working 'strategy' that would somehow justify their positions. That Ogren was taken in by these charlatans should be a source of immense embarrassment to him.
Goodness knows he was warned often enough by the section of our supporters who aren't lap dogs, that he was being fleeced.

It's not impossible that HMRC might look into forums for evidence, from fans and officials with inside information. This comment may well come in as Exhibit A.
I'd like to politely request admin closes this post pending the outcome of the appeal.

Hahaha…here we go again….prosecutions in court based on what someone on a forum stated as his opinion…bore off.
Sincerely hope Ashgar and the rest are the ones punished if this is proved. No doubt it will be United though.

AU, i'm gonna say this in the politest way possible. Cease this snide, trolling act that you enjoy or your account will be deleted. Not banned, deleted. Indefinitely.
P.s. you better go and politely request that Alan Temple of The Courier deletes his article he posted earlier today.

Sorry, no offence was meant, I was genuinely a bit worried about how this was being framed. The courier article doesn't apportion blame (no journalist would) and is quite factual.
However I appreciate that there are strong views, so I won't comment further on this thread.

Stop being so naïve. I haven't read the article, but it will 'blame' the company and that is in effect blaming its directors and those running the company at the time. We know who they were/are.

Final post here before I also get deservedly perma banned for having to stick up for the fat controller have mercy Tek, cause I couldn't stand the chunt either.
I'm not a finance guy so if someone here is then I am happy to be corrected but I will say if the 1.28m tax credit is only being questioned for 600k then I suppose the finance aspect of it for United's point of view may be that it was sort of worth while?
Even saving 600K off the tax bill may be seen as a positive given that the claim was during covid when income was practically non existent, at least if we have to pay it back now then there is something coming in.
Expecting that the appeal is unsuccessful (I don't think many people best the tax man!) I would imagine that united would offer to pay it back in installments as most companies that mishandle taxes do, and so long as you meet whichever deadlines HMRC set, which I can not emphasise enough how important that would be, then it might be that the money men at United may see this as a win of sorts?
I'm not saying that playing games with the tax man is at all wise but it's just a thought.

He's either trying to sound like he's Asghar, worth a ban imo
Or, he IS Asghar, definitely worth a ban!
Seriously though, he winds folk up but he's not actually doing any harm is he?

Morphman, also not a finance expert, but I'd assumed the £1.28M figure was the amount the taxable element could be reduced by leading to the £600K tax saving, but could be wrong. HMRC could only be after the unpaid tax (plus any penalties).

My concern is that even if it's only 600k we have to pay back, it undoes a lot of the good work Goodwin has done in gutting the wage bill and getting it sustainable enough to the point we might break even in the next accounts or even post a modest profit.
600k is the equivalent of us selling around 1,770 season tickets. A very sizeable amount of money for a club of our size.
Ogren has a lot to answer for here and if this effects the Summer playing budget then the supporters should be rightfully angry.
