Re: January Transfer Window

I’ve made my peace with the fact Dalby won’t be here next season.

Re: January Transfer Window

Dalby has done well for us, no doubt, he's hit a right purple patch, I would be happy enough to retain him, but not by breaking the bank.

Come the end of the season his goal tally may well have tailed off, up until his first goal, I doubt many of us rated him, so let's not be too hasty in offering a biggish money, long deal.

Aberdeen, Hibs or Hearts can offer way more than we can and IF any of them are interested his agent/representative will already know and have ballpark figures of any wage he can command.

That's the way of the game, I trust us to get recruitment right, bar the odd hiccup it's been bang on for this season and last.

There's also the fact that nobody that has played for us, went to Aberdeen has really ever come back to haunt us.

Re: January Transfer Window

Both Meshak and Odada never featured for the reserves today which maybe signal that something is imminent with those guys heading out the door.

I think players coming in will be later in the window, as many have highlighted some pace up front and cover for Ferry.

We are in a great position also with a view to bringing in players for this summer and beyond now that we are certain to be playing premiership football next season. All of the current bottom six will be dreading finishing 11th and so won't be offering deals until they know which league they will be in next season.

Is the Dalby to Aberdeen on a pre-contract rumours based just on Scott Burns cryptic little tweet?

Re: January Transfer Window

Phil Parkinson the Wrexham Manager saying they will make a decision on Sam Dalby this week. I wish to fuck they'd hurry up so we know where we stand.

If they do recall him it's a huge blow and we'd need not just one but TWO Strikers. Or else we're back to square one options wise.

Wrexham fans don’t want him, they want better. I reckon they want a transfer fee because the twa teams podcast said Wrexham have 7 figures to spend on a striker. Dalby is good for us but not sure he’s worth quite 7 figures right now anyway.

Re: January Transfer Window

They have Mullin, Palmer, Fletcher & the boy Marriott coming back from injury. 4 good strikers, and apparently looking at a Sheffield Wed striker.

I’d say Dalby is at the back of their minds right now. He might get a new deal there. Either way, I’m sure he’s at Tannadice until May

The thing that concerns me is that Phil Parkinson has already confirmed their other loan players will all remain at their loan clubs.

But Dalby seems to be one that is giving them more consideration, i hope that isn't because they're about to recall him.

Re: January Transfer Window

Our young midfielder Alan Domeracki supposedly on his way to join Brandon Forbes at Norwich. Supposedly had two trials down there.

I'm wondering if we are about to announce some sort of partnership with Norwich similar to the one Dundee have with Burnley.

That'll be two young players they've bought from us in 6 months and we have big Manny from them.

It seems like there is some sort of a relationship forming there.

2+2=5

Maybe he hopes we'll think "They're gonna recall him, so lets bang in a 350k offer!

It wouldn't surprise me if there is some kidology at play.

Recalling him so we panic and offer some kind of fee before the window shuts.

Re: January Transfer Window

A few have said we need cover for Ferry but if you're a decent LB are you going to sit on the bench and watch Will perform for the rest of the season?
I wouldn't.
Meantime Holt can play LB, Middleton can play LWB in a 3421 and I think Stephenson has played at LB so I'm not expecting to see us sign anyone there. Cue signing announced tomorrow.

It would be a different story in the summer if Ferry is attracting interest and wanted to leave, we would be looking to sign a like for like replacement and that task is likely already on the radar whether for summer 25 or 26.

We're pretty well balanced, with Babunski back fit shortly and Sibbald like a new signing so I'd be happy if we just saw one cracking CF addition.

Middleton got roasted last time at LWB

Bringing in a young left back as cover wouldn't be the worst idea,  I remember we did the same with a young lad from Queens park once upon a time 😉

Re: January Transfer Window

Alan Temple has just tweeted that Meshak to Livingston on loan apparently.

Watching Twa teams I get the feeling the striker we are looking at is a young guy at an English Premier league side, could be putting 2+2 and getting 5 all the same😀. Might be in before next Monday night.

Re: January Transfer Window

Having seen him on the pitch he'll never make it to their ground, turning the wrong way at every circle and the car in reverse.

Re: January Transfer Window

Goodwin today

Dundee United are "quite close" to securing at least one new signing before Monday night's Scottish Cup derby at Dens Park, says manager Jim Goodwin.

The Irishman, who has yet to add to his squad in the January window, is targeting a forward but also looking to bolster midfield and defence.

"I think we're quite close with one definitely and possibly two. There's still a little bit of time before the game on Monday to try and get at least one of those over the line," Goodwin said.

"We're no different to any other team out there. We maybe don't have the resources and the funds available like some teams do to go out and pay fees for players. The recruitment up to now I think has been very good.

"We've been running with three senior strikers all season. Obviously Owen Stirton comes into that but still lacks that experience of playing regularly at Premiership level. I think we're still a little bit light at the top end of the pitch.

"We've had to go without [Louis] Moult for a considerable period of time which has left us only [Jort] van der Sande and [Sam] Dalby. We want to make sure we don't find ourselves in that situation going into the latter stages of the season. I also think midfield area and potentially a little bit of cover in the backline."

Goodwin admits United's impressive season so far - the Terrors sit third in the Premiership - makes the club "a much easier sell" to prospective signings, but says deals are still tricky to complete.

"It's not quite as easy or straightforward as people might think," he added. "We've identified good players who have other options. Sometimes the parent clubs are trying to get another deal done in order to free up that player.

"There's a lot of pieces that need to fall into place but I've got great support from the board. They backed me in the summer to bring in 13 new faces.

"They've backed me again this window to add a little bit more quality just to make sure that we keep that strength and depth in the squad and to try and maintain the position that we're in."

This rumour was doing the rounds the other day, not sure if I saw it here or on social media but if true would explain the comments Goodwin made today about strengthening the backline.

May explain him being “50/50”, and Harding’s return. It’d be an odd move though imo. If it happens at all.

Heard Liam Boyce heading to Derry

Tek Mockchop mentioned this on the 10th so it's not gone away.

Might also fit with the Cleall Harding recall

Re: January Transfer Window

Noticed Wrexham blew the chance to go top of the league earlier, losing 2-1 to Shrewsbury.

Steven Fletcher started up front on his own (and scored their goal). Ollie Palmer wasn't in the squad at all.

Worrying.

Cleal Harding is right sided,Holt isn't so if he's going we need left sided cover for CB and LB

Graham will slot straight to the LCH position,  cover required for the future though.
