Re: United vs Celtic - Sunday 22nd December - NOON

Nobody likes seeing the bus parked buuuuut we aren't battling against celtic in the season...we are battling the likes of motherwell and St mirren...and they both took 3 nil losses. A 'bonus' point for us could make all the difference for chasing top 6/euro places

If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.

Correct, and that Ian Crocker is a bit of a cnut. Nah make that a complete cnut.

It was a bit of a defensive masterclass really.  But I love watching great defensive play.
We still haven't figured out how to get out to threaten through midfield but maybe in time we will.

Re: United vs Celtic - Sunday 22nd December - NOON

They brought on 2 substitutes that each cost more than UTDs turnover.
Anytime we don't lose against those terrorist supporting #### should be seen as a major achievement.

Saw off McCowan saw off Hatate, they could probably keep putting subs on til midnight and we don't concede. Saying that we got a wee break when Kyogo got himself in a tangle.

A point v TheRangers in Glasgow and a merited point at home v Celtic marks great progress.

Manager and players deserve huge credit. At some point we might actually get a run of games with everyone available.

Too much commotion

Had a good feeling about today. Thought we defended brilliantly and limited them to shots from outside the box.

I think there’s an argument that he’s now our best player.  Outstanding.

Re: United vs Celtic - Sunday 22nd December - NOON

Well it mibbee wisna a beautiful Sunday, but it wisna bad ane efter ah, and it wisna the nightmare before Christmas it coulda been.

We couldna keep the ba fir the a lot oe the gehm but, fir ah the possession they had, they did eff all we it. We only had 1 less on target then they chunts.

As Tangy says, parking the bus isna a favourite, but it worked the day, stifling the all conquering bhoys.

Clearances we made were great, just a pity that we hardly had anychunt up the park to pick up the ba and hae a run thru the Celtic defenders.

A defensive class tho. Thought we just mighta nicked it near the end.

MOTM for me Middleton.

No a bad stockin filler. Well done Jim and the lads. Merry Christmas to all Arabs everywhere !

Re: United vs Celtic - Sunday 22nd December - NOON

Huge point won.

Like Redford I love to see good defensive play and the massive, intense, workrate that entails. On and off the ball.  Talking to one another, bodies on the line, showing them no respect.
So many good things to say but as Goodwin said post match one word summed it up - Concentration
Full credit where credit's due, cannot single out any one of them. all worked their bollocks off, all did what was asked.

If I had to name one name it would be Goodwin, he laid the platform, tactics spot on with press, shape and drilling. Classic example of what you can do with 30% possession.

First half was giving me the heebies a wee bit - playing out from the left. But not only was it about the only thing you could do against that wind but it was calm and effective with Ferry and Middleton giving them something to think about on occcasion. and by the end of the half you could feel their heads drop.
I thought despite the desparation hoofs up the park we were going to hold on, and oh aye and the two corners at the end were a help.

Good to see Docherty back.

Champion team vs Team of champions.

Re: United vs Celtic - Sunday 22nd December - NOON

If offered a 0-0 draw before the game I would have bitten your hand off but must admit I didn’t enjoy sitting there watching the Celtic centre half’s playing keep ball for 80 minutes 30 yards from our goal but still a great point.

Re: United vs Celtic - Sunday 22nd December - NOON

I hate watching United play Ultra-Defensive tactics.

But it has now harvested a point away to Rangers and a point at home to Celtic in a month. The first time we've taken points against both Old Firm since Tam Courts season.

There were no passengers today, everyone worked very hard for the point. My only disappointment was that the substitutes offered absolutely nothing at all.

I just can't get my head round why Mark Ogren wouldn't give Goodwin a bit of a budget for him and Michael Cairney to play with in January.

Our whole season revolves around January window imo (and not for the first time).

We have the smallest squad in the Premiership.

We also have the 6th biggest fan base, turnover etc etc.

There can be no excuses anymore given the finances are now under control.

Has he said there's no budget?

I'm pretty sure you're aware he hasn't commented on our transfer budget (or anything Utd related of late).

But Goodwin himself has intimated that there won't be much business and local journos ITK like Alan Temple etc have also alluded to the fact that there might be little or no transfer activity.

Re: United vs Celtic - Sunday 22nd December - NOON

If possible the one area where we need to strengthen is left wing back as it was really noticeable last week against Motherwell that we struggled with Ferry missing.

I don’t think we will see Middleton there again, if ferry was to be missing I think Stephenson or holt are more than capable of replacing him for a game or two.

We are absolutely crying out for a midfielder who can pass a ball and control a game (say it quietly I think levitt would be really good in this team along side sevelj/stephenson/docherty) and a bit of pace/power up front.

Not the Levitt part though Super Mario😃.

We spent big after courts abd got royally burned.....so can't see there being action unless players go out.

Next season, I think there will be an improvement

I'd be surprised if Goodwin would want Levitt, a player with the heart of a mouse and can disappear for spells in a game. But then I've been surprised before 😆

Re: United vs Celtic - Sunday 22nd December - NOON

Definitely rumours around Levitt.  He's clearly surplus to requirements at Hibs and they may well look to cut their losses on him if we take on some of his wages.  Personally I think there are better players out there within our likely price bracket, but will they come in January until the end of the season only?

Don't think it will happen.  I think Doyle-Hayes more likely and I'm even less convinced about that.

I also think a pacy striker is a more pressing requirement.
