January Transfer Window

January is coming thick and fast and I have been analysing where we need to improve.

Looking at players in their final six months, that would improve us for next season and beyond I would try and talk to the following:

Lyall Cameron from the filth.

Re: January Transfer Window

No name.

But Pace. Up. Front.

Re: January Transfer Window

A striker with pace
A back-up left back (preferably one who can play in a back 4)

Ideally:

A midfielder who doesn't break down every three games without explanation.

Too much commotion

Re: January Transfer Window

Tom Tonks, Tamworth Town. Not a CF but his throw-ins reach the far post.
What a weapon. I only saw the last 15 minutes but apparently it caused havoc all game.
The goal that won it, he launched one to the far post under the bar & the goalie punched it in under a mob of players.
Tamworth 1 Huddersfield 0. FA Cup 1st round, live on BBC 2.

Re: January Transfer Window

Number 1- We need to strengthen in the middle of the park, need someone who can play a dozen games or so without requiring to visit the hospital.

Number 2- a right sided CH or possibly drop Sevelj in there once the above is sorted.

Number 3- Pace up front.

Re: January Transfer Window

Moving players on who our out of contract - I would tell the following that they are not getting a new deal

Gallagher
Moult
Holt
Docherty
Newman
Middleton

Would give Babunski another year - he would be great with a new manager in a proper system, played in his ideal position.

The ones above are not good enough if we really do want to be a top 5 side.

Would go for Stuart Findlay and Danny Armstrong (both OOC at Killie in the summer) to replace Gallagher and Middleton

Re: January Transfer Window

First player i would be doing everything to keep is Jack Walton, but i highly doubt that’ll happen. He will definitely have a host of suitors down south.

to be fair to any of these lads, if they aren't in line for a new contract get them telt, it gives them a chance to start looking for something.

There's also some of the young lads, someone will have a list of the out of contract players.

Re: January Transfer Window

The point earlier re ‘what do we do in training?’

I think it’s just pull muscles and practice long throws

I'm assuming you mean the throwing bit rather than what happens once the ball lands in the box bit?

Re: January Transfer Window

Johnny Russell’s been released by Sporting KC. If he still has the legs for it, I’d 100% have him back if he’s planning to move back to Scotland

Re: January Transfer Window

4 years ago he said =inheritScotland striker Johnny Russell would not rule out playing in the SPFL and says a return to first club Dundee United would be particularly appealing.Russell, 30, is now in his third season with Major League Soccer outfit Sporting Kansas City.He left Tannadice for Derby County in 2013 and has won 14 Scotland caps."I had a great relationship with the fans - hopefully at some point I will maybe get the chance to get myself there," Russell said of United."I wouldn't say I have got a desire to come back - I love it where I am - but I would never turn my nose up to come back and play in Scotland."

Really means nowt though.

Vargas of Hearts rubishing Scottish football whilst away on International duty with Costa Rica.
Wanting away in January, thinks it's shite here.
He'll say he was mis-reported & loves the Jambos.

It's not like he's done anything to raise the standard is it.
Has a thread on Jambos Kickback all to himself, 5 pages of how shite he is.

Might as well stay in Costa Rica tbh.

On the face of it a no brainer and social media is full of bring him home stuff but I'm not convinced. Counter intuitive? Yes.

I'm not so sure we would sign him even if the money was right.
We have a very tight knit squad, very bonded, and the player recruitment model is based on future potential.

Fantastic player, will be interesting to see where he goes.

Re: January Transfer Window

Big IF he wants to come home but JR is a leader in the US. The fans and teammates seem to love Jonny F***ING Russell - so I doubt integration into the senior part of the squad would be an issue.

It will only happen if he wants it though. We won't 'convince' him with money - he's made multiple times more than he ever will at united... and there's a good chance he can stay in kc and live a v comfortable life being adored by their fans.

If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.

Re: January Transfer Window

No rumours at all at the moment from what I’ve seen but window opens in 4 weeks so assume we’ll have our eye on a few potential signings.

I don’t think we desperately need anyone and I’ve been pleasantly surprised at how well we’ve coped with injuries to key players like Graham, Trapanovski, Docherty, Strain, Sibbald and Moult, however I’d like to think if there’s a player who can improve us and is affordable that we will look to strengthen.

I think cover for Ferry would be good but difficult to get someone in to sit on the bench every week (think Ferry has played pretty much every minute this season).  A striker with pace is still lacking but we do have 3 senior centre forwards plus Stirton and usually only start with 1 up top.

Stirton will go on loan in January.

We have three Strikers.

One scores (Dalby).

One never scores (VDS).

One is 'ok' and scores sometimes, but doesn't play anywhere near as much as we need him to due to age and injuries and is also rarely risked on plastic (Moult).

We need a Striker. And they badly need pace. Three Strikers isn't enough if we ever want to go two up front.

Michael Cairney has had months to identify one. It's his sole job.

Re: January Transfer Window

Don't think JR is the answer to our questions - not that he'd come anyway.

Suspect that we are probably looking at a loanee striker from down south or another Balkan player we've never heard of before.

Had to read that twice to check it wasn't a wind up.
New manager? Seriously?
Gallagher and Holt have been immense and one of the reasons we'vebeen so successful.
Agree we're not seeing the best of Babunski though and I agree why.
But results are everything and right now we are getting them.

Re: January Transfer Window

I noticed Callum Morrison was back fit again and playing for Falkirk last night, always impressed by that boy every time I see him.

Direct and pacey,  right sided midfielder.

The big lad taylor at the back for St Mirren was decent also, he out of contract in May.

I'm a big fan of the boy Morrison.

We should have made a move for him after he tore us to pieces last season in the 4-2 game.

He was out contract in the Summer and we could have got him last January on a pre-contract.

He signed a two year deal so i don't think we'd pay anywhere near the fee Falkirk would want, which would be six figures.

Yes - we have a very limited way of playing that will catch up with us eventually, it is going great just now but IT WILL fizzle out. Recruitment in January is key, Gallagher is 33, Kevin Holt is 31 - we need to have someone waiting in the wings with top level experience to take us that extra step forward. I believe Cleal-Harding will come good and think he may dislodge Holt soon.

Babunski is being hung out to dry in this system - he is the most creative player at the club and is being shunted out from this position

JR is 34 but would be perfect foil for Dalby - would be reminiscent of a Daly-Goodwillie/Russell partnership, a short term spell while Stirton gets up to scratch would be ideal.
