Personally relieved it's only a 1 year extension and we haven't done anything daft like throw a 3 year deal at him.
I still think it's too early in the season and these type of talks should have been put on the back burner until about next March when we had a far better understanding of how this season is turning out.
But that's just me.

Overall I think he has earned it. Got us promoted comfortably in the end.
Has built what seems like a good squad this year.
Has achieved a points tally and league position at this stage I am very happy with.
Agree it means nothing if we fall apart from here, but don’t see it with how the team have fought this season. Also think we would have a few more points but for the injuries.

Not just you. Next March should have been the minimum time to review.

You think? His contract was up next May so when would you say was the maximum?
I'd have said let's see how we are after the festive period personally.

English clubs will be beginning to look at Goodwin if we keep performing like we have been so no surprise that we’ve extended his contract

I doubt there will be that much interest from down south. More likely they'll be eyeing up the other Jimmy imo.

Good bit of business from the club to tie up the manager who was just 6 months from his contract expiry.
Continuity is something in the manager position we have lacked and we can't keep up the constant cycle of hiring and firing.

They can look at both, there are levels obviously,
No Scottish based manager is going to Manchester United again Celtic win everything under Rodgers yet tye biggest club who showed interest was Leicester City.
Championship / Premiership yoyo would be the the Aberdeen boss could hope for and league 1 for Goodwin in current form.

I get the feeling with Goodwin that there is an undercurrent of 'wait til you lose 4 games in a row' & then it will be 'see ya later'.
There's a negativity even in the few posts on here so far with the doubters outnumbering those getting excited.
It seems he's just not convincing us all, it's a shame in a way cos I think he realises.
See what the mood's like at 5pm today - that's how fickle it is.
4 losses in a row is not inconceivable.
And see the finances regarding contracts...Say he's on £2k/week, it's maybe nearer £3k tho it's none of my business.
If we implode & he's gone before the season end do we have to pay him up until summer 2026? It's a lot of dosh & I guess we have plenty previous.
I don't know.

I have more confidence in Goodwin than I did in Fox, Ross, Courts, Mellon, Neilson,
Laszlo, Mckinnon, Paatelainen..
It's a ridiculous amount of managers the club has gone through in the last decade.
Nobody gets every decision correct however he got us promoted at the 1st attempt and has had a promising start to the top flight.
Only once this century have we finished higher than where we are now .
The almost addiction to hire and fire is a disaster for clubs like United.

We need results, stability, steady progress, tight management team, oh aye and did I say stabilty.
One of the things Goodwin does say is that we're a work in progress and the plan is to buy when budget allows.
We have a team who goes out and works their bollocks off for 90.
He's made a raft of very intelligent signings and kept a solid core from last year.
He gives credible, realistic and well thought out inteviews.
- Some hard dooers want is a team on fire every week and goals galore.
..... Doesnae work like that.
If I had any criticism - he can be a bitty stubborn. - Isn't any manager, and in his case it's an asset.
- Yup, good business, results speak for themselves.

Good points.
I think the 12 month rolling contract is what most clubs are on with their managers. With regards to compo, Goodwin proved he is not one for sitting about collecting a wage on his backside when he stepped up to take the job he is currently in.
You are spot on about the 4 in a row point, we will definitely at some point this season hit a sticky patch, the same old suspects are desperate to call for his head.

Happy with this tbh.
I think its sometimes a hard watch to see us sit in and soak up pressure..... but it's working. We are 4th in the league and not by accident. I don't think we can even call it lucky - for every hibs game where we stole the points at the end. There's a motherwell where we're didn't deserve to lose.
For the club - it's clear from previous interviews that planning for next season is already underway with regards to transfers etc - so let's get the top man invested in it, knowing that he will be here.
I think jim knows how to win in this league. It's not always pretty but I don't think any other teams would say differently. Even dons mates have grumbles over the style of play

This is exactly my opinion also, good post SL.
