Scored our goal from a winger putting a cross in then takes both the wingers off and loads up on the right hand side and central midfield with nothing down the left in front of Will so no attacking threat down that side.
What is the point of the Academy when not 1 player starting and only 1 used as a Substitute?
Big Ross and Miller only 2 to get game time from last 5 years.

A wise move would have been to take off Adegboyega after he was booked on the hour mark.
I take no credit for calling it at the time & we had Strain itching to come on.
Goodwin might have waited to take him off with 15 mins to go but it would have been too late by then.
Very disappointing, we gifted them 3 points.

A lot of valid point made by various posters on this thread.
VdS,what a waste a substitution and more frustrating as he gave us everything we knew he would but that wasn't what was required at that point of the match.
Fotheringham must be given an opportunity at Easter road, we are shot shy, just have a go FFS.
I agree also about the decision to bring off Middleton, completely bizarre, only people happy with that was both Mwell full backs.
Not a game we deserved to lose in my opinion however if you defend the way we did and don't have a shot when the chances are there, that the outcome I'm afraid.
First goal was Sunday league shit, outnumbered at the back on the free kick, it's the very basics. Young Mani looked very uncomfortable all night, Sunday will be a massive test for him.
Man for man marking on our half way line at our corners and some say the Jim is a very cautious manager, this is Russian roulette stuff. Get that in the bin especially when up against a speed machine like last night, complete bonkers and a disaster waiting to happen.
Thought Gallagher,Holt, Middleton and Big Sam done OK.
Would like to see some of the younger guys getting a chance, if not Fotheringham then give Stirton the last 10 minutes.

It's a long time since I was so cheesed off after a game.
We were the architects of our own downfall.
Gifting the opposition 3 points ain't clever.
3 points are going to be like hens' teeth in the weeks to come.
At this rate we could find ourselves embroiled at the bottom.
Yeah we've 4 players out but only 2 of them (Graham & Docherty) are 1st picks.
So where's this strong squad gone?
We have no punch thro the middle & don't get to the byeline enough.
Motherwell were there for the taking last night with their eyes on Hampden as well.
Adegboyega? I'm not so sure & neither is he. He sold the jerseys but should have been subed earlier. His yellow was so naive. Kids learning on loan here is maybe not the answer.
Sorry to sound so dismal, I'm an unabashed optimist but last night hurt a bit.
Last wee rant -
Where have all the Scotsmen gone? I would guess from both teams last night there were 6. Hibs had one on Sunday.

Couldn't make it last night, but sounds quite similar to the cup game at theirs. From the highlights it looked pretty even, but both their goals are avoidable. You can't really legislate for Manny's error and young boys will make errors. For me he won 3 points at St Mirren but lost 2 last night. He is for me however one of our best players and one of the reasons we are in the right half of the league.
Sometimes you just can't rely on fighting spirit and that's when the flaws in the team come to the fore. Missing Docherty, Sibbald and Graham is massive. That coupled with our fairly toothless attack means that winning games is going to be tough at the moment. We knew there was a lack of speed up top and that is definitely on Goodwin. Pretty much every team in the league has speed up front bar us. Players like Murray and Boyle can make it in Scotland due to their pace as opposed to any great footballing ability. I'll cut Jim some slack as I think building from the back is more important to get right (which to be fair he has done) but his plans up top just don't work. Pleased to see Dalby get another goal but there is currently too much resting on his shoulders.

Really annoyed with that. Another self inflicted lose against Motherwell. Goodwin’s subs were so defensive. Bringing on at 1-1 home to Motherwell, a striker with 0 goals in 11 and a centre mid for our 2 wingers.

I would suggest that Sibbald is a first pick as well.

My take on last night.
Taking off both wingers was a bizarre decision and I think that ultimately was the deciding factor. There could well have been reasons for that call.
Babunski lost his man for the first goal. He let the lad have far too much time and space in the box. As captain he should be doing better and leading by example.
Adeboyega fucked it for the 2nd, but out with that I felt he played quite well. I'm not going to bury him for that.
We had a lot of possession and we played a large part of the game in Motherwell's half.
When we play with wingers and with pace, we can take the game to anyone in this league. We desperately need to address the ability to get the ball effectively to our strikers from the centre of the park and we need to address the lack of pace throughout the team, apart from the wingers.
Things will get better when Graham, Moult, Sibbald and Doc get themselves back into contention. We all have our opinions on them, but those 4 are solid, no nonsense players that make us tick over better when they are in the team.
I'd be tempted to give Fotheringham a run out at the weekend to see what he can do at this level. He can only muster up more attempts on goal than Van Der Sande and as we all know, if we don't hit the target we have no chance of scoring.
I watched the Hibs highlights last night and they have a wee bit of pace about them on the wings but were limiting themselves to long range efforts of which a lot were completely missing the target. We have to try and keep them on their weaker foot around the edge of the box. Hoilett seemed to be pulling the string for them to a certain extent and seemed to be involved in a lot of their forward play. Keep him quiet and hopefully that will benefit us. Also, I hope Ferry is able to pick himself up after the last couple of games. I could be wrong, but it just felt like his head was down last night after the Aberdeen game.

Babunski is absolutely miles off it, was listening to the dode fox podcast after the hibs game and Ronnie said he was outstanding- genuinely couldn’t believe, he’s been piss poor for a while
Really need Doch or Stephenson in beside sevelj, not seen anything from odada to suggest he’ll be in the first 11

Last night has not changed my overall perception of this United team.
There is going to be an almighty scrap to avoid relegation with at least 6 maybe more teams involved, we are definitely one of those teams.

How quickly things can change in football in a few short days!
Friday we were in a good spot, now 2 losses on the bounce and a tough away game to come and we're looking over our shoulders as other teams pick up points.
I'm not going to entirely wash my hands of him but I'm not convinced by VDS at all. Did well against Dundee but he's one of those players that you see quite a lot in modern football, technically decent, a bit of strength, but what position is he actually meant to play? He doesn't seem to be a Centre forward, he's not an out and out winger or a 10 either.
He reminds me of Bodul, Van Der Velden, Appere, Keatings in recent years. You sort of see they have "something" about them but you just don't really know what it is or how to get the best out them. They appear in a variety of forward positions but only occasionally offer something.
Maybe I'm being harsh on appere, and sorry for the Darko Bodul PTSD!

Agree re Babunski. I think he's being played too deep and as a result his game is being affected a bit, but there is no denying he is a quality player.

I can't argue with that but Wm Hill can, you can get as much as 11/8 for us finishing in the bottom six.
They actually have us to be 4th in the league.
Obviously they weren't there last night!

Jort Van Der Sande.
Twelve appearances.
Zero goals. Zero shots on target even.
Meanwhile a boy who scored 15 goals last season can't get a minute. Time to give Fotheringham more of a chance. He can't do any worse. Literally.
Agreed

Big Manny was poor last night. Why he let the ball bounce for the second goal is beyond me. I would have had him subbed but there was no real replacement for him unless Jim changed the shape. Putting the two up front played into Motherwells hands as their back 3 were really solid especially Casey who was really good.

He does it a lot, but never really been caught out, he’s got a bit of ayina about him but I do think he’s a better defender, does everything a few seconds too slow, all a bit lackadaisical

Motherwell tried the same free kick routine 2 mins before their first.
Didn’t come off, but we made sure to stand still and let them do it again.

The two of them were perfectly flighted balls from Lennon Miller.
There's a feature about him on BBC Scotland, Scottish Football, very interesting story.
He looked very composed last night for someone just turned 18.
Looks like he's going to be very special.
Big game on Sunday v Phillipe's Phlops.

Seek as a phuckin doag. Canna believe we never got phuck all.
Mair possession, mair shots, mair coarners. It was looking every bit like a drah for a lot oe the gehm (IMO), but a stupid decision, beh 1 player costs us big time.
Could he no boot it oot, or get it back to the keeper, or foul the chunt and tak a Raed for the team.
We definitely didna deserve that.
Seeking her phuckin erse so it would.
