What credit do we deserve?

That went pretty much how I thought it would. We are still well short of the talent and depth of squad to compete with teams at the top of the league, particularly away from home.

Re: Aberdeen Vs Utd - Saturday 26th October (5.30pm)

'Pacy' forwards don't grow on trees.
If they did we'd have had one by now.
Your Dalbys & Van der Sandes are as good as it gets.
I think we'll need to go for 1-0 wins with the goalscorer being spread thro the team.
I think we'll be ok, maybe not top 6 but there's enough there to stay away from the bottom two spots.
Remember that was our expectation at the outset.
Don't like your Killies, Countys & Saintees (tho can forfive the latter) picking up surprise 3 pointers here & there.
The bottom positions might get a bit congested with the Fun joining in too.
It's going to be an interesting season.
Bring on the Motherwell & I trust we'll have more fans than the 5,000 home supporters at Dens yesterday.

Re: Aberdeen Vs Utd - Saturday 26th October (5.30pm)

It's difficult to be too critical of the players and manager and a bit of perspective is needed.

Aberdeen have spent well, they have a settled maturing side, they're flying at the top and they were at home.

We have a midfield depleted by injuries, our best CB was missing and our best goalscorer was missing.

And after all that, we were close to shutting them out. We're progressing and although yesterday highlighted our limitations middle to front, we're sitting in 4th with a squad that will get better and get stronger as we get injured players back.

It definitely wasn't pish 😎

Re: Aberdeen Vs Utd - Saturday 26th October (5.30pm)

We defended pretty well overall but just run out of steam at the end. Missing Graham, Doch, Sibbald and Moult is a killer for us. Jack Walton showing his worth with that save too. They didn’t have anything in the first half but the second half they overran us and tbh that’s where i want us to be next season, overrunning teams. If we’re gonna lose a match i want it to be in that manner, battle until the end. It was good to see Ryan Strain back fit, he’ll be a good signing once 100%.

Fuck them sheep bastards, we can take them in December.

Re: Aberdeen Vs Utd - Saturday 26th October (5.30pm)

Thoughts echo some others above. Thought we were decent enough defensively but offered nothing going forward. Bit of an eye opener as to the strength of our team, newly promoted with not a massive strength in depth and an okay level of investment versus an established premiership side who have invested fairly significantly (in Scottish football terms) and invested well.

Dissapointed with the lack of offensive punch, but another well organised showing that is really what we need to have weekly to pick up the points that will make sure we avoid the drop which ultimately is the goal this year.

Could've easily been 2 or 3-0, and at the same time if Ferry hadn't slipped at the end we could be celebrating a very decent point.

Final key point for me is that this is not the kind of fixture that will be the barometer for us this season. Dissapointing, but I'd be considerably pissed if this were Killie, Dundee, St Mirren that we'd put that sort of performance against.

Totally agree.

Dearth of resources shown when we're going there with with 3 players who have been concrete in our starting XI out and we're having to bring on a waste of space like Odada.
No mistake Sheep are a good side and we very near got lucky.
Good to see Strain back.
Could not believe Walton's save.
Ferry's chance  on that surface wasnae easy, it was Holt missing the free header was our best chance.

Yup get it in perspective

IMO the circumstances matter Tek. If Brechin played Real Madrid in a competitive game, didn't get a shot on target, had 8% possession and lost 3-0 after keeping themselves in the game for over an hour, you wouldn't turn around and say Brechin shouldn't get any credit. .

But this isn't Brechin City vs Real Madrid. It's Aberdeen vs Dundee United.

Yes, the players gave effort, but that is the minimum requirement we should always expect.

That aside, i don't regard it as a performance that was particularly praiseworthy. I'd file it under 'one to forget' and move on to Wednesday where we should be looking for much more from middle to front.

On an unrelated topic, I wanted Odada to do well yesterday.

He was fitter than he was on his debut. But he's not very mobile and he almost sold himself in a couple of challenges he made after he went diving in needlessly. He looked nervous when he came on.

I don't see him getting much game time moving forward.

I also want him to do well, we really can't afford to sign duds anymore if we can help it. I thought he spent much of his time running into spaces where he couldn't receive the ball and the rest of his time looking totally lost. Does he not train with the rest of the squad? Because he looked like he had no idea what his role was last night. Adeboyega was excellent last night and whilst I get the tactical switch,he really doesn't deserve to be the fall guy each time.

I said a few weeks back, i just don't see it happening for him at United. The fact Docherty and Sibbald are both out and he still isn't starting games speaks volumes. He looks like a fish out of water.

Also thought it was quite telling that Meshack never played even one minute yesterday, considering we were chasing the game and he'd scored the winner the week before.

Doubt we will see much of him going forward either.

So who does that leave us with as at now ?
To answer my own question Kai.  I'd go further and ask why  the laddie's no further up the pecking order full stop,
.... Mebbe see him back v Motherwell ?

Kai isn't going to make it at this level imo.

Re: Aberdeen Vs Utd - Saturday 26th October (5.30pm)

Played well first half, second half we played for a draw which we looked like we were going to get but for one slack bit of play.  Still, think we have a decent outfit given the player we had out.

Just a thought, could Adeboyega instead of being subbed when changing to a back 4, could hedo a job in midfield. I don’t know tbh.

Unfortunately I would agree with that.
There were a good number of games last year, Raith & Dunfermline away spring to mind where he was completely bullied out of the game.
One big difference in the step up this year is it is even more physical.
Unless he bulks up and adds a bit off aggression to his game he will be a lower league player.

JGs judgement of players had been good so far. Have any of the 13 released players gone on to better things?
I think he is getting it correct with Fotheringham

Well he's still in his matchday squad so he can't be counting him out altogether. I don't understand the way some players get written off at such a young age,you know he's nowhere near his peak yet right? Perhaps JG is working on those very things behind the scenes? All I know is he scored plenty of goals last season, and the championship is a very physical league itself,he's worth trying out at this level before being written off.
