I just don’t get why we keep accepting such pishy money for our young guys. It has been happening for at least 10 years now. As I understand it, if we offer him a new deal and he rejects it, we are entitled to compensation. It is usually about 300k. Maybe we wouldn’t get that for Forbes if he has only been with us for a year. But in general, why not keep them for the final year. Try and get something good out of them or let them rot, and then get the same money at the end of it. There is also a small chance of getting them to change their mind.
Blocking young players from moving on for more money or ' letting them rot ' would make selling the club to the next generation of players and their parents almost impossible.

Agree with this. For every £2.8M Robbo there's going to be 2 or 3 Brandon Forbes that's just the way it is. The academy is expensive to run and it's not like we're getting 16000 through the gates every fortnight. And in this case we don't know maybe the players wanted to go, very unlikely he's getting first team minutes for us this season.
But it's a pisser because he looked a cracking prospect.

It's because the club keep pleading poverty and everyone knows that we need cash and will drop our knickers as soon as a bid is made.

Very much my opinion. If they play one senior game for us and then F off as quick as they possibly can for a compensation training fee then I have no time for them what so ever.
In fact, the way it has gone in the past 10 or so years and with the enormous costs now involved in having a youth set up, I am starting question the point on having one at all. It seems every player coming through who has any talent is gone before they are 18 and have had very little impact in our team. I do not know the figures, but I would be surprised if we are not losing a fair chunk of money on our youth system every season in the hope we can maybe offset the losses with a big transfer in future. I just don’t see how that will be possible if the best young guys leave as soon they play a game or two.

Don't know much about him but has a poor scoring record at a lower level than ours so I hope this is bullshit tbh

Really disappointed with the forbes news. It's put a dampener on what has been a v positive transfer window.
It's disappointing to see a player leave after 2 sub appearances. I think he would have been used by us, albeit not a 1st team regular and hope he is going to join their first team and not just plod away in the u23s which is most likely.
Is there much point in having a youth development if we can't see boys play 50 games? Just let a bunch of Macedonian clubs do our youth development

Sun reporting this now, bizarre complete opposite to what Goodwin wanted.
Must have not got other targets

As someone who has been a member of DUSF and paying my monthly fees almost since it started, and since our fees have generally been used to improve facilities for the academy (i.e. Gussie Park / Foundation Park), it's definitely disappointing that we don't really get any opportunity to see the fruits of our donations. I could look at it as our donations are used to improve training and playing facilities for the academy so we can develop more young players who can be sold asap in order for the Ogrens to recoup their losses.
On the other hand, I could look at it as our donations are improving facilities that will increase a revenue stream that will help us buy quality players who are first-team ready. Maybe we could have kept Forbes if we had gone without Trapanovski, and who is going to have a bigger impact on the first team this season?
Ultimately we care about the quality on the park rather than balance sheets, but as long as the folk who have to deal with the balance sheets are also primarily focussed on the quality on the park, does it really matter how we get there? And it's not the case that none of our academy lads make it to the first team and cement a spot there. Big Ross Graham is a case in point.
The other thing I considered is a couple of thousand Arabs have been donating every month to DUSF for several years, and we have supported about half a million's worth of improvements. We've just sold Forbes for 300k, and he could end up making us a lot more than that. I read maybe in this thread that 300k is peanuts on a turnover of 12 million, but turnover is not just income, whereas that 300k is. So unless we are going to argue that DUSF donations are having no impact on the club, we can't then say that 300k + add-ons will have no impact.
If I need a silver lining to sweeten this deal, it's that Forbes came through the The Rangers youth system, and they then rejected him. We've had him for a year and are now getting a decent payout. The The Rangers Loyal will be raging.
I wonder what Goodwin thinks about this? I think he's probably a realist and is doing what we need to do to be successful right now. If he can bring in unknown Europeans for peanuts and we can do a Miovski a season or two later, I'll take that.
Balanced as always.
Wish the laddie well and he's made the right move to head south.

Probably the first signing of the summer where I’ve went mehh
Totally not what is required, but we are short in numbers up top if moult or VDS get injured, surprised we never went for a 6 month loan instead of full season
Screams a bit of a Jordan tillson signing last summer

Forbes out, Wrexham boy is pretty deflating. Tye window had been pretty good up until thst point. I guess the academy is meant ti be our DNA....then you see forbes score a peach and then hes gone. No chance to see what his potential is or do anything for us.
He might turn out to be amazing - plenty boys have done nothing in England and come up and scored Barrowloads.
Also - played in the same league as will ferry last season

I think we've got to be really happy with window overall.
Got our business done early, signed some cracking players on good contracts and I'm pretty sure some of them will eventually attract significant fees. It's almost a revolution compared to the squad from the Championship. Maybe folk were expecting too much on the striker today after the quality brought in so far?
I'm disappointed like everyone else about Forbes but by all accounts he wasn't signing on.
It's definitely not going to suck any optimism out of me that's for sure.
I'd go as far as to say it's probably the best window we've had in many a year.

Maybe stating the obvious, but maybe the Forbes and McLeod moves are a necessity for Ogren to pay down his debt. It was said at the time by TA that the Academy would just generate fresh talent which would be sold on to bigger clubs as an income stream. I think that is all it is.

Done a good job for us last season.

I keep reading this. Not sure i totally subscribe to this.
Signed the same Goalie as last season. Personally think we could have done better.
Needed a CDM. Now playing Sibbald and Docherty and even putting Holt in there. Odada nowhere to be seen.
The right sided winger we have been crying out for has barely played despite being here for a few weeks now (Ubochioma). Personally think we had one in Forbes who could have added something this season, but he's out the door before we even see him play a league game.
Needed a pacey Striker. Have had the whole Summer to get one. Haven't signed one.
Instead sign a Striker who looks similar to Moult and VDS.
Not sure that is the massive success some seem to think it is.
Though the next few months will reveal all.

Second that. Was very steady and rarely let us down. Got some unjustified criticism at times from fans who wanted MT at RB but being brutally honest MT wasn't ready imo. Hope he finds a new club soon.

But were only 3 league games in and there's plenty more to come from this side. Most fans wanted Walton back and so far he's done great, made two goal saving stops v Farmers. Not made a mistake yet either.
Goodwin had to change from 3 up front because Sibbald Babunki was getting run over hence more strength in midfield and one less attacker. So that's the right side attacker sacrificed for now. FWIW he's got decisions to make because if he stays with 3 CB'S he's going to struggle to get the attacking potential he needs because 2 wing backs still needs 3 in midfield. Ie 9 positions taken up before you choose 2 in a strike force.
It's worked better since he solidified the midfield so he deserves credit for seeing the problem. Odada is meant to be the CDM your saying he's not signed one. Holt was outstanding in the Mirren game at CDM but maybe a temporary thing, Docherty is more attack minded though. I'd like to see him go 433 at home v the likes of County to see if it clicks and either MT or Meshak would get the nod for the right side attacker. Can't see him changing it for now though.

No, i didn't say that. I said we have reverted to playing the same midfielders as last season and even shoe-horning Holt in there. Which signals that this is not an area of the pitch where we can claim the recruitment has been a success (so far).

I've read your post again and your right about what you said about midfield. I think they expected Odada to be pretty much ready for first team action but realised in the LC he wasn't.
Whether he will be remains to be seen. (But we have with Odada added to the midfield)
I think Svelj will also do a decent job there if called upon.
I also think it was always the intention to play both Docherty and Sibbald in this division, sure I saw an interview with Doc where he said he was looking forward to it. So with Svelj Holt Odada when fully adjusted plus Stephenson who can also play there when Strains back we do have options.
If I'm honest I'm a bit disappointed by the reaction of some of the fans not all just a few because in Ferry Babunski Trapanovski Sande Adeboy Stephenson etc the recruitment team have brought some fine players to the club. Could it be better aye but we don't have an infinite budget.

No, we don't.
Which is why i'm a wee bit disappointed we have signed players who aren't getting a look in, in key positions of the team and also that we have signed two Strikers this window but (on paper) their attributes would appear to be very similar and neither have pace.
Something i think we all have said we need up top.
If we are talking about budgets btw, lets talk about giving Liam Grimshaw a 3 year deal and then paying him off with 2 years left. Not exactly helpful to our recruitment pot.
Anyway. Window is shut now, we just need to all hope for the best now.🤞🏻
