What XI on Sunday ?

Re: Dundee Utd vs St.Mirren - 2nd Round League Cup (2PM)

Walton

Adegboyega
Gallagher
Graham

Thomson
Sevelj
Sibbald
Babunski
Ferry

VDS
Trapanovski

They play a 352 usually in the league, so I'd match them up. Easy enough to put Sevelj wide right and Miller further up if needed.

Think I’d go with same team but I would probably give moult a start instead of VDS

Never mind the team, what about the crowd?
Are we not anticipating much interest in this League Cup tie?
Only Dode & ET lowers open, St Mirren fans in the Shed.
Crowd less than 6,000? Puzzling that.
It's our best chance of winning anything or at least getting to New Ibroke.

Ticket sales look poor again for the league cup. Got to the stage where the club probably need to look at including these kind of cup games on season tickets.

Re: Dundee Utd vs St.Mirren - 2nd Round League Cup (2PM)

Would never dismiss the league cup as it's the most likely silverware route, but I hate the current format and I think that maybe puts people off.

Firstly It starts way too early, we seem to treat it like pre-season friendlies, teams getting byes, the stupid league seeding format, the penalty decider, that even if you lose you get a point, then the draw is seeded again.

As for Sunday, it's another game moved, it's free to watch on Virgin Tv and it's £20 better kept in a lot of people's pockets as we're in transition.

The club expect the fans to turn up and pay to get in, in a competition they treated with some disdain a few weeks back.

I'd probably pay say £50 extra on my season ticket and that maybe gets you 3-4 ties in a cup competitions, you take the chance, it's the gamble, better than having to pay out every time.

Re: Dundee Utd vs St.Mirren - 2nd Round League Cup (2PM)

I've always thought taking away the European place for the winners is what devalued it, particularly in the eyes of fans of the provincial clubs since it blocks an avenue into Europe. That's why the Scottish Cup continues to get better crowds.

Premier Sports is free in August on Virgin.

Watch them switch this to their streaming platform now that i've posted this!

FFS Me!

Listed as on Premier Player, not sure if you get access to that as part of the free month or if you need to pay.

Re: Dundee Utd vs St.Mirren - 2nd Round League Cup (2PM)

The group stage devalues the competition, as does the lack of European competition for the winner.

I can see that it was always a secondary competition to the Scottish but by having so many games early doors when you haven't got half your team and those that are in may not be fit means it's a coin toss. Likely, a wee'er team will have more desire to be in it than a bigger team and that will win through so early in the season.

It also has ruined preseason. A wee tour of Ireland or the Netherlands is good - equally, some of the teams who have come to Tannadice are more interesting to watch.

They made the changes to try to enhance the competition and maybe it does for selling it to tv companies when there's no other football on but it just doesn't work for fans u till the qf, sf stage.

If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.

Re: Dundee Utd vs St.Mirren - 2nd Round League Cup (2PM)

For me it's makes absolutely no difference how we got to the last 16 match. Whether that was through the group stages or by winning a straight last 32 knockout tie.
If we win were in the last 8 , who gives a f**k how we got there
.

Sevelj shouldn't be that big a miss.

Have plenty of cover defensively now.

I'd have played him in midfield. They are a big, strong running outfit. Anyway, not much we can do.
