First home league game against the Diamonds since the penultimate day of 1995, when the sides drew 2-2.

Re: Dundee United vs Airdrie - Saturday 1st September

Same team again for me, unless Sibbald is fit(unlikely though I'd imagine)

4-1 United!

My 4-1 forecast is hereby declared a load of bollocks. 1-1 at best now.

Re: Dundee United vs Airdrie - Saturday 1st September

Time for Freeman to take a game.

Same goes for all these other Academy lads that Goodwin seemingly has so much faith in.

It's Airdrie. At Tannadice.

Mwangi and Constable on the bench today, anyone know anything about these two?

Mwangi is a young attacking player (Winger/Striker).

No idea on Constable. That's a new name to me.

Just shows how light our squad actually is, that there are 16 year olds on it we don't know.

Anyway Half Time - 1-0 Utd. Just hope we don't rue these missed chances.

Re: Dundee United vs Airdrie - Saturday 1st September

2-0 win. That'll do.

Young Constable who came on is Scott Constable. A midfielder.

Apparently made his Scotland debut for the U17's the other day against Switzerland.

Re: Dundee United vs Airdrie - Saturday 1st September

A really tough watch that today but I will take that until the rest of the season so long as it gets results.

Promising start and the both teams failed to restart after a 10 minute break for someone in the East stand not feeling to great. Hope the person is OK.

The negatives for me-

Tony Watt, I just don't see what he is bringing to the team. Constantly coughs up possession and his heads welded to the ball when he is on it.

Liam Grimshaw, Must do better at the basics, second to everything,  another who was dreadful when passing the most basic balls today.

Moult, I thought that wasn't his best today and is capable of much better. Got to improve on his hold up play.

The positives-

Gallagher and Holt, cigars oot and strolled it.

Glass was decent in spells.

The team had clearly been coached on our shape all week and were very disciplined and despite a chunk of possession the never really looked like scoring apart from a bit of hesitancy in our part and not clearing our lines.

Another 3 points and top of the table and only 32 more games to go😀

Mwangi is an 05. Just got a new 2 year contract in the summer. Came from Hutchie Vale during covid. Stand out player in that team I believe

Pretty much sums it up. Gallagher man of the match for me, closely followed by Holt.

Re: Dundee United vs Airdrie - Saturday 1st September

Didn’t think Grimshaw was as bad as some folk were making out. Gallagher and Holt again class.

Wouldn’t mind seeing Fotheringham in for Middleton for Morton at home.

Re: Dundee United vs Airdrie - Saturday 1st September

Re: Dundee United vs Airdrie - Saturday 1st September

The team looked more solid around 60mins when JG took Watt off and went 4-5-1.with Meekinson & Glass either side of Grimshaw.
If Glass plays it should be where Watt has been playing.
One of Airdries few chances was when Glass chose to try and close their keeper down allowing his man to run about 50yds resulting in Walton tipping over the bar.
We.need Docherty &Sibbald back, get Grimshaw to RB , Glass in place of Watt then we should be OK.

Re: Dundee United vs Airdrie - Saturday 1st September

Really chuft we the start, great pass fae Middleton to Cudjoe, and then perfect finish.

The gehm was suspended when the young lassie took no weel, TBH, Efter the restart, Eh didna enjoy the gehm. We lost control.

What was that phuckin nonsense aboot in the 2nd half. 15 mins when we stood like showroom dummies in oor ain half, and Airdrie played tiddlywinks in theirs. Their keeper was standing 30/40 yaerds oot. If only 1 oe oor players, had a go, they mighta just got the ba, and we mighta had a chance to play the ba past thir keeper (like last week at Ayr).

Well, my wish came true in the 94th when Airdrie's luck ran oot. Keeper tred to clear the ba, and it went straight to Fothery. Musta been 40 oad yaerds oot on the right wing, and he just rolled it straight inta the net.

Queue the bedlam ! Meh mates to the left, right and in front oe me had ah left, and missed the goal, but Eh got a hug fae the wifie behind me.

MOTM for me Glass.

Re: Dundee United vs Airdrie - Saturday 1st September

Apparently the possession thing Airdrie did in the 2nd half is their main tactic. They look to pull players out of position and hit on the break.

Folk at the game all screaming and moaning as Airdrie, one goal down, fannied about in their own half.

The one time we broke ranks they got through our defence.

Folk need to appreciate that it's a tactical game, allowing them loads of the ball when they're doing nothing with it is fine.

We then punished them the one time they were loose.

Also, possibly without the break in play, we'd have scored at least another 1 or 2, we were so far on top.
