Harry souttar

Was always a bit dissapointed not to see him play a bunch for us but he's moved away and served his dues...now Stoke captain and tipped for a Premier league move.... do we have a sell on fee on his contract?

On a side note - sad to see him playing for the socceroos and not scotland

Re: Harry souttar

It was described at the time as an 'undisclosed fee'. They always use this language when it is a fee that the selling clubs supporters would be up in arms about. Therefore i am pretty sure we must have put a sell-on clause in the deal.

Always thought he had more potential than his Brother. Was at his debut (3-3 against Partick) and he strolled the match. Our best player on the night.

Not a better player than John. But a better Defender. Has all the physical attributes.

Re: Harry souttar

Not that I'd even want to second guess a fee but if 2 premier teams want him then 10m could easily be achieved.... even 10% would be well worthwhile

I doubt they will be selling him for any less than £20 million and are likely looking for much more going off the reports. This could be a huge windfall for United, provided the sell on still applies since he signed a new deal.

£200,000 was the fee mentioned at the time. 200,000 and potentially over 1 million from sell on is no bad at all. Could all come to nothing mind you.

Re: Harry souttar

Courier reporting 15% sell on clause (behind pay wall so you might not be able to read it). It wouldn't entirely surprise me if the Courier are only running this story because they spotted this thread.

Could be a real game changer for United if true, especially if a bidding war ensues 🤞 ker fucking ching!

I'd imagine the baldy snake is gonna be sick as fuck if this transpires too.

Re: Harry souttar

Boy must have improved a lot after he left us.  Remember watching him in a friendly v Whitehill Welfare and he was bowfing.  Kept looking to the touch line so Davie Bowman could tell him what to do.  He was v mobile for such a big lad though so if he's filled out and kept that ability then I can see why he's wanted, but £20M!  It's just silly money down there.  For us a cheque for £3M would be amazing.

Kerr Smith looks twice the player at a younger age - maybe we can get the £3M upfront for him and a sell on!  The Project might just work....

We'd be able to brign back Ciftci and Safranko with that cash and maybe even Johnny Russell when the Noel Hunt money comes in....what's Andy Webster doing these days?

Sounds like £20 million is just a start figure tbh Finn, more than one club looking at him and it could end up much more.

We need to make sure of a healthy sell on percentage on young Kerr Smith and if we do get a big payday from the Souttar sale then we will be in a far better bargaining position for when that time comes.

I'm sure Mr Ogren will be taking a large share back into his own account, only fair really, but it should still increase our transfer budget considerably too.

Re: Harry souttar

Stoke are sitting 4th with a real shot at getting up. They go up and you can stick another 10million on his value. Unless there's a time limit on the sell on clause let's all keep our fingers crossed for them to get promoted.

Agreed - we clearly need to keep Ogren sweet.  Genuinely though £20M+ is crazy money. Happy to take our cut though.

Re: Harry souttar

And still we've got grant Hanley and Stephen odonnell starting for Scotland...a souttar/mulgrew dream team must be due 🤣 (pity he's all over the Australia squad)

Not that I'm saying he will go for this money...but Nathan ake is the championships highest transfer fee at 40m to man City- but that was with considerable premiership experience... second was dembele at spurs for 30m.

Infact if he were to be sold for £20m, it would be the 16th highest fee received by a championship team.

He still has 4 years left on his contract - so if he does go anywhere, it won't be cheaply - but you'd imagine if Stoke go up, he'd get a bumper deal there

Re: Harry souttar

Agree with Finn on this one- I saw him play a few games back around that time too and thought he looked like a cart horse.  Fair play to him, clearly worked on his game and improved.  The figures being talked about just go to show how fucked up the game is ion England though.

Re: Harry souttar

Bowfin? Cart horse??
The boy was about 17 at the time with a 6'7" frame, can we maybe say he was a bit ungainly?

Another one who escaped the ranks of loving Arabs. Not him that's bowfin. Far away from us he's developed into a £20 million player.

My comment was about a particular game about 5 years ago.  I wouldn't have vocalised (and didn't) that I thought he was bowfin that day, but he was.  That is a fact.  I was most surprised that a young pro needed to constantly look to the sideline for approval/instruction.  He was ungainly, but that wasn't my criticism it was his decision making and positional sense that were an issue, not his physical attributes (but dive on in why don't you)

I have never given a player grief and never will.  I am however allowed to comment on their performance.

I am not sure who annointed you as the holder of the moral high ground, but you are feckin boring.

FWIW I'm delighted that the lad has come good - it proves that old school non-iPad youth development still works and that lads like Bowman (not the world's greatest communicator) is just as good at developing talent as the ones with the tech and statistics.  I don't even care that we'll make some cash out of it.  The fact that the young man is reaching his goals is enough for me.

Also, criticism (done in the right way) is absolutely essential to development.  Not my job and never get involved in shouting at anyone in a match, but someone would have needed to deliver the truth.

That was just my thoughts at the time, just thought he looked really awkward and his touch on the ba was generally terrible.  He was only a boy at the time though, somebody had obviously seen something in him - but if you said that 5/6 years later he'd be getting talked up for a £20million move, jeezo.   All credit to him.

Re: Harry souttar

I remember a LC match @ Arbroath where i think we gubbed them on penalties where Souttar like has been said looked a very poor player.   Not a patch on what his brother was as a 16/17 yr old.

Re: Harry souttar

Souttar suffers a 'very serious' knee injury in Australia's latest international against Saudia Arabia.

Disastrous news.
