What team would you like to see on Saturday?
Online!
Benji/Carson
Smith Edwards mulgrew Mcmann
Fuchs butcher levitt
Pawlett mcnulty sporle
Offline
It's an interesting one because you can make the case for 3 CM's all playing. Butcher made a difference against Hearts. But other than playing with a diamond, it doesn't really allow the Clark and McNulty partnership to be included - which i think it will.
........Butcher
......Fuchs Levitt
........Pawlett
...Clark McNulty
Would mean Sporle dropping out which i think i'm ok with as it provides a different option off the subs bench to change if need be.

Here's hoping for a bit of good news tomorrow regarding Niskanen's work permit.
Will be 3 weeks tomorrow since he officially signed.

Fin for Morchrie, although I suspect it will be Pawlett

Can't see Niskanen starting either. He hasn't actually played a proper match in quite some time. Though has been training with us for a few weeks now, so his general fitness must be decent. Reckon we will have to be satisfied with a 2nd half cameo.
Might be best time to unleash him tbh.

Quietest i think this Forum has ever been after a game.
Get the feeling Utd fans are not quite sure what to make of the team at the moment.
On one hand we rarely lose and the results have by and large been ok, so far this season, including two very good wins versus Rangers and St.Johnstone.
But on the other hand we still rarely score or really look like putting a few past a team (any team).
Playing some okay stuff, at times. But look like we could play all night and not score.
So not much change at all really from last season's guff under Mellon. The main issue from last season i.e. our lack of goals, has simply not been addressed. And it will cost us.

Tried to get the game on St Mirren ppv but kept getting an English isp error message that wouldn’t allow me to watch it but by all accounts I didn’t miss much. Anybody that was there how did the Finnish winger play ?
Offline
I didn't think we played badly. Created probably the two best chances of the match. I think we get forward well but look for the perfect goal. No one willing to shoot from outside the box. Thought pawlett done well gets us 40 yards up the park. Defensive wise, pretty solid. Mulgrew and new Left back both played well. Still think a big centre is needed wont happened though

Can’t disagree too much but looking at this with a longer lens, our hands are tied financially at the minute so we can’t buy our way out of the problem. Having more strikers doesn’t guarantee goals. I would say the transition from having to have a back 5 in order not to concede to being able to look just as solid with a 4, whilst carrying more of a threat, deserves credit. We’re not scoring but we’re surely having more shots and probably a higher xG at this early stage (unsure though). I genuinely don’t know what a cohesive plan would be that sees us not concede, play well and score more goals with the same, or broadly similar players.
I would say the current staff deserve credit for the improvements we’ve seen and anything extra would be miraculous. I can see a way this team can develop into scoring goals. Couldn’t see that at all last year. A different sort of striker would be welcome for me but we’ve still not had a fully fit squad yet to fully judge

Finnish boy started well but tired second half. Think he will become a good signing

There is a slight improvement in terms of chances created. But if you have no one to put the ball in the back of the net, then we are undermining any progress we may be making in that regard.
We are undoubtedly not flush for money but to have sold Shankland for a few hundred thousand and not even attempt to replace him is a scandalous decision. Scandalous.
Surprised our supporters are so laid back about it tbqh.
I get the feeling they may not be after next weekend.

McNulty replaced Shankland, the problem is we didn't replace McNulty.

'Scandalous' for 8 of the 12 Prem teams who couldn't score a goal this weekend then?
And you're already shitting yourself for next Sunday, hope the players have more resolve.

Firstly, wind yer neck in a wee bit eh?. Bit of an unecessarily nippy reply.
Secondly, who said i was 'shitting' myself regards next weekend? I'm completely nonplussed about it at the moment. But i'm certainly not confident of us scoring or winning. But whatever will be will be.
Thirdly (and lastly), i couldn't care less about any of the other Premiership sides and their abilities (or lack thereof) at putting the ball in the back of the net. Only Dundee Utd's.
And we were the least proficient at this in the entire division last season. To have not addressed that in the entire Summer window is (in my opinion, and mine alone) a scandalous and costly decision.
But you do you.

only caught the second half live on saturday, but watched most of the first half back to see how the Finn got on as had read that he was more involved early on. encouraging debut - looked like can cross with either foot, which is a novelty for us and got himself involved. doesn't look like we're any weaker at lb with McMann. was hoping to see a lot more from mcnulty played as a 9, but looking very familiar at the moment... his attitude still irksome - he has a habit of making decent runs but then continuing to run even after clear that the ball isn't coming instead of turning and coming back into position. nothing really came off for him yesterday... maybe the derby will get him going. have been hoping that Freeman would get a shot at rb, but would have rathered it wasn't next week beside Connolly.

Apologies Founder.
I was making the point (rather bluntly sorry) that no team is banging in the goals so why accuse us alone of scandal?
But McNulty is a proven goalscorer don't forget and Sunday would be ideal for starting his tally.
And Appere got half an hour on Saturday & that is good news.

One of they games where you knew after McNulty glaring one on one miss that it was gonnae peter out tae 0 v 0, indeed Buddies could have snatched ill deserved point but for great save from Carson.
I'll say it again McNulty's a journeyman, and before I get the two games for Scotland comeback, that's no necessarily a great reference is it.
And as for Connolly, the man's a liability, don't know why he's even on the bus.
Hope Liam & Edwards get right soon, couple of our best.
Started the game at a million miles an hour, thought we'd blow them away.
Pawlett chalk and cheese this year. Harkes looking better too.
Great to see young Louis get a run hope he can be the front man we're craving.
McMann & Young Finn looked good.
Dominated up to McNulty miss. If you don't put your chances away ....
Sporle couldae been good subbie, never know quite what he's gonnae do.
Still believe we're gonnae see better than last year, more positive intent and selections.

Agree with most Shakey apart from McNulty's goals will start coming & Connolly is NOT a dud.
He has the misfortune to be our boo boy just now, we always need to have a boo boy.

McNulty has scored goals for bigger teams than United. He's played one season with us in a fairly dysfunctional team, mostly out of position and this season he's already played up front in 3 different formations with countless supporting players. The fascination to be the first ones to shoot him down and say he's shite is just baffling.
Although i'm assuming it's probably the same folk that were still calling Benji shite at the start of last season or those that said that Fuchs was over rated after his form dipped for about 2 or 3 weeks.
His record does show he's obviously a confidence player but one that if you get it right, can be very good. He had too much time to think about the chance on Saturday i think but we're ultimately the width of the post away from being level on points with Celtic and him being the hero this week.
