Lack of info regards injured players

This has been a real bug bear of mine for quite some time. Quite often our players just disappear from the 1st team squad for weeks on end and no-one is any the wiser to what their injury is or when they will return.

Currently we have three of our young attacking players (Louis Appere, Declan Glass and Archie Meekison) missing from the squad and i doubt most of the support even know what their injuries are let alone a timeframe for their return. We also have Mark Connolly longterm injured, and Adrian Sporle has literally just returned after weeks of inactivity.

Was the same last season when Logan Chalmers got injured. Was out for months and never any injury updates given. All this does is leads to speculation and rumour amongst a frustrated support. It's so easily fixed as well.

Teams i follow on Twitter, are transparent and open with their support and keep them up to date with squad injury news. Even big teams like Barcelona (see below).

In an age when Utd's social media output is so often criticised, this to my thinking, would be an easy thing to communicate to the fanbase if i were anything to do with Utd's SM content. It makes the support feel that they are kept in the loop and acknowledged. All any of us really want as we all live and breathe the club on the daily.

Sort it out Utd.

Tony runs the club.  We get to go along and support.  Don't get above your station young man.

Re: Lack of info regards injured players

Courts gave a brief update on DUTV pre match on injuries. It's been raised by DUSF recently.

Re: Lack of info regards injured players

Very scant info about a a bad head knock which hospitalised the player.
Never heard anymore about the injury, you'd be concerned about the poor lad, but the first & only report we got was that the Club had got rid of him. I hope he was ok.
Dillon Powers.
Tragic communications United, get it sorted.

Not everyone has or can afford DUTV.

My point is you shouldn't have to pay to get basic info about your club.

Re: Lack of info regards injured players

Off the top of my head the following are injured:

Connolly
Meekison
glass
Butcher
Chalmers
Appere

Anyone know how long each of them are out, I heard Connolly could be back training next week and Chalmers out for 12 weeks.  The others I’m not sure but think Appere was meant to be close to returning and hopefully Butcher was just that one game on Saturday.

United are not great at updating fans on injury situation!

Re: Lack of info regards injured players

Again, something like the below that Hibs issued over the weekend is all us supporters ask for i.e. a bit of transparency.👇

You've got a good point Snacks.
In the Club's defence though, the timescale can be indeterminate.
But a rough idea would do us.
Like Hibs & Doidge there, 'the rest of the year' is his lay-off.
Connolly was long term, we know that.
Chalmers a matter of 'weeks'.
But Louie Appere? He might have a sore finger or be out for the rest of the season as far as I can make out.
A sore finger would be good cos I think the season is open for him when he does get back, I've got high hopes for him.
So if a player is out injured the Club are afraid to say, 'he'll be ok for the Hearts game at the end of the month'.
Cos if he isn't there will be accusations over 'you said....'
But they could cover themselves by saying 'he'll be out for a few weeks yet' & that would probably do us.

So Tony, what's up with Louie??

Re: Lack of info regards injured players

Am i right in thinking the club confirmed last year that they were purposely opaque on this as they didn't want any advantage to our opponents to predict our line-up and set up accordingly? Might be wrong but recall something from one of the open forum nights.

That said, a brief indication at the beginning of the injury surely can't hurt

I think you're right. But even if they didn't, i'd like to think that they would keep their cards close to their chest, so I don't have a problem with the club staying quiet on injuries.

I recall a game at Pittodrie, maybe around 1985 - SAF was still in charge. Gough had been out injured and the Courier stated publicly he wouldn't be back for a few weeks. I got to Aberdeen pretty early and the gates weren't open yet so I wandered round to the main entrance. The United bus pulls up and Gough gets off on crutches. Team lines were handed to the ref an hour before kick off, which is the first time the managers learn what XI the opposition are putting out. And 15 minutes later, out comes Gough, fully fit, to start his warm up. Too late for Sir Alex, who had already set up his team to play a Goughless United and submitted it to the ref.

We won.

Hard to do that if the club are required to be 100% honest and transparent with the fans.

At the end of the day, if a player is fit then he'll be considered for selection. If he's not, he won't. I don't feel like I need to know who is available. Sure, I'd like to know, but me knowing doesn't benefit the team.

I get that logic for players with knocks and niggles that could make them a doubt for upcoming games. But it'd be nice to get updates on our long term injured players, don't think that's unreasonable. And FWIW this has been something that's predated Asghar, it's been the case for years.

Re: Lack of info regards injured players

I think someone alluded to it on here. Underlying physical conditions diagnosed thro training as a professional footballer. Twisted pelvis, hip disalignment, that sort of thing. Must be the curse of any professional sports person. Anyone think of an example?

I get that in regards if a player had taken a slight knock and was a doubt for the weekend. I certainly wouldn't expect the club to be issuing a statement to the support one way or the other to notify us all if the player was out or in.

I meant more players who were longterm injured like Glass or Connolly. One thing a bit of info would do regards these lads is to stop any speculation regarding their injuries or recovery etc. It would also provide the support with a bit of transparency and would be good communication/p.r. from the club.

Seems like a win/win to me.

Re: Lack of info regards injured players

Lewis Neilson supposedly at the game today wearing a boot and on crutches. Some injury list we have.

Connolly
Siegrist
Glass
Butcher
Harkes
Appere
Neilson

Would be good to get some clarity on all of the above.

Quite glad there’s an international break after Hearts game next week hopefully get a few back after that.  Pawlett will also miss next week of course (unless we successfully appeal)

Not sure he would miss Hearts game.

Straight red means you miss next game but a two yellow red card means you miss the game after the next. I think.

Hopefully we appeal. And win.

I always thought you couldn't appeal a double yellow, when did that change?

You can if it is for simulation.

Forgot all about they two.

have no idea what Meekison's injury even is or when he'll return to training.

This is what i'm talking about.

p.s. Courts has done very well to get results with that injury list.

2 yellows and you miss the next game in that competition (in this case the league, so game v Hearts)
Straight red and you miss the next game in any competition (plus the next game in that competition)

You may be right. I just have a recollection that a player misses the game 12 days (or something) after the suspension is issued and put up on the SFA website.

That’s when it’s an accumulation of bookings, they serve the suspension I think from 14 days after the booking that takes them past the limit
