I'm a bit MEH about his signing. But certainly hoping he can improve on his paltry goals return from last season, if played more as the main Striker. I do think he has ability.

Really feel we still need a different of forward in as well though. And hoping the club feel the same.

As it is we are still a centre forward down on last season.

Or we still have the same strikers roster as last term. Minus Shankland. We need another. And asap.

Also just read the BBC article and saw that wonderful cliche "once we get him up to speed" awesome 🙄

Indeed, welcome back.  Intelligent player, can read Tony's scripts - hope he's been given the book.

Yeah sorry I should have said that lol, it's more the general signing policy we have adopted that's finally wore me down. It's obvious now that if Shankland had stayed we'd have been signing no one and it does look like they have been spinning us a line.

If we are skint, just say so and don't leave the fans in the dark, it's no wonder we have all been at loggerheads. I've tried to stay positive throughout but they are making that more difficult by the day.

I'm still happy as fuck from our result last weekend but we still need to balance this squad and are a striker light and if we sign the Niskanen guy then we still require that creative midfield playmaker. If we get that I'll be happy to shut the fuck up 😁

Good post.

I think if we get another Striker, Niskanen and a CAM signed then even the most sceptical of Utd supporters would be happy (myself included).

Over and above that just replacing anyone else that departs (replacement for Jamie Robson if he departs, for example).

Re: Summer Transfer Window

A signing this week please.

And an update on the Finn ffs?

Re: Summer Transfer Window

I don’t think the Finnish boy will sign, keep getting told it’s close but he was on the bench for his team this afternoon.

I think we’ll sign 1 more before the deadline, 2 if Robson leaves and we need a left back.

Re: Summer Transfer Window

If we really have been tailing this boy since last summer, we can’t really blame Brexit / unforeseen work permit hold ups as an excuse.. ground work should’ve been done before this.

Did Kawashima train with us for weeks and just couldn't play until his work permit came through from the Home Office? Or did he only come over once the said document was obtained? I forget.

My point is. Is there anything stopping us just signing Niskanen. Getting him over here asap to adapt and train with the lads whilst waiting for his clearance?

Obvious question Tek. What happens if he doesn't get a work permit?

In Kawashima's case it would have been better if he hadn't been allowed to come!

Re: Summer Transfer Window

Would anyone take Guy Melamed or is he too similiar to our other Strikers? Took him awhile to find his shooting boots in Perth but once he started scoring he became a real threat upfront for them. Helping them win both cups obviously.

He turned down a new St.Johnstone deal due to interest in him from Sunderland and Ipswich. But it's never materialised and he is still without a club. Good age at 28.

Surely a better option up front than Clark?

From the players point of view, even if this was somehow possible, why would he come and train for free on the chance of maybe getting a real, rather than stay with his current club til it's sorted? Nothing in it for him or his current club. Plus insurance, visa issues etc.

So we’re having to wait on this boy because of work permit taking time because of brexit? So how did the Shankland deal go through so quickly? Surely it’s the same scenario unless somebody is gibbering pish.

Celtic seem to make a plethora of signings from abroad also with minimal fuss.

Re: Summer Transfer Window

I don't think you can compare the Shankland signing to the Niskanen one.  The EU immigration rules will be different to the UK immigration rules - they are not a mirror image.  That said, given Celtic seem to be able to get work permits within a couple of weeks the only difference has to be the competence of those seeking the permit.  The fact that he is still playing for Ingolstadt is also somewhat bizarre.  My guessing is that we have probably agreed a fee for the boy but work permit is not the only condition.  Perhaps Ingolstadt are wanting to secure a replacement before he goes.  I get the strong feeling that there is more to this than just a work permit.

Also think it is interesting that Scott Burns is mentioning Fuchs availability again.  As the official mouthpiece of big Tony it is pretty clear that Mr Ogren is expecting to see some cash raised this window.  Ditto Robson, basically making it clear he's gone if 'our valuation', whatever that is, is met.

I'm not so sure Ingolstadt are waiting to get a replacement in before releasing him Finn. Although the lad has been on their bench the last few weeks, he's barely came off the bench at all. Maybe they just don't actually rate him that much?

I've asked before but no-one answered my question (maybe because they don't know). Did Kawashima come over here and train for weeks whilst waiting for his work permit to be rubber-stamped or did he only come over once it had been? I do recall he played (against Dundee) literally the next day after it had been confirmed (to disastrous consequences).

I think he was here in advance but not sure he was training. I'd imagine (and could be wrong) that training would be part of his job

OK fair enough, but you can't sign him without the work permit being granted, the SFA wouldn't register him so he would essentially be a tourist. If he came over of his own accord he wouldn't be allowed to train, or do anything that could be construed as "work", so he'd potentially be hanging about for weeks with no guarantee of a permit being issued. He would also struggle to get past the UK Border officials if he was honest about his reasons for coming. If the work permit application was subsequently declined, he'd be in limbo.

In some ways its a bit similar to the nonsensical story a few months ago ago about us signing players from Brian Welsh's team in the USA. They might get a sporting visa to come over and play a few friendly matches and train with our youth team, but not in a million years are any of them getting a work permit to sign for United (unless they happen to have a UK passport).

Two completely different authorities, I.e. Belgium and UK. They will have totally different processes, and our Home Office aren't renowned for expediency.

Ross County had the Austrian lad over training with them before his work permit was issued. So was just wondering.
