Club shop

Before I write anything - this isn't a dig at the women in the club shop who I know do a lot of good work...

I'm an out of town arab - so took the chance to go into the clubshop while I travelled through dundee. Tried to check online as to what was for sale (I wanted a green training top). There's none of the new gear on the online store. It's been available to purchase for weeks.... surely that's business 101 for any retailer - maintain an online presence and offering.

(Note to add the shop was fully stocked when I went in - so not all bad)

Also there was a guy in looking to book hospo. I've no idea if it was 2 or 20 people but he was turned away and told to email somebody.... surely they could have got somebody across from tannadice to talk to the guy? I've no idea who it was but if he's willing to spend hundreds of pounds, you'd expect he would be treated well....not just turned away and told to email a random club email address.

Similarly, in during the pandemic, they were pumping out the picture of yourself at tannadice to 'be there'. Think I saw like 1 or 2 posts on Facebook about it - but this was a chance to make a lot of money - had they advertised more, I'm sure they could have got a lot more - I for one would have. This is maybe going away from the shop and onto communications but the club can't just expect people to buy stuff. They need to create a vibe, make us want to spend our cash. As a small example - at the rangers game, do a wee mini q and a with random fans...

Off the top of my head ' here's Jimmy junior coming to his first game of the season in his new united strip - just as Jimmy senior did with his dad back in 1994. #united together. Get your new strip/training top at the club shop or online - link here.

In 1 Post, you've involved some fans who will get a buzz about being on the fb/twitter/insta. Secondly, you've promoted a sense of togetherness with the # and 3rdly you've advertised the kit and posted a link to where to get it.

I'm not a marketing expert - but don't expect people to give their cash - make them want to give it to you

Re: Club shop

Not sure but think the green top was an emergency one for the squad to start training as there had been a delay in the proper ones, the green kit then got such a positive response that they are now ordering it in....could be wrong....
For what its worth that mint green top with black trim would make an outstanding away strip imo...

Re: Club shop

I'm up for the Hearts game, was hoping to be able to order my home shirt by now but looks like I'll have to pick one up on the day as nothing online yet.

I'd say the shop is well stocked but it would be nice to order online especially if you were wanting printing (probably easier for the ladies in the shop too if it can be done at a quiet moment). C'mon united. Its 2021

Re: Club shop

Apparently the new online store goes live sometime this month, its been a similar story in previous years as well. Not sure why it can't go live to coincide with the release of the new kits. There is obviously some reasoning behind it, but I've never understood it.

Re: Club shop

Doubt if the Club are doing a homer, so they'll be a 3rd party contractor involved. That would involve scheduling, implementation and testing.

No doubt some upgrade to current hardware, or a new platform altogether. New Software Installation. All takes time, many weeks or months in some cases. Acceptance testing alone can take weeks.

Been in involved in major IT projects for 40 years, I know that the Covid has delayed many projects for months.
(having Engineers/ Programmers onsite etc.).

The IT Contractor will also have agreed contracts with other businesses also, which all has to be scheduled. Bring Covid into the equation, and you'll see what I mean.

Agree it's disappointing, but in the bigger picture . . . .

Re: Club shop

Re: Club shop

Just reading this thread for the first time so just want to say well done Tangy for the opening post, you make some very good points & observations.
The rest of the thread is full of 'when can I get my green strip?' and hijacks the opening post.

And Tangy's right, the whole operation, online or instore, needs a good kick up the 4rse.

Re: Club shop

A browse of the Clubs online shop looks like exactly what it should be - so well done for that. Guess they just need to keep it up to date. (Don't they offer the league sponsors badges? Or is that on hold with the tributes doing their best to screw up the deal?)

I thought they did well to confuse the general public though... folk don't need to read e-commerce, platforms etc  - all they want is a link to the shop....which was hidden at the bottom of the post (way below the link to the company who made the site)

Next up club advertising🤣

Re: Club shop

Haven’t looked yet but hoping their shipping costs are now at a reasonable rate. I used to have to get someone to buy a top from the shop then send it over here as United were asking about 10 times the cost of what your standard post office were asking. (Edit)- just had a look and it'll no matter about shipping costs as the details page won't accept a Japanese post code. Braw stuff.

Re: Club shop

I had the same experience with overseas postal charges in the past, used to get my sister who lives in the ferry to buy things at shop then go to post office for cheaper postage.

I did an order today and the postal charge was roughly the same as the post office

Good to know. I'll try again later.

Re: Club shop

Just ordered the green training top.... got to give praise to the club for eventually getting an online shop that works. The minimum I'd expect is easy to use, updated with sizes and easy to pay...it does all these things hopefully they keep it up and it's ready at peak times....

...note to say I've also been critical of the timing of launches etc and selling the green top before Derby day will surely see more than usual sales 👍👏
