Re: Courts in the press

Hate to go on about him but I really wish he would not do pressers (I know they have to but still).

A few clips

'The United coach admitted: “The first thing they’ll be expecting us to do is go make a game of it and get on the front foot and to actually put ourselves forward as the key protagonist at home.' - so we are attacking the league champions... the same way we did aberdeen?

The stats will probably tell you that although in Covid times I think it was almost a 50/50 split where the home team didn’t have the same advantage that you’d have with fans there. - tam was the stats man - he SHOULD know rather than making up stats.

He claimed: “I think last year we had a primary approach to each game which was just to cause as much chaos as possible and try to capitalise in certain moments that presented themselves within that chaos - to me, its poor form slagging off the last manager, no matter how good or bad he was.....(the irony is the approach was taken on the back of the info tam gave him).

He doesn't help himself at all.  Just do your job, be reasonably honest without throwing others under the bus and win some games(against Premier oppositon).... at the minute (to me) he sounds like he's quoting out of a coaching manual

He claimed: “I think last year we had a primary approach to each game which was just to cause as much chaos as possible and try to capitalise in certain moments that presented themselves within that chaos.

“Whereas I think now, what we’re trying to do now is we’re actually trying to create an identity to our play and style which actually allows us to perform by design.“It makes it easier for young players to come into the team as now.”

Does anybody know what the fuck he is actually on about?

Re: Courts in the press

I think some of the quotes are a lack of experience but he’s not getting a fair crack of the whip by fans where every word and sentence is analysed against a backdrop of ‘he doesn’t know what he’s doing’.

The last part is presumably him commenting on the overall approach without giving away our specific tactics. I’d read that to mean last year we wanted to win the ball back then hoof it long to 3 smaller, slower strikers and hope for the best. This year, we want to have a more defined approach and work on patterns of play and positioning I.e. if you’re team mate is here then you should be there or there.

Re: Courts in the press

I get that fans are going to get on his back and it's probably not helpful but equally, don't just open your mouth and let your belly rumble.

Re: Courts in the press

Ist a strange position some fans have got themselves in here
Ripping into everything the UTD coach says.
Normally I would have thought that sort of anger and scrutiny would be kept for the opposition.
Maybe time to take a step back a.deep breadth and reflect on whether any of this will help your club.

Re: Courts in the press

The guy does seem to be on a hiding to nothing with our support. If he proves not up to the job he'll be shifted same as most of the other dross we have had to endure over the years, but most of them got at least a chance to show what they can do, Courts is not being even afforded that......

Re: Courts in the press

I like all people on this site want the team to do well and am happy for Courts to be that person who takes us there.

However there is a sense of naivety i feel when dealing with the press.  Having just read the BBC article and the section at the end is where in my opinion he lets himself down and opens the team up for scrutiny.

"but very quickly this team will be high-energy, brave, with young players getting an opportunity and the fans will be able to relate to it.

"It's going to be bumpy at times but this is a group who did okay in the league last year and we want to improve vastly. It will take a few weeks to get up to speed and once we do, we'll see a lot of growth in this team.""

A more experienced manager may have said a more sanitised version stating we have a game plan we want to implement and that will become clear to the fans.

By going into the detail he has opened himself and the team to scrutiny if what he says does not come to fruition and soon, the press will make the most of that.  For me there is no visible difference to how we are playing this season to how we played last season, and that includes the cup games.

It's pretty normal for managers to get criticism for not really saying anything in interviews. You can see why when someone has a crack at being open about what he is thinking and it comes across like this.

I think it is made worse by the void caused by covd though, so hopefully in a few weeks we can be focusing mainly on what is happening on the field again.

Re: Courts in the press

I'm not really sure what he is trying to achieve by all the press attention.  I've always been an action speaks louder than words believer.  TC seems to like the sound of his own voice though (which is, in itself a big call, given how grating it is).

Personally I think he should have tried to keep out of the press the week before a potential mauling by The Rangers.  That way if we surprise ourselves and don't get totally battered by them then there might be  a little more weight to the message.  If we do get horsed there is a little bit less focus on him, which would have been wise.
