Re: Aberdeen v Utd - 1/8/21

I tried to do an XI, but the lack of balance is scary.

Totally forgot about him in my attempts to think of a 442 that could work.

Don't know why i even bothered, as we all know it will be the 532.

Dinna ken if anybody else on here has watched Aiberdeen in their last 2 Europa gehms, but I have to say they looked pretty decent.

Re: Aberdeen v Utd - 1/8/21

They could have a game like they did in the first leg against Hacken or we could have a game like we did last time up there. Also ala first day of 14/15 (?) season where we were unfancied but again won 3-0.

I’d take a battling point if offered now even if it does mean reading “just more of the same from last year” posts. The squad isn’t built to do much else.

Re: Aberdeen v Utd - 1/8/21

New manager, first game of the season  vs Aberdeen. I'm going for 1-1.

I was at Golacs first game in charge all those years back vs the Sheep on the opening day, oh to have them 11 players playing this Sunday.

5 at the back, pack the midfield, win our individual battles and try and steal a goal.

Re: Aberdeen v Utd - 1/8/21

They were expected to beat us every game last season, that went fucking well for them 🤣

Fuck the sheep shagging bastards, 2-0 United  SHED RULE!

Robson not expected to play as he’s being lined up for a transfer to Lincoln, hopefully Sporle is fit

He was certainly pictured training this week. Risky to throw him in though, given he's had no pre-season.

Reckon young Duffy will get the shout and we might see Spörle second half.

If Robson is out the door we better sign a LB, and fast.

With us having Duffy, Sporle, Mulgrew and Reynolds, and apparently favouring the wing back role, would we sign another left back?

Well, we should.

We can't just be totally rigid to one formation. What happens if playing the wing backs totally bombs after 3 or 4 games? He'd change it, is what.

Re: Aberdeen v Utd - 1/8/21

Great opportunity to bring in a left wing back that enjoys going forward if it happens. Robson has shown on a handful of occasions (in 5 years) the difference attacking presence from this position makes in this system - transformational.

Jamie not a bad LB. has a bit of pace, decent at tackling, has a nasty streak. Far too many poor games where positionally he is poor and attacking wise he’s wasteful though.

Think Duffy will start in keeping with our new approach.

Offers us more of a goal threat at least (which we sorely lack).

Re: Aberdeen v Utd - 1/8/21

I stand corrected. We've had 1 in the 1st 45.

Nothing for it but to gouge on the missus chocolates.

Re: Aberdeen v Utd - 1/8/21

Don't know where to start with that performance.  All over the place, zero attacking threat and when we were 2-0 down it looked like the players felt like they were 5-0 down.  Taking Shankland off and putting Pawlette up front - WTF?

Re: Aberdeen v Utd - 1/8/21

Performance was even worse than I expected

Dread to think what the huns will do to us next week

With this current squad we will finish bottom.

Re: Aberdeen v Utd - 1/8/21

Not a great start to the league campaign and 10 times tougher next week.

Aberdeen were in cruising mode with us camped in our own half (last 1/3rd?).

It was only once they got their second that they let us out and even then we did very little with it.

Far too early to make big sweeping statements....but last season I remember we started off trying a heap of kids which didn't really work, so we become a massively compact team and sat in, hoping to not lose and nick a goal to take the odd win.

.meanwhile the fans wanted to poke their eyes out rather than watch it.

This season so far, we've tried a bunch of kids and resorted to the same football... the only noticeable difference is mulgrews out ball is marginally better than connollys.

Fighting performance required against sevco. Heart desire and a sprinkling of skill will help to ease fans worries?

If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.

Re: Aberdeen v Utd - 1/8/21

A performance nothing short of alarming.

Even more alarming is Courts post match claiming we edged the first half and should have been at least level. That we went up thru the gears second half and hemmed them in.

Boys on the glue.
