Re: Courts in the press

As I say I hope I'm wrong.

Edit what I said about end of silly season.
We can't wait until Aug 31st by which time we'll have played Aiberdeen, Huns, Saintees, Hearts.

Something needs to happen sooner than that.

Re: Courts in the press

The sooner the league season starts the better as it appears  some fans have are losing a sense of reality.
TC wins 4/4:in the group stages but we are really worried, we are doomed, certs to go down TA has to go ect...
Our last 3 managers by this stage had lost at home to Peterhead, East Fife, East Fife& Arbroath.
Granted it hasn't been pretty to watch but what would be the supporter reaction if TC has followed the modern UTD way and lost to lower league opposition at home?

Why do you feel the need to be so dismissive of people who simply prefer a positive outlook instead of all the doom and gloom? Fuck sake can folk not just look forward to the next chapter of Dundee United's fortunes without being told they have their head in the sand?

What actual good does all the mumping and moaning achieve? Diddly squat!

Re: Courts in the press

There is no doubt that we want and need more quality, but we have to be realistic in what we can attract and afford. It feels that some people cannot wait for Courts to fail and jump on the "I told you so bandwagon" ASAP.....as said above played 4 won 4, way ahead of the stats our previous two managers had, of which some are pining that we had kept.....

I think there is something in this.  I'm hoping that the wins mean that we are at least better prepared for the start of the season, but I am not really sure that we can take anything from beating a bunch of part timers especially just beating them and no more.  In some ways I was  OK with them being treated as pre-season (especially last year when Covid meant far fewer alternative pre-season games) although getting knocked out was ridiculous. Aberdeen beating a decent Swedish team who are already well into their season gives me the fear.  The opener was one of the first few that I had some confidence of taking something from - that changed last night.

Suspect I am naturally more cautious, that way the disappointments hurt a little bit less.  Personally, I can't see how people cannot see that our club is being led down the wrong path by someone who is a complete charlatan.  I just can't understand blind faith.  Say I'm right and Asghar does end us, do we just don the dark blue and continue?

I'll be delighted for the guy if he keeps us up and improves us.  He seems like a decent enough guy and as a United manager he'll always have my support.  I hope he outlasts Asghar by years and years.

But the club has been on an upward trajectory since Asghar has been employed. So why are you convinced he's going to end us, it's extremely dramatic to suggest that tbh. This wrong path is all hypothetical, our promotion and first season back did actually happen.

Re: Courts in the press

My worries (I'm usually fairly positive) are...

1) We've a manager who's highest level of experience is the lowland league.
2) Our squad, which most agree, needed extra bodies last year, is now smaller than it was last year.
3) Courts is happy that our best players are being linked with mid level English teams for relative pennies.
4) there's a load of chat and buzzwords being spat out about projects/5 year plans - but I don't support 5 year plans - I support dundee united. I'm not daft enough to think its not happening and the club has to run to make a profit but it feels like there's no passion in the club.

Courts is a massive massive gamble. I hope it pays off. There will be nobody happier than me but so far there's little to get excited about. Yes we are 4 from 4 but that was 2 wins against league 2 teams, 1 league 1 team and a win v a championship team. I guess you can only beat who is in front of you but equally the results don't fill me with hope.... (would we have beaten Arbroath without the once in a lifetime goal from Mulgrew? Maybe)

Give us something to get excited about. 1 week away and we play the 3rd best team in the country over the last decade....we need to be ready

As I said previously, with the money Ogren has put in where we are now is the absolute minimum of where we should be.  We should have been up a season earlier too.  That money has now clearly dried up and the focus is breeding to sell to get Ogren his (Asghar) promised return.  The Asghar project is now a massive gamble.   I just can't believe you can't see that - it's not dramatic - it's staring you in the face if you care to look.

My hope is that the Ogren's realise a change in direction is required before their cash and/or interest dry up.  I personally don't have a line into them so hope that they do read ocassionally what the fans think and maybe, just maybe, that puts a doubt in their heads.  I appreciate that may be a forlorn hope but that makes more sense to me than a non-questioning acceptance that everything in the garden is rosy.

I also do retain the fanciful hope that Asghar is a genius and that it is me who just can't see this as that will ultimately be the best for the club given where we are now.  It's just that everything points at him not having that status, despite him clearly thinking he does.

So Mark Ogren must be a halfwit then, or a gullible fool? I think he's neither and some of our fans are bordering on the suicidal with their pessimism

Re: Courts in the press

I don't see this as a gamble or Ogrens business plan. It is possibly the only way forward for the club to take as it is not sustainable for a club in our position to keep moving forward whilst losing money I think it's as simple as that. We all know if we have success on the pitch that will lead to more fans, more TV appearances etc then more money coming in but how do we get there?
We could buy some creative players/wingers but I'm sure if it was that easy we would have done it by now ( I have never seen any names banded around who is the type we want that are available and could walk into our team and make a difference ).

Far from suicidal mate!  Mr Ogren has invested in Scottish football thinking he'll get a return - that probably tells you all you need to know.  Grateful though we are, of course.

Re: Courts in the press

I see having Beith is gone from the women's team too. Think we are going through a round of cost cutting? Old school maybe expensive.....New boys in for pennies? The question would then need to be asked are we getting an equivalent or better service for less money....

I guess like most arguments both sides will never be talked round but at least we know that we all want whats best for the club.

How many sticks do you need to beat a club?

I heard the tea lady is away as well. Tony's mother-in-law's coming in.

Re: Courts in the press

It's not really beating the club with a stick to point out that perhaps we are seeing big changes in the backroom staff as a result of cost cutting. I dont know caigs ability or anybody else's- but I do want united to have an equally good replacement if not better.

Thats being a fan - wanting the best for the club

Re: Courts in the press

I think cost cutting is inevitable given the current financial climate and the likelihood that gates are going to be limited for some time yet.  Given we seem to have the fattest backroom team in the history of Scottish football (outside the old firm) I'm not too despondent about that.  It has proved inevitable that some of Ogren's money has been frittered away by covid related costs but we really should have been trimming the back room numbers for some time (we only replaced Courts a couple of weeks ago - was that really necessary?)  It just makes the stakes on Big Tony's gamble even higher with less in reserve if it all goes Pete Tong.

Re: Courts in the press

I pay Asghar's wages, or at least I did according to my last bank statement.
I want results from him.
To come up with all the Covid, money etc extenuating circumstances (Budgie costs) doesn't cut it.
We should be top six minimum.
Or are we happy to go into the  season accepting it's OK to be behind the two Saints, Livi and the Budgies ?
I'm not.

On the plus side I do see Academy laddies coming in looking great, especially Logan Chalmers and we're only a couple of signings off being the finished article.

Pull finger Tony.

Tick tock.

We should be top 6......but we are in our 2nd year back after 4 years in the fckn championship. The 1st year back was the biggest shit show ever in terms of normal service....I'm willing to cut some slack here.....
