Re: Summer Transfer Window

Courts said on the radio we “were close on a couple of fronts and will hopefully see traction next week” or words to that effect.

Vague, but encouraging I suppose.

Re: Summer Transfer Window

New deal for Chalmers until 2024. Was in his last year. Good news!

How far do you think he can go?

Big season for him coming up.

21 years old now, so not really a kid anymore. Definitely has skill and something about him. But needs to add goals and more of an 'end product' to his game.

Agree Tek. Obviously he now has time on his side but in terms of fulfilling his potential you'd hope to see him contributing more often this season and being an important player for us. By the time he leaves Utd I want him to have been our 'star man' for a good couple of years.

Re: Summer Transfer Window

The fact he's comfortable out wide, has a bit of a pace and can run at people means he should be in our starting XI each week as he offers weapons we otherwise don't have. Whether he is or not really depends on how effective he is.

If he can add end product then i foresee a decent transfer for him in his future. If he plays relatively well and causes hassle out wide for the other team without individually contributing that much, he'll play 25-30 games a year and move on when we find a better option ala Paul McMullan.

Still early days mate. Like I said he needs a full season under his belt. Might be a slow burner that ends up being a really big player for us. Has been around the first team since Ray was here so he is one of our longest serving first team players really.

My gut feeling is he might never make it to 'the top' but if he bulks up he could make a very good career for himself at a pretty good level.

Re: Summer Transfer Window

Couple things-

no Jamie Robson in the squad tonight and no word of any injury- is he perhaps on the brink of a transfer out?

Also, Kai Fotheringham supposed to be joining Raith on loan but I think an injury may be holding that one up.

Very quiet regards Adrian Sporle too.

He was supposedly only out for a couple of weeks. This was 4 weeks ago. Where is he?

Re: Summer Transfer Window

He was standing with Connolly, Fuchs and Appere watching the warm-up on Saturday. Agree though, the lack of information on how long he will be out for and even what the injury is, is so frustrating.

Sporle is our best left wing back. By a mile. Hope he is back soon.

Re: Summer Transfer Window

Injury updates from United are hopeless

That’s another day gone with no new players, Courts said he expected 1 or 2 this week, you got 48 hours…

Re: Summer Transfer Window

I’m fully expecting one signing by the end of the week and then after that, probably deadline day. Usual.

Re: Summer Transfer Window

Tam said 20 days ago, “The thing I take confidence from this approach is that you might not always get the player you want but you will get the player you need,”  I'm assuming Tam thinks we don't need any players then?  Or was he just talking shite?

In the statement the other day, he said he was giving time to the youngsters to prove their worth.....if only we had a bit of continuity with the new manager - maybe if he had worked with them before..... oh aye - he's been working with them for the last year and doesn't know if they can hack it at this level or not. Ideal tam, ideal.

Does what he's told.  Above his pay grade to check if Mr Asghar's e-mailed instructions have any continuity errors.  To be fair, Mellon never played them so how would he know?  After all it's not as if anyone who has trained them has ever played at that level...

Re: Summer Transfer Window

Well big tam has been working with the u18s and mellon did try them all out at the start of the season and deemed them not of the sufficient standard... at that time.

He might have been working with them for the last year, but how on earth can he know if they can hack it at this level until he tries them at this level? It's not exactly rocket science is it?

Is the job of the Academy coach not to make sure that they are ready for the level and that they get promoted to the first team when they are?  Of course there is always a question of will the cut it when they get there, but the Academy are supposed to be ensuring that those that make the grade do cut it.  That's the point!  The undercurrent of the comments are 'how would these guys know as none of them have themselves played or indeed been involved at that level'. If our Academy guys don't know what a 1st team regular looks like, what exactly are they training them for.  Get your head back down that hole where it belongs...
