We could have sent him back to Man City last September tbqhwy. Never kicked a ball thereafter.

Maybe a wee lesson for us all that signing guys on loan is just halting the progress of a youth player.

Would have played Chalmers, Appere or Meekison ahead of Bolton this season. Or particularly (for me) the player we daren't mention anymore (McMullan).

Bolton is away already. He's tagging himself on insta in a Manchester restaurant

Ahh right.

Don't do insta Tangy.👍

Someone posted that rumour  in a whatsapp group I’m in, but probably just read it on east football!!

Said rumour is that he’s going back to Tranmere Rovers!

Not so sure about unfortunately. You fancy Asghar's son as Manager?

Re: Summer Transfer Window

My opinion of Mellon so far is a high pass mark, kept us up with arguably the worst build up to a new season any manager has had to face, with the added bonus of the semi-final. Having said that I expect to kick on for next season.....He's earned his chance to move us forward in my opinion.....

So you'd prefer another summer of uncertainty? Absolute nonsense people wishing Mellon away, give the man a chance. He's already done more than most people were hoping for at the start of the season, I cannot understand some folks mentality at all.

George Graham's Arsenal were boring but they won more than the current day Arsenal, I'd love a boring cup win next season 😉

Re: Summer Transfer Window

Strongly hope Mellon stays.

IN: 2 very pacey Wingers,
       a 'number 10',
       a GK (possibly 2)
       Target Man

Out: Appere, Meekison, Graham, Glass (All
        Loans till January)
        Siegrist, Deniz, Freeman, McNulty,
        Harkes, Powers, McMullan.

Harkes probably unlikely since Mellon apparently loves him.

Yeah - I've been impressed with his ability to change approach through the season and managed us through to a fairly stress-free end of season. Hopefully, we can improve in key areas and kick on next season.

Re: Summer Transfer Window

This season has been nothing short of brutal, it's hard to remember just how brutal & thinking back over it is painful.
The absolute pits.
Our manager will never have seen a season like it.
Give him another 12 months.
Then sack him.
Only kidding, give him two years to make us like the real Dundee United.

Re: Summer Transfer Window

Apparently there was a meeting at St Andrews this morning that everyone assumed was some kind of meeting to announce Mellon was away. Turned out it was an end of season de-brief that was planned weeks ago.

I'm glad to hear he is not leaving (I guess that might still change) as I think he's done his job this season with the limited resources he had. I still say he has been dealt the worst ever hand of a United manager in my time watching the club.

Re: Summer Transfer Window

Hope he stays. If he goes, go today and not in August when some League 2 side in England decide that they're keen after all. Need a good run up to next season after last years calamity. No doubt Mellon and Co have learned a lot, be a shame to waste it.

So it's an open and honest conversation ASAP required. Here's the budget, here's the expectation - is it going to work for all parties?

Regarding players on the topic of transfer window - For the first time this season, i think Shankland might stay now. Don't think our valuation will be met by what prospective buys would be keen to pay for him as there will be less suitors because of form and less money generally because of Covid. He seems a patient guy as well and might think, one more crack at the top flight, do better than last year, then name my salary on a free transfer to a better club next summer.

Re: Summer Transfer Window

Agree re Shankland. I don't think it can be taken as read that we'll just accept any kind of 6 figure sum for him. I've seen some saying 350k would get him? I'd be massively disappointed if we sold him for anything under double that. He is surely worth more being here at the club (as long as we give him service).

My only fear is he goes on to sign for Hearts/Hibs/Aberdeen for a free and then terrorises us for a few years. Wouldn't fancy that at all.

Seems to have become a forgetten man tbh, sent him to Peterhead when we only had very young Lewis Neilson as a backup RB. Assuming Neilson, Graham, Smith and Cooney all remain at United I don't see where Freeman fits.

Yeah. Not so sure that will be the outcome though. He played 90 mins every week for Peterhead and got rave reviews. I think they let him go on Loan because at his age (20) he'd still not played first team football regularly from being down South. The fact we had Neilson and Bolton still here made it possible. By all accounts this loan move has been great for him and he'll be coming back in the summer a much better player. He also played all across the back 4 as well as holding midfield during his time up there. In terms of comparisons to others, I reckon come pre-season he'll be considered first choice backup to Liam Smith for the RB slot and also a serious option for backup LB if Robson is out. He appears to have all the attributes to be a decent player for us. I also thought he looked alright in his couple of appearances for us this season.
