Utd v 'Well - Wed 12/5/21 (6PM)

Only the 2nd match of the season i won't have seen live. Again down to the stupid 6PM kick off time (please tell me they will be gone next season?).

This match and the final game of the season away to St.Mirren on Saturday definitely have a 'dead rubber', 'end of season' feel about them.

But the prize money last season was -
9th - £1,310,000
7th - £1,430,000

So winning on Wed and Sat and finishing 7th and not 9th could be worth an extra £120,000 in revenue to the club.

The equivalent of us selling another 400 season tickets in the ETL. Enough money to perhaps get us another signing in the Summer.

So quite important these two games when you look at it that way.

What team and formation would you play?

Re: Utd v 'Well - Wed 12/5/21 (6PM)

Heard Mellon's interview after the game on Saturday and he said something along the lines of players 'needing a game' so really it is anyones guess.

For me, I'd go with:

Deniz
Smith Edwards Connolly Sporle
Chalmers Butcher Fuchs Meekison
Shankland Appere

Re: Utd v 'Well - Wed 12/5/21 (6PM)

Mellon suggesting in an article posted on another thread that he'll be giving players a chance to show what they can do who maybe havent had that chance.

So off the top of my head I'm thinking:

Connolly
Appere
Chalmers
K Smith (was mentioned specifically)
maybe Meekison?

Edit to add: Connolly has obviously had a chance to show what he can do this season, but has spent a while on the sidelines so could be 'due a game' going by what MM has said.

What's up with the bookies not rating us?
We're 2/1 tonite & Motherwell 6/4.
They think we're not very good.

...and as usual they're never wrong!

Since Graham Alexander took over at Fir Park they amassed the second highest points total in the Premiership. Only just behind the Rangers.

Meanwhile we've lost our last two, without scoring.

Bookies odds seem about right.

Yeah, guess you're right Tek, I wasn't looking at the most recent form.
Won't stop me putting my fiver on us!

Appere & Sporle for Shankland & Clark?
Is Shankland injured?

Still early doors but what a difference. We look like a team going forward instead of there being a huge gap between midfield and strikers.

Great build up play by charmers for the opener

So, so disappointing to throw away the 3 points there.

That'll be 7th place gone now, i'd imagine.

Good to see the youngsters showing up well though. Meekison's goal was excellent and Kerr Smith looks a proper player.

Also think Chalmers and Appere could be big players for us next season if given the game time.

Kerr Smith probably only has one game left for the club anyway though

If Motherwell lose and we win we would be seventh.

Re: Utd v 'Well - Wed 12/5/21 (6PM)

Absolutely seek we never got the 3 points. We practically had them in the bag, but threw the win away.

Twa brah goals fae Shanks and Meekison tho, nae doubt about that.

Shanks penalty miss was a but of a shocker, but the goalie went the right way, and in my humble opinion, I think he woulda got it,  if it had been on target.

We were in 7th whilst in the lead, but dropping 2 points has also dropped us 2 places to 9th. What's that somebody was saying the other day -  120 grand difference?

MOTM for me Chalmers. Just a peety that he had injury problems earlier in the Season - he should be on every gehm.

Re: Utd v 'Well - Wed 12/5/21 (6PM)

Not getting 7th does have its downfalls with money etc but its clear the club was happy for that to be risked in place of giving some youngsters proper exposure to the first team. Not overly fussed about where we end up but that was a sore one last night with the late equaliser. Never a foul either, awful decision from the ref.

Re: Utd v 'Well - Wed 12/5/21 (6PM)

Also Ross County will be going all out to not lose against Well on Sunday so we are still well in with a shout of finishing 7th I reckon.

Re: Utd v 'Well - Wed 12/5/21 (6PM)

I've always like Butchers commitment to a tackle but are we a better team without him? Lost count of the number of times we've had tye ball in defence and there's no out ball, so connolly, edwards or Reynolds are forced into launching it forward to strikers who aren't target men. Last night in the first half we were building through midfield, we had the overlap out wide and all things considered were doing quite well with a v inexperienced midfield/front line.
