Good point. How many places did we drop during that winless run? One.

True GC2, 4 points out of 24 & there was no shifting us til the very end of the 'run' when we finally went from 6th to 7th.
4 points out of 24, you'd think we'd be plumetting from 6th to 11th.
The thing is, the best the clubs below us were getting was the occaional point for the occasional draw.
But these single solitary points just don't shift you.
I've often come out of Tannadice after a win saying 'that's 3 draws we got today'.

So I'll tell you where I am on this....

3 points for a win was brought in here in 1994 to encourage more attractive, more attacking football. It didn't. The posttive incentive was outgunned by the negative incentive. Teams would rather deprive their opponents of an extra 2 points than try to gain 2 extra points for themselves, it's the way of the world.

But here's the rub. Htf can some games be worth 3 points and some worth only 2 points? Fixtures must surely be equal merit .How can you have a league where each fixture isn't worth the same number of points for goodness sake?

The solution? Revert back to 2 points for a win, 1 point for a draw where every fixture is worth two points, same as the old days? No. Not rewarding enough & long time dated. 4 points for a win, 2 pts for a draw where every fixture has four points at stake? No no, over rewarding, totals would be too large, too big a disparity between a win & a draw, same as it is now actually. The answer is.... stay with THREE POINTS FOR A WIN, we've got used to it now. BUT....and this isn't gonna go down well, I'm afraid there's a decimal point involved, ONE POINT FIVE POINTS FOR A DRAW. EVERY fixture starts with the same number of points to play for, THREE POINTS.

There, you saw it first on Tek. But still my prime objective is to TIME THE BALL IN PLAY in association football & FIFA are running out of time before I burn down their HQ. Calling them dinosaurs is doing dnosaurs a big disservice.

Not understanding your fourth paragraph at all, perhaps it's just me but what are you on about with the 3 points 2 points thing? Finding the whole post very confusing tbh

Well in a nutshell, three points for a win & 1 point for a draw ain't right. A draw should get you HALF the points, not ONE THIRD. It's not right. So I'm flying off to Zurich when it's permissable to lobby for 1.5 (one and a half) points for a draw. One point for a draw is sh!te.

Re: 6 games until the split

3 of the current bottom 4 have brand new managers.
Get the feeling that two of them are going to be very disappointed despite this last throw of the dice. One of them definitely.
Tho I think the position of the play-off team might be secure, this season I can't see 2nd to Hearts beating 11th in the Prem.

I think this too. Dundee/Dunfermline/Raith whoever it might be, in my eyes, wont have enough to beat one of Killie/Hamilton/County

Re: 6 games until the split

I wouldn't rule it out. If it's the Dunfermline team that played Hearts on the Friday night game, they'd give any of them a go. and unfortunately, in a tight game, Charlie Adam could well provide a crucial difference maker against the likes of a Hamilton who have no real experience.

Agree with this. All the more reason to avoid the bottom 2 places.

Re: 6 games until the split

Jim Goodwin saying before kick-off tonite that they're looking for 41 points to finiah 6th.
We could do that?

I'd like us to but think it's probably beyond us, doesn't mean they will get 41 points either though.

Re: 6 games until the split

As a side-note, how fucking overrated is Jim Goodwin btw? Up there with Jack Ross as someone who the media thinks is some kind of tactical genius. Baffling.

Re: 6 games until the split

Is anyone quietly confident of getting a result on Sunday?

If someone had said that two weeks ago would have thought they were off their head, but I’ve got a feeling about Sunday

I think now is a good time to play them and somebody has to beat them at home and it may as well be us

Re: 6 games until the split

We’ll be lucky to get a point. Don’t think we’ll get even that.

I'd love to be confident but sadly not. Still hoping we can at least match them for fight and desire and see where it takes us though 👍

William Hill not confident.
18/1.

Re: 6 games until the split

The St Mirren/Hamilton result is probably a good one for us.

Yes it puts St Mirren ahead of us but it also keeps Hamilton far enough away. They go to Easter Rd on Saturday and St Mirren have Livi at home. Hoping for a Hibs and Livi win.

A Celtic and Aberdeen victory would be useful too.

0-2, 40 minutes.
McMullan/Sow/Cummings upfront so plenty time for Dees to hit back.

Re: 6 games until the split

Great results all round (unless I've cocked up arithmetic.)
- Worst we can do is 10th

- Fun to 5th
- Lichties on the up

Tight at the bottom,  love to see Haccies go straight down obviously + Killie in playoffs cos I dinnae relish playing any Tommy Wright team whereas Dingwall a happy hunting ground, but fear for them.

How are you working that out? Doesn't sound right mate

Re: 6 games until the split

Today’s results did go our way, you would like to think that Celtic will take care of County tomorrow and that means none of the bottom four will reduce the gap between them and us.

Next week against Killie is one of them games for them where they will feel they need to beat us, I can see us taking three points next week but a point would be no disaster.
