First home game of 2021 this Saturday and a Tayside derby against St Johnstone who haven't had a league win since the 6th of November!
There is a 30 minute special tribute to Jim McLean prior to the game on DUTV.
I would like to see Powers start this game,

Feels like a big couple of games coming up. They will go 3 at the back and I get the feeling we will too.
If we do I'd go for:
Benji
Neilson
Connolly
Reynolds
Smith
Powers
Harkes
Robson
Clark
Appere
Shankland
I would rather see us go a 442. But I dont think we will.

McNulty and Chalmers back in training. Chalmers still a few weeks away though it would seem.
Online!
Butcher still out and Pawlett suspended. No word on Edwards and its almost certain that McMullan wont get any more game time for us.

Is there any particular reason for these new shitty midweek kick off times?
I know there is no fans there, but is any consideration made for the fact that most fans work till at least 5.30pm and and have to commute home from work thereafter? Me, myself i work till 6pm. So no chance i'm seeing much or any of the 1st half.
P.S. i know people work different shifts before anyone starts, but most folk still work the 9-5 or similliar.

Don't know if its mibbee to do with the temperature Tek. Check out Tuesday. Gets down to freezing around 8.

DCT reporting that we offered to delay kick off yesterday but St Johnstone refused, citing coronavirus protocols in their reasoning. Load of shite! Anyway, looking forward to Tuesday.
I noticed in some pictures that Edwards was in the squad. Might mean that Neilson was dropping out, which would be a shame.
No real changes though as Pawlett, Butcher still likely out. Fuchs too. McNulty maybe the only one who was on the edge that gets a few more days to be ready.
I saw a rumour that Benji wasnt in the squad yesterday... anyone heard anything?

Did they not cite it was the amount of time they would be in the stadium in total may have been against the protocols. Not sure what the protocols actually state.

Starting to think if we can pick up 6 points this week that it would go down as our two most important wins of the season so far.
Win tomorrow puts us 10 points ahead of St Johnstone in 9th place, 11 points ahead of Hamilton in 11th place and crucially 12 points ahead of Ross County in 12th having played the same amount of games.
Then win on Saturday and we go 14 ahead of Hamilton and (IF County lose to Aberdeen) 15 points ahead of them in 12th.
A lot easier said than done... but we need to be attacking these games with all we have got. Balls into the box, high pressing, fast paced, the lot. We have nothing to fear against either of teams apart from our own negativity so lets hope Micky sees this too and puts out a team to have a go.
Even if we do go 3 at the back (which both St J and Hamilton play so don't be surprised if we match up to that) then lets actually play a 3 at the back instead of the 5 we've realistically played recently. Get those wing-backs up the park and never leave Shankland isolated up top. If it is to be Powers in centre midfield with Harkes then actually get him on the ball and push the rest of the team forward. Don't just launch it up to Shanks. When Powers came on against Aberdeen our whole game moved 20 yards further up the field. This is something only he can give us as he is so calm on the ball.
Buzzing for the two games this week, lets hope the lads turn up and put a smile on the face of every Arab.

I think the question MM will be asking himself this week (it's all about asking questions for him) is can he keep the handbrake off without Jeando. I'd like him to but we know he's all about keeping us solid and making sure we're in games come the end of them pick up points. Does he have enough trust in either Harkes/Powers/Pawlett to play them in a 2? Jeando has been phenomenal at covering ground which makes playing a flat 4 much easier.
Whatever the formation, our confidence seems quite good at the minute so as long as the approach is to attack over defend then i'm happy with either formation given the injuries.

We seem to have very generous odds for a home win tomorrow night. St Johnstone odds on favourites with most bookies for some odd reason. I just got 60-1 for 2-1 United with Nicky Clark to score first. Probably jinxed us but gotta be worth a shot lol.

Big game tonight.
A win would be massive.
We need Shankland to start scoring again and tbf there were good signs against Aberdeen that his form had turned a corner.
Powers deserves a start and i agree with above. Get him and Harkes a good 20 yards further forward up the park. We need to stop isolating Shankland and Clark.
We need the wing backs camped on the halfway line too with the instructions to get forward whenever possible.
Mon Utd.

Care to predict a United win while you're at it? 😉

2-1 with Clark scoring first if you don't mind 👍😋

Looks like St J have gone 4 at the back. First time I think they've done that this season.

We take the point and move on but I'm sick of reading "get this 3 at the back to fuck" because the reason we drew tonight was down to the players and nothing more. They gave 100% to a man. But apart from a couple of players, we lack that real quality. Jamie Robson tonight was really poor imo. Simple passes being wildly misplaced and it was his man for the first goal from the corner (same as Motherwell game). Powers and Harkes are good footballers, but we need better at this level. Way too many moments where we gave the ball away cheaply tonight.
Connolly man of the match for me.
Shankland's goal INCREDIBLE.

If we had a bit of pace in central defence we probably would play 4 at the back. Our defence lost 2 very poor goals . We are too weak in the air, Edwards can't run but he does help in the air.
Agree with above post Robson was shite again.

Not sure how many points will keep us up this season but I think if we draw 9 of the last 15 then we will stay up 😉.
I am not going to criticise tonight as it is a decent point and keeps the gap between us and the fermers,. The plus points were that amazing goal from Shankland, great save from Benji also it was good to see Appere get some game time (thought he wasn’t the worst).
Mellon has had a good 5 months to assess the squad and with a bit of luck in getting McMullan and Smith out the door hopefully he can get in a loan player that will add a bit of quality in the middle. I don’t think that anyone can say the players are not trying and he’s trying to get a system that will keep us in the league for next season.
Ps. Nicky Clark should have stood and applauded at that corner kick along with every other United player for one minute.

I thought Connolly and Smith were our best players, Benji too was decent actually.
Shankland’s goal might be the best I’ve ever seen from a United player. Wish we could have been in the stand behind Zander Clark’s goal for that
