We have no idea what Newman is like. And with the best will in the world, our recent history is poor with young goalies. Paul Gallagher the last one I can think that was decent. And that was nearly 20 years ago!

What has that boy got to do to get a chance? Had two brilliant loan spells elsewhere, but still not given a chance at Utd.

I find it a bit of a myth that Mellon plays young players. Only really Neilson and Chalmers have been brought into the fold.

The whole 'Academy' shtick the club keep promoting on Social Media a bit hollow too in instances such as this.

Is this really the season to be gambling too much on youth though? Staying up is all that matters and I'm happy we are not putting that weight onto very young shoulders. If we were to be in a position late in games to give these kids a few minutes then I'm certain the manager would be keen to do so. Unfortunately pretty much all of our games have been tight so that option hasn't been there. I'm sure the manager knows these players and their capabilities better than we do as fans. 6th place at this stage of the season is testament to that in my eyes.

Davidson can play left back. Unless we are going to sign one to replace Robson then he is surely someone who we should be looking to introduce into the 1st team squad at 20 years of age.

As for Mellon knowing all about the player, Davidson hasn't played even one minute for him. How can he possibly know whether the lad is or isn't good enough?
 

 
I think he is a right back/centre midfielder mate but certainly a bit of a utility man known to be able to play all across the back.

I guess we dont know the circumstance. I've seen him a few times in the past for the reserves. He always seemed like someone that was ready to play mens football physically. He is a right unit. But Mellon is the one seeing him day in day out and most importantly, Brian Grant is the head of the pathway/loan side of things. And I'm sure they would have weighed up all the best options.

If he goes and gets 15-20 more games under his belt then we'll get a better player back in the summer (assuming we renew his contract). Would he get 15 games for us this season? Unlikely he would get 5 tbh. But with Powers and Pawlett out of contract in the summer, maybe he is going out on loan to show that he can go to a Championship team and improve them and move into our first team for next season.

I understand and partly feel the same about the here and now. Obviously in the short term I would like nothing more than Davidson, Mochrie etc to get some game time between now and the summer. But in reality their loan moves will be better for them and us in the long term.

Also on loan. Flo Hoti's loan at Forfar was 'until January'. Maybe Davidson had been allowed to go out because Hoti is coming back in?

Agreed, they will develop more on loan than getting an odd 5 minute cameo for the first team. Like I said, this season is probably not the best time to be blooding too many 17 year olds.

Mellon confirms that McMullan won’t be considered again for the first team and thinks it would be best if he moved on now.  Hopefully something gets sorted soon.

Hoti's loan was originally only until January so of all the loans, he'd be the one most likely to come back. The club has a decision to make I guess with the rest. It's likely that the rest of the leagues will start back up again... but when?
