We have no idea what Newman is like. And with the best will in the world, our recent history is poor with young goalies. Paul Gallagher the last one I can think that was decent. And that was nearly 20 years ago!
I thought Gallagher was shite. Your right though Definately a long line of dodgy young keepers

Did you really?? I thought he was excellent for us.

Not sure if this one has already been posted in here. Was uploaded 23rd Dec. Shows him working a lot deeper and linking play. I cant wait to see this guy playing for United every week. He is only 17!!

GMS set to sign a 2.5 year deal with Hearts. Some signing for those cunts.

I think we should recall Chris Mochrie too tbh. I know he could probably do with much more development time, elsewhere. But if we are in the position to sign no-one in January then surely he is a handy boy to have on or bench? As we literally have zero creativity from a No.10 position.
Just seen that Davidson is off to Arbroath on loan

Didn’t do Chalmers any harm. Good luck to him

Never said he did. Maybe he didn’t even need to play to be pushed on. As stated, appears to have done him no harm.

What has that boy got to do to get a chance? Had two brilliant loan spells elsewhere, but still not given a chance at Utd.
I find it a bit of a myth that Mellon plays young players. Only really Neilson and Chalmers have been brought into the fold.
The whole 'Academy' shtick the club keep promoting on Social Media a bit hollow too in instances such as this.

Agree'd . I';d say only Neilson really as Chalmers is almost 21? hardly a kid, rest of them have only had 8 mins or so

Is this really the season to be gambling too much on youth though? Staying up is all that matters and I'm happy we are not putting that weight onto very young shoulders. If we were to be in a position late in games to give these kids a few minutes then I'm certain the manager would be keen to do so. Unfortunately pretty much all of our games have been tight so that option hasn't been there. I'm sure the manager knows these players and their capabilities better than we do as fans. 6th place at this stage of the season is testament to that in my eyes.

Davidson can play left back. Unless we are going to sign one to replace Robson then he is surely someone who we should be looking to introduce into the 1st team squad at 20 years of age.
As for Mellon knowing all about the player, Davidson hasn't played even one minute for him. How can he possibly know whether the lad is or isn't good enough?

I think he is a right back/centre midfielder mate but certainly a bit of a utility man known to be able to play all across the back.
I guess we dont know the circumstance. I've seen him a few times in the past for the reserves. He always seemed like someone that was ready to play mens football physically. He is a right unit. But Mellon is the one seeing him day in day out and most importantly, Brian Grant is the head of the pathway/loan side of things. And I'm sure they would have weighed up all the best options.
If he goes and gets 15-20 more games under his belt then we'll get a better player back in the summer (assuming we renew his contract). Would he get 15 games for us this season? Unlikely he would get 5 tbh. But with Powers and Pawlett out of contract in the summer, maybe he is going out on loan to show that he can go to a Championship team and improve them and move into our first team for next season.
I understand and partly feel the same about the here and now. Obviously in the short term I would like nothing more than Davidson, Mochrie etc to get some game time between now and the summer. But in reality their loan moves will be better for them and us in the long term.
Also on loan. Flo Hoti's loan at Forfar was 'until January'. Maybe Davidson had been allowed to go out because Hoti is coming back in?

He has played left back, right back and defensive midfield.
Very versatile player and a bit of a unit for his age (as you say).

Agreed, they will develop more on loan than getting an odd 5 minute cameo for the first team. Like I said, this season is probably not the best time to be blooding too many 17 year olds.

There we go
First 4/5 games McMullan had for us thought he was going to be a cracking player in the Championship - then he got sent of for punching that boy v QOS and he was never the same that first season.
He had a great wee run of games last season during our long unbeaten run but he is so inconsistent - not just from game to game but even during games. One if the most frustrating players I've ever seen in tangerine.
Clear that Mellon doesn't see him as part of his plans either so good luck to him at that shitehole up the road.
As for Mochrie - I think getting him back now is a great shout.

Mellon confirms that McMullan won’t be considered again for the first team and thinks it would be best if he moved on now. Hopefully something gets sorted soon.

Best wishes to McMullan.

With the lower leagues cancelled for at least 3 weeks youd think it will heppen

Whilst i agree it's best if he moves on now, what if agreement can't be reached and he is at Tannadice until the Summer?
It would be silly and detrimental to not consider him in that time period.
It's not like there would be fans at the games booing him etc. He would be able to just concentrate on his football.
I don't think the player himself would wan't to not play football for so many months.

Are we able to cancel his loan and then play him immediately?
That is the question.
If so we should also be ripping up Jake Davidson's loan agreement.

All loans, even if its for a year can be cancelled in January

Hoti's loan was originally only until January so of all the loans, he'd be the one most likely to come back. The club has a decision to make I guess with the rest. It's likely that the rest of the leagues will start back up again... but when?
