He has been superb.

But the easiest position in the team to replace is Goalkeeper imo. And we already have a good No.2 Keeper.

If the money is good and means we can somehow get one or two other players in then it might not be as bad as you think SM.

Agree with this. Anytime our number 2 has stepped in he’s been fine.

Nonsense.

We’ve just picked up 4 points from Killie and Well with him barely making a save. In the Well game he was responsible for giving them a couple of chances. It would be a blow but certainly nothing we couldn’t recover from.

I guess that is a sentence we have become used to over the years.

I wouldn't see it as 'actively' trying to sell but at the end of the day, the amount of money we've missed out on this season could be anyone's guess. I shudder to think what it could be. If someone put's a million note on the table then as sad as it is, players will go.

For what it's worth, we have Benji and Shankland that are potential assets at the moment. Cant think of any more until you get down to boys like Neilson and Smith who have had transfer gossip surrounding them previously. At this stage if we had to lose 1 then I'd say Benji as Deniz is an able replacement. With McNulty being out, losing Shankland would be horrific at this stage of the season.

Ideal scenario is they both stay, we remain in the league comfortably... and then we get some decent money for both of them in the summer to plug the gap that this season has left. If I'm being honest, this is what I predict will happen. But this is football, you never know whats round the corner.

Re: January transfer window - rumours/signings/departures

Some rumours that GMS is considering offers from a few clubs in Scotland. In the likely scenario that we are not one of them, I hope he ends up at an Aberdeen or Hibs as I wouldnt want one of our rivals this season to add him to their ranks. I would love him back.

Hopefully he is.  Sadly not just Utd buts its become about the survival of the club.  Just as We can't refuse any decent offers for our players this works it's way down the system.
If Seigrist goes it will be easier to underpay for a keeper from the championship ship than it was on the past.

If we do sell anyone this window I wouldnt expect the money to be spent on anyone. All it does is free up a wage for a loan or free agent in my eyes.

Time will tell but can’t help but feel it would be a disaster, Mehmet is fairly untested at us only playing 20 games in 3 years! We would 100% need to replace Benji with a goalkeeper to fight it out with deniz

Maybe nonsense but he’s been absolutely brilliant, and got us numerous points!  Honesty think it would be a disaster, but willing to give deniz the chance as it does sound like Benji will be away, so away for a greet in the corner of a room

Re: January transfer window - rumours/signings/departures

I dont really think it "sounds like Benji will be away" if I'm being honest mate. Until the headline is 'United receive bid for Siegrist' then take everything with a pinch of salt. There is more chance that he is here until the summer than there is of him leaving in my eyes.

Try get a nominal fee and get rid, which will probably happen when we have a replacement ready to be signed I would imagine

Going to play in Cyprus it seems so not sure why it's relevant to us.

Re: January transfer window - rumours/signings/departures

Not sure myself, was a GC message saying he’d agreed a deal to leave Wigan. Probably just boys putting 2+2 together.

Me personally, I don’t see us signing anyone. Not after asking players to take pay cuts.

Going by Mellon's press interview today, I can't see McMullan playing for us again. Likely he will be away soon.

Mellon mentioned there are youngsters at the club ready to be given a chance in McMullan's position.

Fotheringham?
Mochrie?
Watson?

Quite the turn around. Only earlier in this season folk wanted him dropped.

The climate and our financial troubles can’t be ignored. I hope we get more but realistically he’s a 28 year old uncapped goalie with only one spell as No.1 and 18 top flight games.

Ideally there’s a bidding war and a few clubs interested. If it’s true that English teams are scouting Scotland more because of brexit, I’ve no doubts he’s been recommended even when he wasn’t the one being watched. So that may help us. As will the good press he’s had.

My point is, if there’s only one serious bidder, I don’t think we can afford to drive too hard a bargain because it sounds like we need a chunk of cash ASAP.

I agree with you.

You sell when you can not when you have to.

Ogren's most recent comment regarding our financial situation worried me a lot. We know nothing about his financial position, but, I think it is safe to say any projections he made did not take into account the current pandemic.

This is a highly illiquid market and with Shankland not setting the heather on fire, we can't afford (as a selling club) to be too snooty about reasonable offers. It's about what Benji is worth NOW as opposed to his potential that matters. It's not ridiculous to suggest that this could be the difference between the club going into administration or cementing our place in the Premiership.

We have no idea what Newman is like. And with the best will in the world, our recent history is poor with young goalies. Paul Gallagher the last one I can think that was decent. And that was nearly 20 years ago!
