Watching the Hibs v St J highlights last night got me thinking.
Both these teams are better than us. St J have found their mojo.
We're sitting 5th & I got to say sorry but that is a false position.
After Livi away a week on Saturday we have 7 league games before the middle of January.
I wouldn't be surprised if all we get out of Old Firm/Dons/Hibs/ M'well/Killie/St J is a measly 7 or 8 points.
Which could have us in 10th place rather than 5th.
Are we prepared for this or am I worrying too much? I don't normally.
Is my anxiety born out of this strangest of seasons, it's totally bonkers with no fans.
As the season progresses will it get harder for us with our 4yrs inexperience in the doldrums not stacking up against the the survival instincts of the perennial Prem escapologists?
I think it will but we might just have enough to end up 9th with Accies/St M/Livi below us.

Strong start should leave us in good stead for the rest of the season, even if performances havent been great. Results have been grinded!
Dont think we will go down, if we get playing we have a more exciting and better squad than a lot of thew clubs in the prem.
Not like you at all SmedDUm. I'd happily take 7 or 8 points from those games and I think that would keep us on track for 6th position.

at the moment we are on 20 points and not halfway through the season yet. for the last few seasons the teams in the play off place have ranged between 32 and 36 points (36 points when Rangers were not in the league).
Given where we are I am optimistic about the rest of the season and with everything going on plus our first year back I would have taken 9th at the start of the season.
Also feel we have not yet found our form when we start creating more chances for our strikers then other teams will worry about us.

Just looking at the league table there and considering the likely beneficiaries of the games in hand points and current/likely form. I think there is a good chance that the league will separate into 4 distinct groups 1. Old Firm, 2. Hibs and Aberdeen, 3. Us, St J's, Motherwell and Killie, 4. County, Livi, Hamilton and St Mirren.
That has us no worse than 8th and I'd be pretty happy with that, but if we can make ourselves difficult to beat at home and still pick up the odd point away then I think we are as likely to remain in the top half as not.

I think we'll end up comfortably 8th or even 7th which would be excellent. A lot of people are saying we'll open up a bit more once we are statistically safe. Will we though? To be fair, up until the Killie game we were quite attractive to watch.
The issue I have is what then? Will it be the same next season? Another season of grim, safety first football until we stay up again? Fuck that, it's supposed to be entertainment that we are paying for not a war of attrition.
If MM thinks he needs more of his own players in to progress will the budget be there for that? Covid may have curtailed teams like us and their ambitions for the next few years to come.

I think we're all in the same boat on COVID bar the old firm. As ever it'll be the team who reacts best to it that will do well. Clearly squads are going to be leaned down and I suspect clubs will be forced to look more at local talent which might suit us

I'd have to say I think you're being overly negative here. Firstly I see no evidence that St Johnstone are better than us, we have more points than they do plus they've not beaten us in 3 attempts so far this season. I'd say we are probably more evenly matched at this point in time. Also, whilst we do have a tough run of games coming up, other teams will also drop points. Livi and County would both have a fairly big gap to make up to overtake us over 7/8 games and would need to really hit form. I think we will be fine, 45 points for the season is my bet right now. Hopefully sneak a few more to make it into the top half before the split though. Cup half full here.

I'm no' the best with arithmetic Smeds but I canny see us being 10th after run of games you mention or put it another way I don't see the arithmetic of how we could end up 10th stacks up - if only by virtue of the fact that others in mid table group will lose points against Uglies and against one another. Notwithstanding the fact that we're 8 points clear of Livi in 10th with same games played
Either your arithmetics worse than mine or your looking for a bite !!
For me, I'm cup half full, I reckon teams below us will be looking up & saying Huns, Celtic, Sheep, Hibs Us ..... normal services resume.
All right we're vulnerable due principally to continually and frustratingly giving away possession which as a consequence we canny score goals if we've no got the ba'.
Some below us gave games in hand, we have points on the board.
Other teams mid table must look at us and wish they had Shanks McNulty and Clark.
We will weep stupid points here and there but we are grinding out points and I do think that elusive brilliant performance we've been craving since 6 v 2 is just around the corner.

The past few league games we have been lucky to pick up anything and with others below dropping at the same time it has helped us. We need to hope during the next 8 matches upto and including St Johnstone on 9th January we can pick up a few points.
Overall i think we will be 8th or 9th come the seasons end.
We've just gone 6th!
Motherwell awarded 6 points for two 3-0 wins cos of St Mirren & Killie Covid-19 rule breaches.
And Hamilton awarded a 3-0 win v St Mirren.
Not been a great week for St Mirren, financial irregularities as well.

Sheer stupidity by Killie and St Mirren to be honest. Allowing players to car-share is fucking ridiculous.
Can you imagine if St Mirren get relegated by just a couple of points? Wow.
