Utd Loan Watch - 20/21

Apologies for starting this thread a couple of weeks later than i had intended too. I know a lot of you (myself included) like to keep up to date on how our loaned out players are performing for their loan clubs. Feel free to add to this thread btw.
___________________________________________________________________________________________
On Saturday past (24/10) Cammy Smith played 92 minutes for Ayr Utd as they drew 1-1 away to Scottish Championship rivals Inverness. Cammy set-up Ayr's goal in the 57th minute and also came very close to scoring himself according to the match report.

___________________________________________________________________________________________
Also on Saturday (24/10) Kieran Freeman played the full 90 minutes for Peterhead who succumbed to a disappointing 0-2 defeat at home to last season's League Two Champions Cove Rangers. Ross Graham was an unused substitute for the men from Aberdeen. This result puts Cove as early leaders at the top of League One. Their North East rivals Peterhead sit at the polar opposite end of the table in 10th.
__________________________________________________________________________________________
Saturday also witnessed Florent Hoti producing a 'combatitive' 90 minutes for Forfar Athletic, as he helped them register a solid away point at Falkirk in their 1-1- draw. Hoti was noted in the match report to have been involved in 4 fouls during the match and entered the referee's book for one such foul. He also was noted to have had two shots at the Falkirk goal. One of which hit the left hand post of the Falkirk goal. Forfar's equaliser from the penalty spot was despatched by former Utd Academy forward Jordan Allan (who himself replaced another ex Utd Academy player during the match in Archie Thomas).

__________________________________________________________________________________________
And finally for this weekend. Saturday (24/10) seen Chris Mochrie play 88 minutes for Montrose who came from 2 nil down to draw 2-2 away at East Fife. The Fifers had 3 ex-Utd players in their starting XI in Stewart Murdoch, Danny Swanson and Kevin Smith. The point see's the men from Links Park move off the foot of League One.

Re: Utd Loan Watch - 20/21

Cammy Smith wont be back in a United Strip.
Interesting next week as Forfar host Montrose with Hoti and Mochrie up against each other in midfield

Unless we have insisted on a recall option on his loan.

I hope we have in all loanee instances as we will likely get our shot of a Covid outbreak at some point and if the SPFL are insisting on playing matches or forfeiting them then i'd rather we had the players to play them.

I'm assuming that won't happen because they are effectively in another club's 'bubble'?  If that is right does that mean that these young guys aren't training with us through the week?  That would be less than ideal.

I'm sure i seen Kieran Freeman at Utd training on a video just about 3/4 days back. I'm pretty sure they will still be training with Utd and just getting tested twice a week with the rest of our players.

Re: Utd Loan Watch - 20/21

Smiths an odd one. Has looked decent at other teams but has failed to impress a succession of united managers... is it attitude? Does he not fit into the system? Who knows

Re: Utd Loan Watch - 20/21

McKinnon had too many number 10's and he failed to impress out wide. Neilson I think was in his quantity (and not a lot of)  quality stage of January recruitment because the depth was poor. Unfortunately for Smith, the players we had didn't suit his inclusion overall. So two poor recruitment decisions for me rather than trying to pass the blame to the player.

Probably right Tek - part time boys in the lower leagues can't be in a bubble right enough.  Guess there is still a risk though that these boys bring Covid into our squad - guess it can't be avoided anyway!

Theres no 'blame' - sometimes things don't work out but since you raised the number of 'no 10s', i had a wee look at number of appearances in 2016/17....some size of front line!

its a mixture, depending on testing and when they train with the part time teams, they either train with the main group on by themselves at St Andrews

Cheers, bowers (and Tek), I'd forgotten all about Jake Davidson, he seems to be playing regularly in central defence now.

Forgot about him too.

He supposedly was really good at Queens Park last season.

If he only has one league game left with Waterford we may see him in the Utd first team squad soon.

Illustrates United tranfers over past year or three - some total garbage in, 'specially if you add Lyng to list, others like Kawashima, the Austrian guy, and De Boer (? was it) which were a shambles, some mediocre, and one rare talent there - Andreu.

Suppose it's the nature of the whole rushed transfer window which dictates hit or miss nature of signings, but we've been our own worst enemies.

I think you're thinking of Christof Rabitsch for the Austrian. A truly terrible player, I remember watching him pre-season vs Brechin as a Trialist and thinking there was no way we'd offer him a deal. Looked well out of depth, fast forward a few days later and he was unveiled on a 2 year deal

I might be bumping my gums about the quality this season but he made Harkes and Butcher look like Xavi and Iniesta

Re: Utd Loan Watch - 20/21

Tonight (27/10) Archie Meekison played the full 90 minutes for Spartans FC of the Lowland League. He scored in the match and had other attempts on goal but his efforts were sadly to no avail as his side lost away to Gala Fairydean 3-1.

Young Archie also scored on his Spartans debut a few days ago, so that's two goals in two games for him. A great start for him at the Edinburgh club.

Re: Utd Loan Watch - 20/21

On Saturday past, Cammy Smith played 86 minutes for Ayr Utd in their 3-2 defeat away to Morton in the Scottish Championship. Cammy scored on the 74th minute to put the 'Honest men' two nil up but a frankly, remarkable comeback victory from the 'Ton seen the men from Greenock claim all the points with all 3 Morton goals scored in a crazy FIVE minutes of play towards the end of the match. Morton goals scored in minutes 83, 85 and 88.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________
Also on Sat (31/10) Kieran Freeman played the full 90 in Peterhead's 0-2 away win in Cumbernauld versus Clyde FC. Freeman received a yellow card in the game but that will be of little consequence in what was a welcome win and clean sheet for Jim Mcinally's men, who rise up two places in League One (and out of the relegation spots) as a consequence of said victory.
__________________________________________________________________________________________
There were two other League One fixtures which held Utd interest on Sat (31/10).

One was at Station Park, Forfar as Montrose registered a 2-3 away win against the home side. Chris Mochrie played the entire game for the 'Gable Endies' and indeed set-up their 93rd minute winner against their North East rivals. Florent Hoti was not in the Forfar Athletic squad (presumably injured).

The other League One fixture that featured a Utd Academy man was at the Balmoral Stadium as league leaders Cove Rangers maintained their position at the top with an impressive 1-0 win against Partick Thistle. Ross Graham a 77th minute sub that helped the Aberdeen men register the win with an almost last touch winner (93rd minute).
___________________________________________________________________________________________
And lastly for this weekend.

Also on Sat (31/10) Archie Meekinson's 68th minute sub cameo for Spartans FC was not enough to prevent his loan club suffer a 2-0 reverse away against East Kilbride FC in very windy conditions. The home win puts the men from Lanarkshire atop of a fiercely competitive Lowland league in the infancy of it's season.

That last paragraph confuses me. Waterford hoping to qualify for Europe? Are we not already underway with the group stages, how's that going to work then? Or is it the earliest ever qualification for next seasons European campaign?

Aye, for next season. Ireland operates a summer programme.
