Lack of effort is never an excuse.
Underestimating opposition, having less urgency & fight etc has to be a thing of the past after years of it.
Players are taking wages from fans donating ST money knowing we can't turn up. For them to take it & not turn up kills support!

The only thing we seem to be learning of late is how to be shit. A couple of good performances especially from the new recruits would really help.
Some of the lineups and substitution decisions of late have definitely been a cause for concern, but surely it is ridiculous to write off Mellon this early.
As for the owners, unless you have the money to buy them out, I'm not sure what thinking "something stinks" does for anyone?
Diddy cup, cmon mate! Major trophy in Scotland, what I would do to see United lift that trophy! Hope the players realise this, going by that performance they don’t
Once it gets to the last 16 maybe, but the group stage is an absolute joke. Makes the Intertoto look like an exciting prospect. The fact it is getting in the way of the actual league this year takes a stupid idea and amps it up to 11

Agree with you nomad, about the tournament.
But that doesn't detract from a concerning performance. A wee bit earlier in the season, I thought we may have a chance of creeping into the top six, but realistically now feel staying up will be a success given our set up.
I wonder if those at the club think the same, in the circumstances: is the project to get through the season with the league status intact, in the hope that our vaunted youth players can mature and make a big contribution next season? Or is that wishful thinking?

It's not getting in the way of the league though Nomad is it?
3 games during International week.
3 we should be winning. Comfortably. And progressing through to the last 16 with the minimum of fuss.

Calm down lads, we have 7 players to come into that team who will probably be considered starters.
Siegrist, Chalmers, Shankland, McNulty, Sporle, Clark and Fuchs.
Gotta improve us.......................... wont it?

Depends who we're playing, i suppose.
Definitely feels like we now have a decent choice of Strikers.
But no-one in midfield who can create. As someone else said on here recently it's the equivalent of turning up to a gun fight with two guns. But no bullets.

Lol that was me as well.
The lad Fuchs is supposed to be real quality, a colleague of mine works in France a lot and folk are saying to him that they can't believe we managed to get him.

I knew it was you.😜
I really hope he is a great signing, of course. But i worry he is not what we expect or hope him too be (in terms of being able to influence games in our favour).
As it is i doubt he will start anytime soon. Boy will be sitting in a hotel room for two weeks.
I imagine they will want to put him through a mini pre-season when he finally is allowed to train.
I'd say we won't see him start till possibly County at home or St.Mirren away the following week.

It’s the creativity that’s the problem and it has been obvious for ages. To compound the issue we cannot stop losing goals. We have enough firepower now up front to see off most teams (certainly those around about us in the bottom half of the league) but without creativity we will end up in a proper dogfight and I don’t know if we would have the bottle to come out on top.

Feels like we’re meandering into another tumultuous time at united. Here we go again.
We’ve got 11 points so far and if I’m Mellon I’m looking at my central defenders thinking if you done your jobs properly we should have an extra 5 points (St J win, Hamilton win, livi draw). The performances need massive improvement ASAP but we’re a few brain farts away from a great start points wise. We then work on performances there after. So I have sympathy for the mistakes that you can’t legislate for so far. However, need to see more of gameplan ASAP.
However, how anyone can mention or point to Asghar on a thread about losing to Peterhead at home is beyond me. Before he joined, worth remembering we were floundering around the championship for 3 years before pissing the league. The youth structure has tangibly improved to the point we’re seeing an impact every week on the first team. I do not get cynicism at this early stage

Has the youth structure really improved though? (It will be years before you can answer that properly) Loads more staff maybe, but the boys coming and playing in the first team just now are nothing to do with any improvements Asghar has made. Neilson and Chalmers (the only 2 to really have made any impact) have both been at United for years.
You could reasonably argue that the only reason we’re seeing the youth players getting game time just now is because Asghar has completely failed in his main job role - to improve the 1st team squad.

I think we need to take half a step back and realise that all the plans Asghar and the owners had for the club have probably went out the window when COVID appeared in all our lives. We've started this season with essentially the same starting 11 as we did in the Championship last year.
For me, just staying up was going to be our target this season and that remains my thoughts.
However, that does not take away from how poor we've been of late, particularly in the last two games, two horrific performances.
When we appointed Micky I commented on here I hope he is not one of these guys who has spent all his career down in England and comes up here thinking it will be a doddle compared to down south (Paul Heckingbottom anyone?) and start filling the squad with players from League 1 and League 2 in England. I remember that somebody at the time commented that those leagues are of the same standard as our top league so any player we get from there should be good enough, well I think Edwards has proved my point so far on that one. He looks every inch a League 2 clogger, I hope he can prove me wrong.
I really hope this is just a bad patch and the addictions of McNulty and Fuchs can make difference as well as Liam Smith coming back into fitness.

Also the relegation/promotion fiasco with the jambos poured vital funds down the drain.

I've commented before (someone will find it) where i stated Mellon is full of pish. Two interviews since Brechin and it is totally unbearable. I've never seen a man make so much shit up on the spot, you can actually see him as he speaks making it up. FRAUD. get him away to fuck

Mellon has to give Cammy Smith, Mcmullan etc a chance and these games are ideal for it but in previous seasons these games would have been at the start of the season.
There have been posters saying we have a no 10 in Cammy Smith and Mcmullan playing through the middle/ on the right wing is an option when quite clearly it's not and he now has seen this for himself ( he did say when he came in everybody will get a chance ). He knows that performance yesterday is not good enough and until we get our full squad all playing ( which could take weeks ) we will struggle.

The number of people who called Mellon our best manager in years and demanded a 6 year deal etc. on the back of 'We Are Dundee United' comments must be feeling foolish.
If powers is available next game, he MUST play. The centre of midfield is an absolute fucking mess and don't create anything. Give someone else a chance and get Butcher /Harkes combination away ti fuck.

Powers came on yesterday, and instantly saw the difference! Has to play along side harkes next game as he has the legs to get around the park and butcher moving back in to centre half!

When Micky came in I loved all his "we are Dundee United".
I still love the positivity, I hate the cliched excuses
But we have to continue to back Micky.
He's brought belief, without belief we are never going to challenge the Uglies. Without belief we always run the risk of a horsing. The horsings we've had, albiet one to Killie could end up costing us league positions on goal difference.
He successfully brought in young guys who have been and will be the future of our club.
One thing that's glaringly is wrong and what desparately needs remedied is the defence. Shit defence, shit results. I find it bewildering why Butch isn't at CB- he's superior to Connolly, Edwards. Lets hope Fuchs is out churning out the miles until he's out of lockdown. (No certain how lockdown works back home ?)
Signings: the two main ones Fuchs, heaps of potential and McNulty, hope he's no a football mercenary, hope he has workrate and proffesionalism.
Transfers: bewildered again, this far into season and I question what's going on. Thought Ashgar was the boss of transfers ? Thought the young Ogren was supposed to be one on the spot every 4-5 weeks reporting back ?
But what worries me most of all is we seem to lack funding from Mr Ogden to back the marque signings we need particularly defence, winger.
No investment no return and we're a quarter of the way into the season and worryingly lost games to teams we should be giving the horsing to.
We are Dundee United, we cannot have bad results in any game no matter who against.
Bad results = bad dressing room.
Get it sorted Micky.

Agreewith a lot you've said but disagree with the inference that because we're United, we should be beating these teams. We were very badly managed on and off the pitch for years. That takes a long time to rectify. The process started with Robbie, gained momentum under Ogren and continues under Mellon. As it stands, we have no divine right to think we should be beating established premiership teams. Once we've established ourselves and got experience, as well as having a bigger budget, we can then have an air of expectancy that we use and manage the budget better than others and that should gain us an advantage.
Our players and Mellon are still working out the league too so i'm prepared to give them time giving the points we've got so far and the ones that have been gifted which isn't MM's fault in some cases. Management of the Hamilton game probably was though in fairness.
Would have preferred a stand out winger/wide forward than another striker to be honest but if stories are to be believed, we tried and were maybe unfortunate.
On to a game tomorrow where we can't really win but we can certainly lose. Interesting to hear Butcher say we are short on confidence. We've looked short since the Hibs game really which came on the back of a good win away at Motherwell. That's a worry as the impacts can be disastrous.

Agree Lilley.
We are United but exactly as you say we have to be Dundee United week in week out on the park, no matter the opposition.

I actually thought Jimmy Mac should have been considered. He's done a good job with Peterhead over many seasons now.
Could it be simply the fact that he is too outspoken to fit into our management structure? What I mean is, like politics, each person has to be on message.

If you take away the fact Jim McInally is an ex United man, is there anything actually in his CV to suggest he merits a Premier league job? He's not done that well with Peterhead. Some good seasons, some very poor seasons.
