With the window closing last night we have brought in simce the window opened 6 players.
What is your thoughts? Could we have signed more? Less? Other areas? What do we still need?
Jack Newman - signed for development squad hasn't seen him.
Luke Bolton - looks a find to play right wing.
Ryan Edwards - not impressed.
Florent Hoti - hoping to see him play in the coming bet fred cup games.
Jeando Fuchs - look forward to seeing him on November sometime.
Marc McNulty - happy with this signing hopefully he can be a good one.
Overall its a bit disappointing for me. We have signed 2 players in Newman and Hoti with little intention of them featuring for the first team anytime soon. Surely the cash involved in both deals would have been better spent on a creative midfielder or a left winger?
Hoping we will still see more come in who are free agents.

Agree mostly with that, I still think our squad is way to top heavy and we desperately need to move on some of the dross before making more improved signings.

Changes in the squad have to be balanced against the financially insecure background created by the health situation. All clubs have been in a situation new to them, and our position was compounded by the two Hearts related issues, manager departing and not having certainty of our league status until 5 days before the season started.
Of the players signed, a goalkeeper like Newman was a requirement as cover, he's 18 and has been in the last 4 Scotland squads for his age group, U16 through to the present U19s. He was on the bench on Friday.
Bolton can play all positions down the right and has looked competent.
Edwards, can't say I'm happy with him so far, but he's yet to play in a settled position or line up. He's been right central defender in a five, right central defender in a four, left central defender in a four, and had a mixture of Connolly, Reynolds and Neilson partnering him.
Hoti, cannae judge him yet.
Fuchs sounds and looks like a player we need.
McNulty: pleased with this signing, but every player is a gamble
He's played a few times as a winger I note, and perhaps he'll be used there by MM at times.
Online!
Bolton: 100%
Fuchs: Potential Potential Potential
McNulty: Great Youtube goals
Hoti: Fringe player, remain mystified at him in and Glass away.
Edwards: Fair/Mair Dross
Any negativity, hope I'm 100% wrong
.... and yes should have signed solid CB, although I suspect we'll see Butch Reynolds fill that role now.
.... winger - Liam Smith to come back so maybe rejig what we've got and have Bolton out & out winger ?

In Edwards defence, when he played right cb in a back 4 alongside Reynolds he looked competent. In a back 3 and as a left cb on his weaker foot he's looked poor.
Bolton's best games came as an actual right winger. His crossing has been piss poor though. No better than McMullan tbh. The simple fact is not one person at the entire club can cross the ball. That is a monumental failure of scouting and in successive managers. Tbh it has been the case for years.

I'm not convinced by Bolton. Sure he has pace but he flatters to deceive a bit for me. No end product and delivery poor also as you say (bar his assist at Motherwell).
I thought coming from Man City's academy he'd have a wee bit more about him if i'm honest.

Jack Newman - back up keeper needed - back up keeper got.
Luke Bolton - boy doesn't really know what position anyone wants him to play. Looks more of a forward player as his defending is average. Although has the McMullan's about him when it comes to crossing. Upgrade on McMullan though so fairly good acquisition if it wasn't just a loan
Ryan Edwards - Clearly a MM purchase. Has looked questionable but think he'll come good enough with more game time.
Florent Hoti - Clearly a TA purchase - agree with comment above that Glass staying would have made more sense - give the boy a chance and we'll see though. If the rumours are true that he wouldn't go out on loan when requested then it will be another one of those Kuates I fear
Jeando Fuchs - Fuchs knows - boy clearly didn't impress enough in Israel (although I suspect at a team better than us) and didn't make it Alaves (a team much better than us). Suspect he'll be an improvement assuming all the non-footballing side is OK.
Marc McNulty - you have to assume the match fixing stuff isn't going to stick otherwise why hold out til deadline day for someone that might be out for a chunk of the season on a ban. If that is correct - and I hope someone has done their homework - then he seems a good option. Certainly impressed at Hibs, but its all about service.

I have never seen Newman or Hoti play but Newman being called up by the U19s is a good sign and Hoti was training with us for a good few weeks so Mellon certainly decided on signing him so he was maybe found by TA (which is part of his job btw) but I hate all this "it's a TA signing", its a lazy way of looking at things IMO as Mellon clearly had a good look at him and decided he was good enough.
In terms of the Glass/Hoti debate, they are the same age and Hoti look s aboot 3x the size of Declan and like it or lump it, a big part of the game up here is the physical side and he looks like he can handle himself. I hope he gets some game time this week.
Bolton - in the Motherwell and County games he was outstanding. The sooner we have him back at Right Mid or even RWB the better and I think we'll see his best side. Him on the right of midfield with Shanks/McNulty in the box is an exciting prospect.
Ryan Edwards - I hope I am proved wrong but I have not been impressed with him one bit. Seems ok in the air but I'd rather see Butcher/Reynolds, Butcher/Connolly and even Connolly/Reynolds before I included him in the my team at the moment. BUT he may still be settling in so I hope given time he can improve.
Fuchs - again, never seen the guy play but he has pedigree. Excited to see what he brings to the table.
McNulty - I think he is going to be a great signing for us. With him, Clark and Shanks, we have 3 guys capable of 15+ goals in a season if given the service. If he can form a partnership with Shankland then we could be on to a winner.

"Czech striker Pavol Safranko was really close to rejoining Dundee United before the close of Mondays transfer window"
According to the Sun, can't even get his nationality right the fucking muppets.
He really wants to come back though it seems and hopes the move can be revived in January.

Replacement for Shankland?
Good to see that Lawrence didn't change the norm of people playing worse for Scotland than their club - less people will be interested! He did take his pelanty rather well though.

The more I read about fat McNulty and Jeando Fuchs being nowhere near fit enough to be considered, the more pissed off I am that we waited until the last day of the transfer window to bring in guys who can't even play yet.
Other teams on lower budgets managed to bring in players that are fit and ready to play, why couldn't we?
Of course Covid is a problem, and the managerial change didn't help, but still think we could have been a bit more savvy.

It seems a strange one with McNulty especially unless he got injured in 1 of the 2 games he played for Reading in September or in training for them. Surely both of them had been in full time training with their teams before we signed them?

You'd certainly like to think that's the case. I'm not expecting Fuchs to feature this week obviously due to him being in isolation but I'd certainly hope he's fit enough to play some part next weekend. As for McNulty, as someone said elsewhere, how fucking unfit does he need to be not to get half an hour against non league opposition ffs?

Agree them 3 games should have been perfect for McNulty to get game time. I doubt he will be involved in Saturdays game.
Fuchs i wouldnt think to the Ross County game 31st of October.

McNulty gets injured in one of those three games, and you guys would be slaughtering the management for putting him in the side when he didn't need to be.
Not sure why there is such a lack of communication coming from the club at the moment, but it seems to be leaving a vacuum that is getting filled with negativity (not wholly unwarranted tbf even if I don't share it)

Pish i dont know anyone who didnt want or expect him to get game time in those games!
Online!
Safranko, Nisbet, Paatalainen's countryman, Gogic . ..... ???
The list goes on Mr O.
The more depth, the better return for your outlay.
Last year LOA.
This year, a full quarter of a season in, we're weeping points all over the place due to bad/total lack of summer signings/ poor (bizarre in the case of Connolly) contract extensions etc..
As of this moment Mr O you seem to be playing the long game under advisement that the midterm will sort itself out, or in football terms you seem to be aiming mid/low table midterm.
Some news for you Mr O, our football works on points on the board at the end of the season - investment has to be made to put points on board. The more points lost the more the jitters set in. Unlike North America (or Southern Hemisphere Union/League ... ramble, ramble)where there's no promotion / relegation as such -solely investment, sound balance sheet.
Mr O, you are the man at the top, notwithstanding you're in the predicament of acting under advisement from Tannadice.
But from who Ashgar ? Micky ? Who ?
It's up to you to tell them to tell us wtf is going on.
Failing which you walk the tightrope of losing our faith and whispers become a clamour which will find its way back to the dressing room. You only need to look at how Micky has tempered his we are United talk.
Alternatively if summer transfer activity produces results, I'll be singing your praises.
