I like to slate the standards of journalism at every opportunity, and have to point out the imaginative shift in that article from "The Irish centre back and another man connected to the club" to "The United pair".
In any case, you'd think the taxi driver would have a video record of the incident, if true.

Some folk missing the point here.
Regardless of whether he was unco-operative and abusive to the cabbie (and it will be his word against Connolly's and vice versa) the fact would appear that he has been out in a busy bar till nearly 3am during the pandemic (and as it's on the rise again) with an other Utd player or employee. Our support were highly critical of the Aberdeen players in the thread below (and elsewhere).
id=6012&p=4
How can we defend Connolly (and the other Utd individual) for the same actions particularly given the precarious threat hanging over the league if any more conditions are breached?
p.s. i thought after selling the jerseys on Saturday he'd be the last player who'd want to get in the Manager's bad books.

I'll reserve judgement until I see a statement from the club/player. I'm not gonna start shouting the odds on the word of a taxi driver and a couple of rags I wouldn't wipe my arse on. Let's hear the full truth first.

Had the rules been changed this week due to it being a international’s? Have the rules now changed because all adult football is back now?
If they hadn’t he’s a total donkey but there’s a lot of questions about this story, story seems exaggerated

The abeddeen players were vilified because of how crowded the venues were and they remained....with 2 testing positive. Theres absolutely 0 been said that this bar was busy/breaking the rules.
If it later transpires that a he was being a knob and b put himself and others at risk, then he should be pulled over the coals for it - but at the moment its all assumptions

The Aberdeen players were out in a group of 8. Presumably from more than 3 households. They were also at one of the busiest bars in Aberdeen.
If Connolly was out with one other person, he's not breached any guidelines. Also, I'd be surprised if that bar was particularly busy on a Sunday night / Monday morning

Well it's described as a 'popular' bar in Dundee. Particularly on it's karaoke nights.
Is The Balcony Bar busy on a Sunday? I'm asking that to folk on here who may know.
Regardless, i don't see why these players can't just avoid pubs in the interim. It's ridiculous.
Why put themselves in the firing line like that.

Fair question.
I'd say it would be daft to relax it as far as taking in busy pubs.
The incubation period of Covid between exposure and symptoms manifesting is on average 5 days but according to the CDC can actually range anywhere between 2 to 14 days.
So would be remiss of Utd to relax it just for this week.

I'm more worried about his form on the park.

The rules allow the guys to go out, just like everyone else. The rules like all of them at the minute are farcical and contradictory.
If he refused to wear a mask he’s a dick.
The taxi driver shouldn’t have let him in if he refused to wear a mask.
Reporting folk to their employer for being a dick at the weekend is a nonsense and anyone doing that is a dick.
The courier are revelling in this with no proof, they are dicks.

Good aine. It's a fucking shitehole that makes the Club Bar look classy.
According to the bar staff he was a prefect gentleman all night.

I wasn't asking if it was a good pub. I'm asking how busy it is on a Sunday.🤔
As i simply don't know much about Dundee pubs other than the one's in close proximity to Tannadice.

It won't have been busy on a Sunday night. Its the Courier stirring shite and some Dee with a grudge.

Went a few times last year for various reasons, chiefly that I fancied staying out later and didn't want to get stung 15 quid to get in to fatties and get stung 4 quid extra per drink afterwards. It can get quite busy downstairs, if he was sat upstairs I don't see the issue, upstairs is usually completely dead.
Would imagine it'd be the same on Sundays.

If he has broken rules set out to the players by the club he deserved the punishment simple as that.
The story sounds a bit dodgy though. If the taxi driver wasnt happy due to him not wearing a mask he should have refused entry for a start.

Bet ye any money that the Taxi drehver is a Diddee Dee.

Appear he's been charged by the SFA for................. not wearing a mask in a taxi (if it happened).
What business is it of the SFA? This is the same organistion which thought Sevco playing without having Covid clearance for their players in an official match against Uinited was a 'misunderstanding'.

I think you're looking at it the wrong way round - who does Connolly (and he's a player I like) think he is ignoring public safety protocol and Dundee Utd instructions - especially after the Celtic and Aberdeen furore. Poor judgement from him that demands apologies to club and fans

How do you know the taxi driver is telling the truth?
