I have to ask how many chances some folk get on here. Constantly coming on trying to do nothing but chat shite and wind folk up. Never anything positive to say.

At least now we've say 5 days breathing space to get a couple in and get them up & running for FHBgame. + Eases pressure on Shanks a bit mebbe.
Got tae be a foil and eventual replacement for Shanks
One thing tho' - we could get Pele in and hes no gonnae be a lot of good wi this one at front crap.
Didnae work under Neilson don't know why Mickey is persisting
Mebbe a silver lining to Shanks injury - the suitors'll no be chappin at the door quite so hard.
Nothing is black and white.

I don't comment on every thread, gave that up years ago. But is anyone surprised by the lack of transfer movement? The economic climate has changed in football, we have lost income streams so far this season without away fans etc.. Had a long period without no income (lockdown), we are a business at the end of the day. Our owner has other business interests, not just us.
I do wonder if we had hoped a bid would have came in for Shankland to relive the pressure on the finances, but looks like his recurring ankle injury has come back, which is a worry.
100% agree UniDundee. Do I want signings to add quality to this squad? Absolutely! Am I surprised we haven’t? Not really. The Ogrens have backed us well to this point but their income stream will have been hit like the rest of us.
Is Mellon choosing to say he is focused on developing our youth rather than strengthening? I very much suspect no but I respect him for towing the company line and not being seen to be being stroppy about the situation.
The EFL is all over the shop with Covid and this new salary cap in the lower leagues so we will have to be patient to get targets from there.
This season is completely different to anything any club has experienced before. I find it bewildering that some fans still think we should be charging out there and spending magic beans on boys who haven’t been told if they are in their current teams plans (cos they’re not fully back training yet).
This season is shaping up to be one that we just knuckle down, Accept where we are, grind out results and aim for survival +.
Harsh reality - one many fans can’t seem to grasp 🤷🏼♂️
Do I detect a dose of perspective after Saturday?
Thank you Aberdeen Arab, I agree with your every word.

Did we bid for Kevin Nisbet using 'magic beans'?

Agree Aberdeen Arab.
There is a difference between a cash up front offer of £250k and a package of £250k - if that is what we offered.
Cash up front £250k nothing else.
Package up to £250k (Example: Dunfermline to receive £50k up front, money after 'X' amount of appearances, International appearances etc.. to the value of £250k.)
Massive differences between the two. I doubt Dunfermline would have received cash up front from Hibs, most deals are packages.

Did we bid for Kevin Nisbet?
Yes.
We tabled a £250,000 bid on June 16th.
It was quarter of a million pounds upfront with future add-ons.

Fine but 6 days later, our Management team disintegrated and we were dragged through the courts by Hearts. Paul and his mate did an amazing job with the walk fundraiser but who knows what the final legal bill ran to.

We also subsequently got £250,000 for Neilson from Hearts.

If it hadn't been for Benji who knows what that scoreline would have been.
Last weekend we ship 4 yes 4 v Killie.
Goals and confidence we can ill afford to lose and more pressure on Shanks as we see him as the man to come in and save the day.
Doesnae work that way
So can we afford not to spend money ?
To me we're between a rock and a hard place here so for me yes it's imperative we spend money.

Agree we have to spend. If some of those youngsters had got time under Neilson then we might have been able to ride it out for a bit, but there is only so much a better manager can do - they are the same players. Killie seem to be the first team that really showed the step up - there may be more of those days. If the heads go down when you've got a squad of youngsters then we'll be back down with the Dees next season. We need a couple of good signings minimum and a couple of squad players who are upgrades on what we have already.

Mellon confirming that English leagues 1 + 2 are avenues we are looking at due to the upcoming wage cap.
He is giving off an air of there being obstacles in the way again though.
The lack of positivity regards recruitment is a continued frustration. We aren't trying to re-invent the wheel here afterall. Just sign 2 or 3 players for key positions.
Offline
I didn't read it as obstacles - I think it is just difficult at the moment with covid. He's clearly got a budget and clearly knows what he wants (i.e. maybe 2 or 3 from 7 or 8 possibles would be my guess - we'll also need a bit of a Shankland off list as well, which might add a couple currently not being considered for price range issues). The fact he thinks he can compete with the wage capped Leagues 1 and 2 still puts him ahead of a lot of the opposition. What I think is positive is that doesn't read as if sticking with what we is an option. I suspect the players he brings in will be the difference between a good and an average to poor season so he's not going to jump at things if he's not sure. We'd all like to see something positive though and ideally a lift before Ibrox.

It must be frustrating that their pre season (EFL) and ours are out of sync.

I meant obstacles like saying we'd need to convince players to move their family here etc.
Sure that might be the case for some older players but a fair few are probably unmarried and have no kids.
Not every transfer move needs to sound so beset with difficulties is my point.
I guess i'd just like to hear some positivity regards us building a team for a top 6 push. Which is what we should be doing.

According to the papers...as was the £250k we got for Neilson. OK, it was Scott Burns who is fairly reliable but only because he seems to get info directly from TA. That doesn't mean it's 100% factual.
My point is it's all speculation, which in these cases, suits the club.

I believe their transfer window shuts a couple of weeks after ours. If a player is pondering about coming up to Scotland he may hold off to see if an offer from down south comes in.
