You could well be right. He was already a hero with me as I won £200 quid betting on his appointment lol but he definitely looks like he can make a difference. Its not just because of yesterday's result, more to do with the teams performance and his tactical decisions. Already proved to me that he will take this team further than the previous manager ever could. I look forward to Jambos kickback once they see what they've taken on 😂

Mate, way impressed with Mickey.

Like we were told great mix of barking out orders, lauding players and down to earth analysis of game.
Best of all love his respect and intense desire for our club to reach past heights.

You've got to in turn respect the appointment of Ashgar overseeing things.

Re: Summer departures/signings/rumours thread

I'm very happy with our start to the season and whilst there will be some bad days at the office at this level, I feel confident that we now have a manager that will get the right reaction from the players when we do have a bad result. I look forward to us signing a few decent additions too and points on the board allows Micky to take his time finding the right players as opposed to panic signings if things aren't going well.

Re: Summer departures/signings/rumours thread

MM is undoubtedly a step up from Robbie (although personally was never a fan of him).  I think Tuesday night is a big game for MM and the team.  Hibs are going to be comfortably top half this season and may end up being best of the rest.  If MM can put out a team that competes with them (we may still lose) then that will be enough for me to think he's got a couple of seasons (or three) to build a team good enough for us to compete in the top half every year.  Very positive start - just need to get Shankland back firing and add a couple more.  Hoping the lad Edwards is an upgrade too - his presence certainly sharpened Connolly and Reynolds games.  I'm even starting to believe that they are both OK for this level.  On the radio it sounded like they both coasted the game.

Connolly and Reynolds both had very good games, it was their kind of game though - competing with big strikers and heading balls out the box.  At least if they’re on form we don’t need to rush Edwards into the team and can work on his fitness in the meantime.

I hope Edwards can't get near the team after Tuesday night 🤞

Re: Summer departures/signings/rumours thread

See Ilmari Niskanen's table toppers KuPS  got thumped 3-0 at home yesterday, by the team overtaking them into that position, HJK. One of the scorers for HJK was Riku Riski, with his brother scoring as well.

Wonder if KuPS are wanting to hold on to Niskanen until their season ends in October, or if they drop down the table will cash in sooner?

Re: Summer departures/signings/rumours thread

Don't think MM is scared to chuck the youngsters in.  Freeman may get the nod in place of Smith.  I'm assuming he has a bit of pace too?

My mates son played for Celtic and played with Freeman at Scotland U17s. He says Freeman was a standout across his age group. Got his move to Soton that didn’t work out but if he can stay fit, reckons he’ll go all the way.

If Mickey thinks he’s ready, would be great for him to get some game time.

Re: Summer departures/signings/rumours thread

After 3 league games in MM should now be well aware of what areas we need to strengthen and i hope they are already looking at and trying to bring in a left winger attacking midfielder and striker.

Re: Summer departures/signings/rumours thread

Targetman, Left Winger and a creative midfielder still needed.

Wishful thinking, but Norwood, Niskanen and Gauld, and we’d be in a very strong position to finish top 6. Team looks solid enough but still lacking in the final third.

Re: Summer departures/signings/rumours thread

Agree with what we need above.  Truth is that C Smith, King and probably Clark aren't really up to this level.  For me Smith is fine as a squad player.  King on paper is the type we need but just hasn't shown it on the park and Clark contributes but this league shows his frailties more than the Championship.  Unfortunately I don't see that changing and i think MM will know that.  Therefore we definitely need to strengthen in those areas and obviously down the left.  Clearly MM doesn't think Glass and Mochrie are ready yet and I think we have to trust his judgement.

To be fair, i didn't think Hibs were that good upfront either.  The young boy Nisbet didn't really show and Doidge did little else bar the goal.  Boyle was always a threat, but I think we handled him pretty well.  Same with Horgan.  The young lad Doig as made to look good as we were a bit shaky down the right side without Smith.

Re: Summer departures/signings/rumours thread

Feel for the players, gave their all but with no creativity it was always going to be in vain.
Even with Shanks in that team we will struggle with the few chances we make.
Clark I'm afraid is an empty shirt in this league, he adds nothing to the team.
It shows that with a few injuries (Shanks, Smith and Robson) we were really struggling.
Reinforcements desperately required.

Re: Summer departures/signings/rumours thread

Thinking about it we were playing a young lad not used to playing CF on his own.  Not surprising that it didn't click in the last third really.  But without Shanks and much needed cover for him we are more than a bit toothless.

Clark hero to zero in 3 games. Such is the nature.

Re: Summer departures/signings/rumours thread

Would be harsh to write Nicky Clark off at this level after just 3 games for us (and games we have either created little chances or he hasn't been alongside his strike partner Shankland who he has built a bit of an understanding with).

Do i think he will be a starter for us week in week out out? Probably not. But i think he'll feature regularly either from the bench and/or have a fair helping of starts too.

He's very much a player to my mind who needs service in the penalty box or he can otherwise seem a bit anonymous (a bit like Shankland too tbqh).

And to that end we need a different type of Centre Forward on our books. One who can win headers and maybe have a bit of pace about him.

Have a read, shankland needs a clever striker beside him, that’s why I don’t think pav and shankland would work at all, that’s just my opinion

Re: Summer departures/signings/rumours thread

Agreed Tek - I think I criticised him earlier but I was certainly not suggesting getting rid of him.  He'll still be of use, but I think his game time needs to be less than 100%.  He takes a pen. very well and is one of the older heads, but the game past him by last night and he wasn't able to assist Appere at all.  He did a bit of pressing, but I don't think he is nippy enough these days to be MM's first choice for that role either.  Pawlett was considerably more effective last night - which is a bit of a reversal of fortune from my perspective (and Pawlett wasn't that effective).  From the games thus far its just as physical as the Championship but with fitter/stronger players which doesn't really bode well for Nicky.

Goals. Has 23 for Utd in the 2 years he's been here.

Ok that's not a prolific amount but there are some factors to consider of why that amount isn't higher.

1) He initially played (for the first few months of his Utd career) in arguably Utd's worst ever side under Csaba Laszlo. Where the players that were expected to create chances for him were Adam Barton, Christophe Rabitsch, Yannick Loemba, Jordie Briels etc etc 😣

2) Injuries. He's had about 3 bad one's since he joined including a broken ankle. All have kept him out for weeks at a time.

3) The above injuries not helping put together a long run of form in the team and the confidence that comes with that and minutes on the pitch converting into more goals.

One other important factor to consider why he is useful to have around is = Experience.

He's been about for years. Has a ton of games under his belt and has played in big occasions like Scottish Cup Semi Finals and Finals with The Rangers.

We have a lot of young players throughout our squad. You need some players who have been about also and can influence those kids.

He has always added to the team when called upon with goals (and assists). I think he's an asset worth keeping in our first team squad for the season ahead.

Would agree that he's not a player we can expect 90 minutes from. He's not got that type of engine about him (which Harkes and Appere seem to have, despite other faults they may have).

I'd personally see him as a useful squad man this season. One who can get you a goal from the bench.

Not to worry, he'll be off the hook next time Connolly puts a foot wrong 🙄😋
