Team v ST J

Now all the bullshits over and we can all actually talk football, how we lining up on Saturday?I’ve not really paid too much attention to the friendlies so not sure what Mick’s preferred formations going to be, hopefully 442 with a couple of new bodies in.

Re: Team v ST J

Reynolds didnt feature at all on Saturday. Neither did Clark. Impossible to know who is where fitness-wise but I'll give it a stab.

Siegrist

Smith
Butcher
Connolly
Robson

Powers
Harkes

Smith
Pawlett
Appere

Shankland

Re: Team v ST J

Would be great if we could sign the Finnish winger before weekend, don't know if this is still on the table or not though?

Re: Team v ST J

the arbitration news and the full relief involved in that has actually sunk in just by reading this thread and looking forward.

Not too fussed about the line-up for a change. More interested in how we play. How high do we press, how mobile do we look. What is MM's aspiration and how much has he got across in the short space of time. It seems like we've been starting well. I expect us to start well but the challenge I keeping it up.

LEK's team could very easily be 4-3-3, 4-4-2 or 4-2-3-1 if we do need to tweak and respond to the game.

Any St Johnstone team could turn-up. New manager, young squad etc. Given what feels like our lack of full-on prep for the big kick-off, i'd take a 1-1 all things considered as we build the squad slowlyel our way into the season.

Re: Team v ST J

A first day win would be a huge boost.  St J's are no mugs and Davidson knows the league well.  They'll be keen to get off to a flyer too so 1-1 would be acceptable.  I am hoping we can sneak it though.

I'd start Clark ahead of C Smith.  They've got a bit of pace too so I can see why folk are saying Butcher at the back, but similarly they've got a robust centre midfield so he would be missed in there too.  If the guy Bolton is fit and ready to go I'd be tempted to match him up to the ponytailed one as if he's on it he'll give L. Smith a hard time.

Is McMullan injured?

The wide midfield positions desperately need options added.

Re: Team v ST J

Don't know about anyone else but today is the first day Ive really been able to start looking forward to the season starting and it feels almost surreal thinking about the team!

Barring any significant signings I reckon we'll see the team LEK has put up.

Having said that though, does anyone know what formation MM has been playing?

Re: Team v ST J

4-4-2 or even 4-3-3
Appere alongside Shanks - make space, bustle, get right up CB, long ball option and vary the pitty-pat shite,

We know Mickey likes to attack.

Finnish laddie ?
Bolton last 15 ?

Can't wait !

Re: Team v ST J

Mellon's first serious starting XI must be the most interesting team selection for a long while.
Is Bolton here? If he's still down the M6 here's how it's looking in my eyes -
5 certs - Siegrist, L.Smith, Robson, Butcher, Shankland.
3 probables - Connolly/Reynolds (count that as one), Harkes, Appere.
3 possibles - Powers, Clark/C.Smith (count that as one), Pawlett
1 improbable - Glass
4 unlikelys - Freeman, Sporle, King, Chalmers
1 injured(?) - McMullan

You're right with MOCHRIE Shakey but he's not in the 1st team pool on the fishal where I was selecting from tho he should be & I think he's a definite improbable!

That's no been updated from last season mate apart from departing players. Given Mochrie was given a start at the weekend, I'd assume he'll be around the first team plenty this season.

Re: Team v ST J

With Reynolds injured it has to be butch at the back which isnt ideal.

I'd go

Benji

Smith  butch  connolly robson

Appere  the yanks  pawlett

               Clark

               Shanks

Heard from a source that bow has said pawlett has come back looking alot trimmer and fitter, should be one of our better players this season. To be honest it would be about time he steps up and brings more to the party, i like him but hes lost in too many games last year.

Re: Team v ST J

Ok so assuming Reynolds and McMullan out I’d like to see

.                  Siegriest
Smith. Butcher.  Connolly. Robson
Bolton.  Powers.  Glass.  Clark
             Shankland. Appere.

Subs, Newman, Smith, Harkes, Sporle, Freeman, Chalmers, Pawlett

Clark did reasonably well wide left start of last season, him and Appere can switch if need be.  Hopefully Pawlett is going to be a player this year but tbh I’d be amazed, was brutal last season.
We still badly need a new CB or 2, and some more wide options, squads paper thin.

Is this the team you want it to be or the team you think it will be?

Because, Pawlett has started every friendly which suggests to me, he's a shoo-in.

I reckon it will be:

Benji

Smith
Connolly
Reynolds
Robson

Harkes
Butcher
Powers

Pawlett
Shankland
Smith

Subs: Deniz, Clark, Appere, Bolton, Glass, Neilson, Freeman/Mochrie/King

Too much commotion

It was what I’d pick, based on nothing but last season and injury rumours.  I have no idea what team to expect tbh.

This.

Qualify it by saying:
Mochrie - bench
Reynolds who can have honorary club captain role for the season.

Is that assuming Reynolds & McMullan are carrying knocks?
Starting Bolton would be very brave so I wonder if Clark or Cammy Smith might be in for him.
I'd be surprised if we don't see some of Bolton tho.
Prediction - a stick-on draw.
