20/21 Season Predictions

I'll kick it off by saying I was looking at the Young Par Ben's Youtube video.
I highly rate this young laddie, astute and balanced comments,  great video fae the Shed.  Gie him a job on the TV.

. .. Anyway his prediction:

Celts
Four riders of the apocalypse filthy Hun Bastards
Motherwell
Hibees
Aberdeen
Killie
Livingston
Us
St Mirren
St Johnstone
Ross County
Hamilton

Interestingly mirrors Wm Hill almost identically - ref Smeds' 10 in a row posting.

Come on lads with players (+management) we already have I'd say there's something wrong if we don't go 3 places above this.

CB's a worry but balance that out with shithouse pre-season vs quality signings (hopefully match fit) that we're now in a position to bring in.

In short I believe we're underrating ourselves. (Some of us anyway.)

Your thoughts gentlemen  ?

Re: 20/21 Season Predictions

If we can get 4 more decent signings in then genuinely don’t see us outside top 6.  The rest of the leagues not exactly anything to be scared of.  If we sign no one else we’ll be battling relegation tho.

Celtic will win easily again, Sevco 2nd Hibs, Sheep will be top 6 then Well/Killie battling for top 6.  The rest aren’t great, can see St J finishing bottom.

If we went the season as we sre now i would have us 11th or 12th.

We wont and will strengthen though. I think we will be 6/7th come the end of season with the right signings. Alot of clubs have lost alot of players and not replaced.

Re: 20/21 Season Predictions

Staying out of the relegation battle will be a success.
Finish 8th or 9th will do me

Re: 20/21 Season Predictions

I'd be happy with us trying to play attacking football, being competitive and if not in the top 6 at least pushing for it before the league splits but i'm sure like most supporters i'd settle for not being in the relegation battle at the end.

Re: 20/21 Season Predictions

Quite a few teams will struggle with squad numbers/depth this season. My prediction for us is sixth.

Re: 20/21 Season Predictions

Very difficult to predict anything this season thanks to what has gone on and also the fact that the majority of us have seen very little of the Scottish Premiership for the last 4 years.

I'm seeing people on Twitter saying we'll finish 8th if we dont strengthen etc etc... I dont know about anyone else but offer me 8th right now and I take it. I'm not being overly negative, but we are going into a league none of us know anything about and our club hasnt been in for 4 years.

When I put my positive hat on... there is no reason we cant make a push for the top 6, it all depends on how well our players adapt to the league.

One thing is for sure, I'm going to do my best to be as positive as possible. There will be mini-meltdowns from some people after every defeat but realistically a good season for us will be winning more games than we lose. That could mean 12+ defeats in the league and people's mind sets will have to be reset on the back of expecting to win every week in the Championship.

People who have been round the track a few times with United will understand this but I'm seeing a lot of younger fans who were maybe early teens the last time we were in the Premiership, expecting us to go in and compete in the top 6 with Aberdeen/Hibs etc after just a few more signings which is very unrealistic.

Having said all that, the 'We are Dundee United' words from Micky Mellon on the Dode Fox Podcast this week were very inspiring... so we dare to dream!!

Re: 20/21 Season Predictions

Ironically, our team that got promoted in 95/96, struggled until we added a few signings (some of them would make a good username!) and then finished 3rd with some brilliant football and probably should have won the Scottish cup

Re: 20/21 Season Predictions

Bet365 has us 6th favourite
McBookie has us 9th

The rest has us 7/8th. I’d take 8/9th now tbh. Mathematically safe as soon as possible please.

Re: 20/21 Season Predictions

We will not finish ahead of ugly sisters, Hibs, Motherwell, Aberdeen or Kilmarnock.  So 7th at best.  Realistically Livi and St johnstone are probably going to be difficult for us to get past so I think we can be anywhere from 9 to 12.  I'd like to think we can be better than St Mirren, Ross County and Hamilton, so 9th for me.

Got to agree with all of that. We're going up to a league with bigger, faster, stronger players who are better organised and more lethal than what we're used to. We had some good results last year but also games where we were miles off it so there's nothing to suggest that we should expect to come up and be better than the opposition most weeks. We can of course be fit and compete but that's the minimum requirement imo.

I do agree there's nothing to fear from te majority of teams but i'm guessing they'll be saying the same about us. Livi, killie etc will not be fearing coming to tannadice unless we can show some consistent form. We'll have days where we win at Easter road for example and others where we're comprehensively beaten 2-0 at home to Motherwell. Will be another rollercoaster but we need to end it strongly with an improved squad and hopefully Mellon's engrained approach showing regularly and having a positive effect.

Re: 20/21 Season Predictions

I'm cautiously optimistic that Mellon is a significant upgrade on Neilson. Obviously only based on his track record and how he's come across since being appointed.

If Neilson hadn't left and we'd signed no-one, I'd be pretty depressed about the new season. As it stands, I'm hopeful of a big improvement from the squad we have.

I'll predict we are pushing for 6th

Re: 20/21 Season Predictions

LEK makes a good point (post #8) re our 4 years in the wilderness.
How deterimental is this to our succeess in the Prem?
Significant I think.
We've had 4 yrs of your QotS's & your Mortons, yoiur Alloas & your Ayrs whilst they (St J) have never been away from the Uglies, your Hibs & your Aberdeens, your M'wells & Kilmarnocks.
Instant readjustment needed on our part?

Re: 20/21 Season Predictions

I fear we are heading for relegation unless Mellon can add some diamond signings in the coming weeks. With the exception of Shankland I've got serious reservations about the quality of the rest of our Championship winning team.

Heading for relegation? We've not even kicked a ball yet ffs!

We haven't but that hasn't stopped us from speculating. The rest of the sentence allows room for improvement: 'unless Mellon can add some diamond signings'.

I hope your right about 6th. I'm just delighted to have a manager in who can make decisions without having to phone his mentors

Re: 20/21 Season Predictions

Sounds like I was being a little pessimistic, I didn't mean to be, it's so not me.
I think we will adapt to life in the fast lane tho it may take a month?
I'm excited about Luke Bolton & I'm also looking foward to two or three of the young lads doing a Louis.
So even if we don't bring anyone else in I'm confident about a top 8 finish.
Our league rivals are being very slow bringing in new faces too, got to remember we're still  in the middle of these crazy circumstances.
Can't get my head round we're playing St J at Tannadice on Saturday & cannae go?

Still an incredibly negative post

After listening to many of our fans, over the last five years, consistently over rating our sides capabilities I'd say my post was fairly realistic.

Each to their own I guess. Personally, if I was feeling that negative on the eve of our return to the Premiership after four years in the wilderness and 5 months without a game at all, I'd be asking why I bother at all.

I hope your positivity is rewarded. I'd settle for 10th right now. What's your prediction? I bother because I've been bothering since 1964.

Honestly, I reckon 7th is achievable but hoping for better. We only need to look at Livingston to see success is not by any means out of reach. Their fan base and their budget is ridiculously low and yet they are holding their own with aplomb.
