Re: When will we be inside Tannadice again?

Will you attend matches next season?

34% of fans surveyed suggests fans are less likely to attend matches (if given green light to attend) due to fear of virus/physical distance.

The research team made a number of good points yesterday on BBC Sportsound (along with a round down of the legal case, which I've stated on other threads). Next summer everyone will be feeling the recession so it might be harder for individuals to purchase season tickets, be harder for clubs to operate.

Re: When will we be inside Tannadice again?

Isn't it mental that in the midst of everything that is going on everywhere there is the small matter of the SPFL Prem fixture schedule being released at 9am tmrw. Things will be buzzing & it'll probably coincide with the appointment of our new manager as well.
Manic Mellon Monday or what?

Beer gardens open too

Re: When will we be inside Tannadice again?

Official government permission given to start the season on Aug 1st. Pre-season friendlies can be played with immediate effect. I believe we have Motherwell tomorrow? The club should do a free stream to test the system they are going to use for the behind closed door games imo.

If they dont do some kind of test run before the first game that around 5000 people are going to be streaming, it just spells potential disaster.

Re: When will we be inside Tannadice again?

So it's confirmed, 3 weeks tmrw we have St J at Tannadice & we canna go, reality hits you now doesn't it? What do we do, big pub, at home with mates?
Troll's the nearest pub but very small. Snug accomodate a good few? 4Js or Airlie Arms is a fair size.
But hold on, don't really need to be near to Tannadice, maybe just trying to pick up 5% atmosphere?

Re: When will we be inside Tannadice again?

So the Scottish Government now confirming that our schools can now re-open with no social distancing between pupils.

Surely we can start to get a crowd inside our stadia then.

Even if it's only a partial crowd?

This is a very good point. The way forward could be a proposal to allow up to a maximum capacity crowd comprised only of fans under the age of 16. It may not please most of the people on this forum but it would follow the logic of government policy,

You've got to doubt the science behind some decisions from Edinburgh and Westminster. The school stuff is on shaky foundations.

Marklandsvelvettouch, you've alluded to a very good point re 'logic'.

Another one that evades any rationality, for me, is the essential requirement to wear face coverings when in a shop for a couple of minutes (and only from 9th July, when Covid-19 must have arranged to mutate in Scotland, but is kindly waiting until 24th July in England), yet you can visit a pub or restaurant for a few hours without one.

It looks as though suitable science is being adopted for economic necessity, and that's the main argument football should be making to the government(s).

As an aside, unofficially the Scottish Government is preparing for a second peak and lock downs in Oct-Feb, led by the same science as Westminster, and if herd immunity is still being advocated by tame scientific experts and Cummings, we'd be as well allowing folk to attend matches.

I agree with much of what youve said Pat. The nonsensical logic or logical nonsense of government policy is driven by the needs of the business system. Human life and safety always comes second to the needs of the system. Personally I'd rather see no crowds at games all season rather than put folks lives at risk just to see football. I think one of the best things the club could do at the moment is push sales of season tickets as this brings in much needed revenue. The momentum behind our excellent ST sales may have stalled with Neilson leaving and the uncertainty of the Court case and our league status.
In the real world it would seem logical that football interests could propose similar measures to schools as a means of gradually phasing crowds back in to stadia.

Re: When will we be inside Tannadice again?

The point here is that it is about personal choice.  Just because Boris says you might be OK to go back to football stadiums in October doesn’t mean you have to.  Personally I’ll be waiting a bit longer than going along to sit beside a few thousand people who give the same fuck or less of a fuck than I do about the risk....

Re: When will we be inside Tannadice again?

Shops are open. Shopping centres are now open. you can have a pint in a pub. You can sit on an aeroplane and go to Italy on holiday but you cant have fans in a stadium. Tannadice has a capacity of 14000. nearly 5500 season ticket holders. I'm sure we could accommodate all season ticket holders easily in the 5 stands. 3 of them with extra tiers.

Re: When will we be inside Tannadice again?

If they did allow limited numbers in which i think they should i imagine there would be a good few who wouldn't want to go.

I was hoping to get in by October.  But now Boris has said October for England Sturgeon will go for a different date regardless what the science says.

I'll be there as soon as were allowed

What exactly is it that you're worried about Finn?  And how long do you intend to wait? Until a cure is found?  You could be waiting a very long time.

It's only a virus.  99.96% of people who contract it live to tell the tale.  Most deaths are pensioners and people with respiratory issues.  Do you fall into those demographics?

No I dont, but many of my family and friends do. We are seeing countries such as Luxembourg moving back into lockdown after being relatively clear of it. For me rushing back to football or indeed any mass attendance event would be selfish but happy that others feel it’s ok for them. I’m going to wait a bit and see how it goes.

By the way are you related to Trump by any chance. You can let me know when you get back from the face mask protest 😉

Re: When will we be inside Tannadice again?

I know 3 folk who have died from it, 2 of them in their early 50s.

Mates son, age 34, got it really bad in March, he got it from his 9 year old daughter, who brought it home from school. He'll be on an Inhaler for life.

Sorry to read this Billy, and these experiences must hugely colour your judgement. I reckon if an individual has had no encounter or acquaintance with Covid19, like myself, it will make that person more blasé about the risks.

I follow all the guidelines mostly out of respect for others, but am keen to get back to the football sooner rather than later. However, I'm rational enough to realise easing of any restrictions are based more on economic needs than solid science. That's a worrying piece of information regarding the poor lad who contracted the illness via his daughter from school.

Without going too political, Sturgeon is vindicated by the very low numbers of deaths and new cases. It’s a different strategy to WM of eradicating the virus rather than trying to reduce it to lower levels which seems to be WM preference. If she takes a different decision, it’s to genuinely save lives imo, not to spite tories. The 2 outcomes just happen to go hand in hand.

Fwiw, my preference would be for a return for season ticket holders, or as many as safely possible each week, in a socially distanced and safe way. Without a vaccine, it would be crazy to have 5,000 - 55,000 sitting, peeing, Qing side by side.

The English football has been (mostly) pish without fans. If we can do a whole host of other activities with restrictions, we should be able to attend football. I have a small worry that football fans will be discriminated against though.

I'd agree with you Pat as I also haven't encountered anyone that's had it, but fully understand that some people have had their lives changed forever by it. I'm staggered by Boris Johnsons handling of the crisis so far, and whilst everyone hated her I can't help think Maggie would have nailed this virus far earlier and done it better throughout. This masks in the supermarket thing pisses me off though. Whilst I'm entirely fine with it, it bugs me that the pubs are full of drunken dick heads every weekend but not a mask in sight for the most part. Why should I be fined for buying eggs without a mask but they can do the fucking hokey cokey and shake everything about but not be penalised?

Re: When will we be inside Tannadice again?

Tobias: 99.6% mortality rate !!!
You're having us on ? If you are - sicko.

Or you're on Planet Trump or Planet Bolsonaro.

Easy for me to say - we're well governed and geographically lucky, but forget the pros and cons  of Nicola vs Dickhead Boris - irrelevant when all's said and done.

Listen to experts:

Worry about the lives of your auld yins, yer bairns and yourselves. Better to stay inside, don't go to pub, wear face mask,  social distance.
(and agitate for improvements to the zone ! ).

Keep safe lads.

14th of September for fans getting back into stadiums with a reduced capacity

Re: When will we be inside Tannadice again?

fingers crossed that's what happens. That's a Monday, we have St Mirren that Saturday. Also worth noting, Rangers away is the Saturday before that which stops their fans creating what would likely be a very hostile environment for us. Surely a good thing.
