Been more of a fitness/performance coach as appose to a tactical/specialist coach. I would imagine we'd bring in another IF Forrest moves on as well as McCulloch - which is now being reported as the case.

Maybe Mellon wants his own guys in

Did we not have a guy Gary Dempsey for that side of it, maybe he’s going hearts too??

It says he does consultancy work so unlikely he’ll be joining us on a permanent deal when he has Liverpool, Everton etc in his CV.
I think it goes to show Asghar’s understanding of and connections in the modern game that we’d go down this route to gain any sort of advantage we can. Contrast this with ST running of the club and I think we’re in good hands.

Good interview with MM on arabzone.
Also noticeable from the clips on it that Pawlett looks to have shifted a bit of timber.

Just read his interview on BBC website and he's saying all the right things about style of football,
Giving you players a chance and developing players. I must say I'm pleasantly surprised by his signing and glad Utd have not went down the road of the usual suspects.
Time will tell but have my fingers crossed.

Yep, I was underwhelmed at the prospect of him coming in but feeling much more positive after the last few days.

Good interview with Micky on arabzone, doesn’t mention new signings but impressed with the squad he’s inherited. Asghar interview also on zone, talks about looking to add to the squad but sounds like we’ll be waiting until court case is out the way.

I hope the next interview we hear from Mr Mellon he mentions looking to build the squad.
It is nowhere near good enough for Top 6 of Premiership currently. Particularly weak in defence.
Truth is if we met Celtic and they were in the mood they'de crucify us and exploit our Centre Halves badly. Think Rangers, Aberdeen, Motherwell and Hibs could also to a lesser extent (think back to how easily Hibs scored against us in those two Cup games earlier this year).
We need at least 4 good quality additions.

I’m excited to see what players he’ll probably target from down south as he’ll have a good knowledge of players down there.

We need to bring in quality additions no just journeymen - although tbf that could have been said that of Butcher - look how he turned out - a cracker.
Some of the journeymen we do have just aren't going to cut it.
We need to have a team to aim for Euro qualification next year, no just a solid mid table effort.
In Mickey we trust.

I really cant see us having a team that is going to be able to qualify for Europe mate. God I hope we do, but I think our main aims needs to be first and foremost staying in the league and building from there.
Like Tek said, our current squad, although I think they are definitely strong enough to do reasonably well in the Premiership, are probably at risk from getting a few hidings from the better teams in the league.
It will all depend on what kind of player we bring in. I'm sure Tony has a long list of players for Micky to look at.

I agree, he was asked in one of his interviews about players and he said every player has a clean slate and he'll look at adding players over the next few weeks if required. I think we all know players are required.
Mind Neilson said he was delighted with the squad in his first few interviews in October, then signed 11 players in the January.

Top priority imho:
Left winger
Centre half
Second priority:
Striker
Another winger
Third priority:
Ball carrying central midfielder
Cover at left back
Number 10 (if Cammy Smith and/or Pawlett were moved on, we saw how Clark's injury fucked us last season, unless Glass/Mochrie step up)

Couldn't agree more.
Alex Gogic and Drey Wright are two players we could sign on a free, right now that would cover those two priority positions. I get the club are maybe holding out to see if they'll have transfer budget to maybe go for a Niskanen, Nisbet, or even Safranko as has been rumoured elsewhere, but these two lads are mid-20s, played in the Premiership last season and were stand-outs for their teams. You would have expected them to be snapped up by now so I'm hoping United have them on their radar.
I wouldn't write off the squad yet, don't go looking for 4 or 5 new (probably expensive) faces in before St Johnstone on Aug 1. Some considerations -
a) money is going to be tight, all over I reckon, the reality of this has to kick in soon, the economy could well be shattered. Football Academies are already shutting down. We do appear to be immune at the moment but the Ogrens aren't bottomless pits.
b) we still have the big squad that got us up & the kids are a year older. A league up is a challenge for all the players & no more Alloas on Friday nights. Players will rise to the challenge.
c) new broom sweeps clean, watch out for improvements in the players
d) camaraderie will be even better than it was, the players will love playing under Mellon
e) us - the fans are buzzing & we have our part to play when we get back in
So don't go screaming for new players, ok one or two maybe, but no wholesale changes. We can take our winning mentality with us.

We do not have a big squad.
Currently have a 1st team squad of 18 players.
But 3 of them are boys with just minutes under their belts or none at all (Glass, Mochrie, Freeman). And that's also including both our Goalies.
We can barely make up a starting XI and bench even allowing for a FULLY fit squad.
Madness not to make 3 or 4 signings in the next month.

I think if everything was normal we'd have those 3 or 4 players in already and preparing for the reason. Impossible for this legal shite to not have an impact. As unlikely as it is, do we want to be attracting players that are ok taking even a 1% risk of playing Championship football next year? It might be that our top targets have said they will sign but only once Prem status is 100% confirmed. I have no doubts we'll be in there but players have to look out for themselves I guess.

In the times today:The new Dundee United manager Micky Mellon has been promised funds to strengthen his squad despite the club’s money being drained away by legal costs in the court case and arbitration with Hearts and Partick Thistle.United co-launched a crowdfunding appeal to help meet their share of legal fees as they fight to defend their promotion, but Mellon has been assured by owner Mark Ogren and sporting director Tony Asghar that he will be backed financially if he wants to make new signings. United are back in the top flight for the first time since 2016.Mellon is in no rush to buy and his intention is to assess the squad he has inherited, although he may yet move into the transfer market.

Lots of truth in these & other considerations.
We might see 1 or 2 that got bullied in diddy division step up due to not being dragged down by shite (Alloa's on Friday night).
We don't want to be hanging out for changes come January.
Bottom line though: we need quality all round, we need to fly out of the traps Aug 1 with nucleus in place. Contrarily we need to be patient and let Mickey's vision bed in.
Mid table mediocrity might be acceptable for your Livi's your Ross County's and St Johnstone's.
No bones about it one of the considerations which has lured Mickey north - he wants Europe, no just us.
This is Dundee United here.

Actually there's 21 in our 1st team squad, well there's 20 on the Fishul which doesn't include Mochrie. Then I'm sure there are another 3 or 4 more Freeman/Glass/Mochrie types away to graduate. I think it's important to give kids a chance. There are some diamonds in there & you need your Appere types to get a chance.
Yeah we're 4 years out of the top flight & we're going to get some sort of culture shock regardless of how many squad players we have but I would not be setting my sights on Europe. More realistically I'd bite your hand off for 6th but being outside that, 7th, 8th or 9th, would be first season back success for me. The season after - top 6.
