Seems Tommy Wright isn't even under consideration which i find strange (unless he's outright said he's not interested).

Out of the named candidates it has to be McLaren for me.

Be a big coup for the club, would raise our profile U.K. wide and would help us attract a better standard of player due to McLaren being a household name in footballing circles.

He would surely have a wealth of great contacts also.

Agree with every word. If we manage to appoint him it would be something else. Compo for Neilson then replace him with Steve McClaren? Fucking hell.

Re: Who would you want as new Manager?

It's been a long day speculating and as we hit the scratcher I reckon it's developed into a 3-horse race.
(That's unless the guy that gets it isn't even listed anywhere which isn't impossible).
So Mackay, Wright, McClaren - may the best man win.
But I must say the prospect of landing an ex-England manager is awesome.
Great name too, pity he canna spell it right

Re: Who would you want as new Manager?

Folks, just in case he gets the gig, it's McClaren.

McLaren,  yes great coup.
Also same article Joe Hart holding talks with Celtic - wouldn't that be another big coup.

I agree with the MSPs at the time he got the Scottish Development gig that he shouldn't of been given that position. Therefore I have drafted an email that will be sent to the club & SLO & to express my feelings and asking them what refund policies are in place which will be sent if he is appointed.

As stated, if Asgar appoints him and it goes badly wrong then Asgar will need to be shown the door. We are a community/family club - this is not what we need.

I respect those who disagree with my moral stance.

I dinnae think theres anything in the terms and conditions saying you can get a refund because you dont like any potential manager.

Re: Who would you want as new Manager?

ASGHAR not Ashgar
If you need a mnemonic G comes before H in the alphabet.

Anyone name some mnemonics?
From my skale daze I recall -
HOMES - the Great Lakes
ROYGBIV - the colours of the rainbow
Men Very Easily Make Jugs Serve Useful Necessary Purposes - the order of the planets from the Sun outwards

Think the pending announcement is affecting me?!?!

Here we are locked in a 3-horse race for the most crucial DUFC managerial appointment ever since the  last one & you're discussing the merits of Forster v Hart!
Benji's better than both of them anyway

Re: Who would you want as new Manager?

Wright now edging through as a favourite with the bookies but not much between Wright, McClaren and Mackay.

For me I'd say McClaren is the obvious choice in terms of potential quality. Wright the safe pair of hands. Mackay a risk off the field but potentially great on the park.

Re: Who would you want as new Manager?

Ive never been 100% sure on Wright for some reason but would have him.

Every manager is a risk thats football.

I just hope we have someone in place within the next 48 hrs

Re: Who would you want as new Manager?

Wonder if it'll be some left field appointment, with us all thinking it's a stick on for McClaren or Wright (obviously hope Mackay is out of it)? But like bowers says..............

bowers wrote:

By the way, I had already contacted the club yesterday, but wouldn't expect a refund anyway, as b&t points out.......................

Mind you, if we're talking about sticking to club policy, why the fuck do we get lectured by tannoy at the start of each match about unacceptable behaviour (repeating the club policies available on the official website)?

Actions speak louder than words, that's the proverb, isn't it?

Re: Who would you want as new Manager?

IMO i think Tony Laura and others will have been monitoring social media over the past 2 days gauging a reaction on Mackay and will fuck him off sadly.

Re: Who would you want as new Manager?

There is of course a danger that all of these names are bollocks and we end up becoming a bit of a laughing stock.  Next it'll be the boy Mer Total current manager of FK Enscheidt

Re: Who would you want as new Manager?

ROSS TOKELY. Got to be. He's gone from 22/1 to 4/1 to 12/1 to 20/1 in the space of a day.
BUT.... there was a guy on Fb knows him & got in touch with him but he didn't know the first thing about it.
So Ross Tokely it is....

I'll be gutted if we don't appoint McClaren now. I really want to hear his Scottish accent!

Agreed, couldn't give any less of a fuck than I do about Celtic, their keeper or what colour their shite is 👍

Re: Who would you want as new Manager?

After closer scrutiny I'm having 2nd thoughts about SM.
I mean is a high-profile shite (4 sacks in a row) manager really any better than a lower-profile shite manager?
I actually doubt he can bring anything to the table. That he's an ex-England manager (sacked of course) won't please the fans if he picks up a 25% win record at Tannadice.

United 0 St Mirren 2. Yeah but he used to manage England.

Strachan, Robbo or Yogi - get a wee Scot in.

Re: Who would you want as new Manager?

2 of his clubs as mentioned by somebody else) are basket cases. Mike Ashley doesn't fund newcastle in line with the rest of the Premier league. QPRs owners are also hard work with 21 manager changes in the last 10 years (as a side note john eustace was his assistant at qpr). At qpr, he didn't spend any money on transfers whereas those around him bought multiple players. Not to say he's brilliant but he's not terrible either.

On checking, the season he won the Dutch league, he received more for transfers than what he spent. Given the choice of mcclaren or mckay, I'll pick mcclaren every time. I'd like somebidy like daly or robson in as assistant who knows the scottish game better though

What odds on mckay having the typical sfa/largs mentality, similar to ray mckinnon? Also, i don't know what mckay has done as 'performance director' other than the project brave thing. Not to say he hasn't done a load of good but I just don't know what it is.

I'd say mckay may be picked due to the youth side of his career ie getting them up into the first team, then punted for cash - that's the ogrens MO, so makes sense they would try to exploit that

Re: Who would you want as new Manager?

After even closer scrutiny he's really shite!
His wicki reads like an obituary.
He's been sacked more times than he's been appointed.
He'll have no knowledge of Scottish football, he's maybe sitting outside the Dump right now not realising there's two clubs in town.
Sorry Steve, you don't need the money, off you pop.

So that just leaves the Perth Fermir, Tommy Wright.

Re: Who would you want as new Manager?

It has to be McClaren. He is the outstanding candidate in terms of coaching calibre. I expected Smedz after closer scrutiny you would see how much of a respected coach he is and what success he's had during his career. Or were you just searching 'McClaren sacked'? Yes the most recent ones dont make for the best reading but these were in the English Premiership and Championship, with the best will in the world, no other manager in Scottish football has or would do any better than he did at that level?

Re: Who would you want as new Manager?

You look at  Jack Ross , Given all the plaudits here for his managerial style and ability, Hibs doing well under him and did well at St Mirren, however you look at the disappointment he was at Sunderland, well backed in league 1 and still didn’t get them promoted so I’m no gonna dispel McClaren after having had a hard time at a few other basket case football clubs in England.

For me if we were to get him and Daly or Robson in to be mentored then I too am in.
