I think overall Neilson did what we needed him to do, it wasnt pretty at time but we got back to where we should be as a club and I'll always appreciate that even if the way he left leaves a very sour taste.
Good stats LEK & can't argue.
Can I throw this in here even if I'm repeating myself.
Won ONE of his last NINE games.

When he came to United I was over the moon, then when I think
about some of the performances, a lot of the victories were hard going
but were victories, not great entertainment, victories. Can't think of
too many games where we totally dominated with fast flowing football
but he has got us where we should be.

He has obviously got us back where we should be and no one can argue with that. 1 win in 9 games would be potentially sackable at other clubs dependant on league positions.
Think he has done a decent enough job overall, dont think he would have lit the league on fire next season but i do believe he would have kept us up. Can see a little how Hearts fans got annoyed at the style of play at times, particularly in the games towards the end of the season. Better managers out there however - just need to wait and see if we can appoint one.

I'd argue it, without Shankland we would still be in the Championship. Ogren more responsible for our promotion than Nielson

The Shankland stuff, true. He did paper over the cracks.
However, we are up. Neilson led us up. He just didn’t fancy phase 2 of the rebuild. And if it’s true that he was plotting his getaway in November, then we are well shot.
We move on.

Agree with above, either planning to bolt from November, or taking two hours to be persuaded to go......obviously no where near enough commitment for our club. Good riddance and maybe further down the line we'll think we've dodged a bullet....
Totally agree with comment that Shankland was the difference. For me we have played poor football over the last five seasons. I would add the paisley playoff as another horrendous neilson performance. His legacy is the team we have which i think is far removed from being good enough to survive in the SPL.

By the sounds of it, Neilson was sounded out as Hearts manager before they appointed Stendel. Sounds to me as though he's told Hearts to wait until we were promoted. He could have pissed off halfway through the season and left us in the lurch a wee bit so, if that's true, then Neilson must be given some credit for that.
Being honest, I was fairly happy with Neilson and I don't particularly grudge him moving on for (probably) higher wages and going to a team that he has an affection for. If we get the next appointment right, then he'll be forgotten fairly quickly.
Now that's what you call tapping up 👍
