Imo a center midfield to compliment Butcher is the number 1 priority, someone who can dominate a game with the ball (box to box).
Did anyone else we were powder puff in midfield without Butcher? Would be interesting to see the stats.
Fingers crossed that either of the Americans can come good but I never seen enough of it last season.
Against Partick in Powers debut, we were over run for the first 20 minutes, relying on Benji. Whether it was the team coming into the game that helped Powers, or Powers coming into the game that hlped the team i'm not sure but from then on, he strolled it and looked like exactly what we needed. I missed Hibs away but was told he was excellent.
He had a few off games that I did see. He seemed to push Butcher out of position which upset the rest of the teams natural flow but if those two can strike up a partnership, I think it forms a good base. With Harkes extension, I don't think it will be Robbie's priority, rightly or wrongly.

Neilson hasnt mentioned centre midfield in any of the interviews so far. It has always been wingers, defenders and a striker. As much I'd like reinforcements in all positions, Butcher, Powers and Harkes with Glass, Mochrie, Clark all being able to play in an attacking midfield role, I cant see us signing any centre mids this summer.

I thought the window opened last Tuesday, the 9th, MockChop. Some clubs have announced signings already, from other clubs.

Shrewsbury apparently interested as well but with the player indicating he wants to stay in Scotland we are in prime slot to sign him. We will probably up our offer a bit if we need to but they won't be able to hold out forever, and their chairman hoping he will see out his last year and leave for nothing next year? Not gonna happen

250k is an incredible offer to put in for someone in these circumstances. No doubt a sell-on % on that too. Dunfermline would be daft to reject but will no doubt try to squeeze a little more out of United. It makes him look silly that he apparently rejected 600k from us in Jan.... because there is no chance we'll go that high again.

I'd be very concerned if it were true we had offered £600,000 for Nisbet in January, LEK. That seems very much over the top for a player who had, at that point, half a season in the Championship and a handful of top league appearances (and no goals) where he failed to shine at Thistle earlier in his career.
As an aside, he came on for Thistle at Tannadice for the last seven minutes in the 3-3 game v Thistle when we were relegated, and has played for Ayr against us too a couple of times. Had to look that up, 'cos I can't really recall him prior to Raith at all.

Amidst a' the Nisbet clamour what's the story wi' the young Finnish laddie ?
To state the (very) obvious you can have 'a the guid strikers you like but they're limited without wingers.
. .... Thinking on that you wonder how many Shankland would have scored last year with 2 natural wingers ?

If we manage to get this lad for 1/4 million it’s quite a statement of intent from us, when was the last time anyone outside the old firm paid a fee for anyone?
Big gamble and hopefully the lad can handle the pressure.

I can see us having to pay around £350k with a player or 2 chucked in. Cammy Smith / Adam King / a youngster needing 20/25 games

I think a player would sweeten the deal but are any of these players going to be ok with not playing any competitive football until mid-October at the earliest? Adam King a good shout though. I dont even think Cammy will be with the club during pre-season if I'm honest. Can sign a pre-contract with someone now so I suspect he'll stay over in Ireland - is their football back any time soon?

Agreed. As much of a good influence as I'm sure he is on the squad and young players, if he sses himself as a winger than I'd have McMullan, Chalmers and Appere before him. If he sees himself as a number 10 I'd have Clark, Glass AND Mochrie before him at this stage. I really hope he is just a squad player next season or we will pay for it. He is too ineffective for me.

And me. He's done.

I would be happy with Pawlett going also whether it be to Dunfermline as part of the deal or anyone else. He will be on an attractive salary at Utd and struggled last season.
Hopefully we can get the deal over the line soon for Nisbet

Heard that Pawlett’s weekly wage isn’t a kick in the balls off what Shankland’s getting. No danger anyone else will go near what we’re paying him.

Fucking scandalous if true, but not surprised to hear it. If we gave him to them on loan we'd still be paying the bulk of his wages anyway. All hypothetical of course cos there's no way Robbie is going to let him go anywhere.

Dinna forget the hoose in the Forbes of Kingennie we bought him.

I wouldn't be as harsh on Pawlett. It's all about injuries, this will be his last chance to still be a footballer, if his body is not ok are after a 12 wk lay off he is finished.
He does have ability though but will he show it or join Sow in the knackers yard?

Info I had from someone who I know to know these things is Shankland’s on 4.3k basic and Pawletts about 3.5.
I get why we signed him, but he’s far too injury prone and inconsistent to justify they kind of wages.

Robbie's love child to Pars - very good call.
