When will we be inside Tannadice again?

When does everyone think the most likely date for a return to 'mass gatherings' being allowed?

So many opinions out there that football fans wont be permitted into stadiums again this calendar year which would be devastating.

One thing I've been thinking about is would the government allow football matches to go ahead in stadiums later on in the year where social distancing could be adhered to at some level? For example, I'd say about 3 Tannadice seats worth is a good enough level of social distancing between fans - could the matches go ahead with home fans only and have them spread all around the stadium? Not ideal but would maybe allow around 3000 fans inside Tannadice for the matches which would most likely be a big chunk of the number of season ticket holders we'd manage if there is no clear date when fans can return to football.

Rules in place around mandatory use of face masks, stock up on the anti-bac hand gel, nae hugging yer mate when we score. I'll take anything at this point.

Re: When will we be inside Tannadice again?

Impossible to implement social distancing in a stadium.  Public toilets for a start, never mind the folk squeezing past for a pie.  Also seats between would need to be up and down aswell as across, nowhere near 3000 getting in at that.

Can’t see games with a crowd until there’s a vaccine tbh.  Possibly if test, trace, isolate gets up and running properly (like it should have been since February) and starts making a real impact we might get something sooner.

Re: When will we be inside Tannadice again?

I made a bold prediction on an inferior forum when the Lockie Doonie was only into its 2nd week.
The first Saturday in January 2021.
Just call me Nostradamus.

If I'm not wrong God knows how we'll survive mind...

Re: When will we be inside Tannadice again?

SmedZ i think it will be 2021 before we are all allowed inside Tannadice.

Can't say i have much (any) enthusiasm for next season at the moment.

The game is nothing without the fans.

Re: When will we be inside Tannadice again?

I think  possibly sooner than many people think.  This is moving quickly once people start going back to work, once the schools go back, once people stop contracting the virus( nobody in London today).
I'll go for October

Could all hinge on this Oxford vaccine trial. (and any other trials)

SFA/SPFL to ask for football to resume on the 1st August. Obviously this means behind closed doors. But a first step to getting back to football.

Out of interest - whats everyone opinion on watching United playing behind closed doors?

Re: When will we be inside Tannadice again?

My opinion, for what it's worth, is that we might be able to attend games by taking turns.

In other words, you go to the game 1 week in 3 or 4 or something like that, and the guy beside you goes a different week. I agree it's kinda crap if you've bought a Season Ticket, but it's better than no getting to any games at all.

Re: When will we be inside Tannadice again?

I think the first steps will be Tannadice being maybe a quarter full or one third full. People will say "how can you do physical distancing in a football stadium' but it will get to the stage where its about taking slow, necessary precautions to get things back to normal. You open the whole stadium, no away fans and the club gives specific seats to each fan with 2 or 3 seats empty between each supporter. You dont sell any food or drink for the first little while. Yes, there will be occasions where we are 'too close' to someone else, but by August/September (hopefully if no 2nd wave) the numbers are so low that contracting anything becomes very unlikely.

It's not ideal, but its better than nothing.

I'm thinking, this probably won't cause as big of an issue across the road 😂

I don't think fans will be allowed into Scottish grounds until social distancing ends.

Social or physical distancing wont end for a very long time imo. It will still be something that is talked about this time next year, but things will get back to semi-normal in my opinion which will allow fans back into grounds.

Re: When will we be inside Tannadice again?

If they reduce social distancing to one metre we'll get 7,000 in Tannadice.
That's one person in every 2nd seat.

It's a load of shite btw, tokenism in the extreme.

Apparently there is gonna be 3 empty seats inbetween each fan and you can't sit directly infront or behind a fan.

So they will all be dotted about.

Not sure how many fans that means we can cram in tbh.

Maybe about 3000 odd dotted around the stadium.

If we sell more than 4,000 season tickets the club may have a problem on their hands in that regard.

Fuck knows how clubs like Celtic will police it with 50,000 season ticket holders.

Premiership teams allowed to commence training on June 11th with a view to start season August 1.

Maybe now we will see some movement in terms of transfers...

By my maths (and its not the best) if you have to leave 3 seats free then that would mean a quarter of the stadiums seats will be out of action? 3500 would be the number of fans allowed in the stadium. Like you say, Tek, if we get any more than that then its a bit of a nightmare for the club. But time will tell I guess. This might be a catalyst for some to purchase a season ticket that were undecided.

Re: When will we be inside Tannadice again?

Social distancing at a football stadium is a bit silly tbh, all the fans in the ground are going to be patient and keep their distance after the final whistle?
I don't think so.

Re: When will we be inside Tannadice again?

I wasn't being negative earlier on today when I wrote "I don't think fans will be allowed into Scottish grounds until social distancing ends."

In a wild uneducated guess, I'm going to say that by September we'll be able to go into grounds to watch games, without social distancing. Things may move at a pace now, and I don't see the logic in thinking workplaces and schools will be operating properly with social distancing being put into use in even the medium term. By the time three months have passed, which is the end of August, life will be getting back to what we have become accustomed to. If people are using trains, planes and automobiles to get from place to place in groups, why shouldn't supporters be able to attend football matches in usual numbers?

Social distancing will be a distant memory.

Take note: I'm not a scientist

I'm with you there Pat.  From August they will start packing them in in the schools where it is totally impossible to distance.
I've said it for a few weeks now. From October well be back at Tannadice as long as we stay alert.

Having read the guidance for schools re-opening, and yes it’s early, you’re way off the mark with this.  We’re looking at kids either having a 2 day week or week on/ week off to limit numbers.  Only the youngest kids will be allowed to break social distancing, but only in a small defined group, that can’t change.  They’re also looking to convert halls/leisure facilities/council office space if possible to create more education space so kids can be spread out more.

It may change quickly, hopefully, but I think we’re a long way from that tbh.

1 person in every 2nd seat is nowhere near 1metre.

Re: When will we be inside Tannadice again?

The Shed, the guidance for schools has been drawn up by COSLA officers who have little to no experience of the realities of school life.

I know some teachers post here, and I'd be interested in what they think of the snippets released to the media regarding the plans. But generally, think corridors, toilet requests, forgetfulness (real and wilful), just for starters.

For some pupils, it'll be a new way to misbehave.

But back to the football: September is my guess for mass gatherings.

You can read all the guidance you want but I can assure if schools are to open there will be very limited social distancing.  classroom are too small to have 2m distancing.   I can also assure you no other spaces will be converted into teaching areas.  For a start there is not enough teachers for this and no new money available.  2 day weeks will not last long as parent's will have childcare issues.
