Can you ever remember a Utd signing having such an impact?

As Lawrence Shankland? I honestly don't think I can.

Kjell Olofsson and Billy Dodds spring to mind, in terms of improving the team instantly and looking like they would score for us often.

And, obviously, we are in the 2nd tier now, but the lad just looks like scoring one, two or three goals every week.

He's gonna be the talk of British football if he keeps up this scoring form.

An absolutely incredible footballer. Would be devastated if he was to get hurt and absolutely the right decision to hook him fifteen minutes from time yesterday. In cotton wool till Friday please.

Kjell maybe, only one springing to mind in my life time and probably more so than Shankland being it was in the top division. Hes been absolutely superb, just moght be the difference for us when all said and done

He's been absolutely superb, but part of me wishes we had shown some ambition and signed super Kane Hemmings instead though, gutted! 😂😂😂

Going back a bit, but Eamonn Bannon and Willie Pettigrew had a huge impact but not sure it was as instant as Shankland's.

The only way I’ll like him is if he scores a hat trick. Me before Dodds'debut

It's not where you're from it's where you're at.

Re: Can you ever remember a Utd signing having such an impact?

Dodds is the only one I think, Kjell had some great players around him and there were three of them who steadied the whole team, defence, midfield & attack.

Shankland will go on to bigger and better things, not before May though, May 2021 at the very earliest.

Re: Can you ever remember a Utd signing having such an impact?

Probably not.
Tho a wee caveat sorry, we are in tier two.
Nevertheless an amazing impact that has all worrying how long it will last one way or t'other.

Willie Pettigrew, no coincidence that we started winning things when he came, a great finisher.

Shankland is still young but has the potential to go a lot further, and the more he scores the more confidence and belief in himself only augers well for us.....while he's here.

Re: Can you ever remember a Utd signing having such an impact?

I'd love to think that we get promoted this year and get a year out of him in the top flight. However, if a very good bid came in, unfortunately he would be away. I wonder if his contract is quite complex in terms of promotion etc. I'm sure he'll have some kind of release clause if we dont go up this year. As long as its not lower than £1m then I can understand. The guy is clearly miles ahead of everyone in this league and needs to playing at least Scottish Prem football next year. I just hope its with us.

As for the original post, no. Never. What an impact.

Dodds never scored a hat trick on his debut.  He scored it in his first start. His debut was week earlier , coming on as a sub .good hatrick tho . Right foot left foot and a header.

Re: Can you ever remember a Utd signing having such an impact?

I've mentioned it before but worth repeating, Lawrence Shankland was born on exactly the same day as my daughter. Call me an old fish wife but I'm taking it as an omen lol

Agree. It’s like when we had Andy Robertson, just enjoy it whilst he’s here.

Re: Can you ever remember a Utd signing having such an impact?

when him & McMullan click, they can tear through any defence in the league (maybe even Ayr at some point please)

Re: Can you ever remember a Utd signing having such an impact?

Kjell Olofsson is one of my all time favourite united players, worth noting that he signed at same time as Pederson and Zetterlund, and together they had a massive impact.

Shankland is already being linked in the press with a move to Glasgow, depressingly predictable

Talking about Scandinavian invasions you would have wanted to be around when Dossing, Persson, Wing & Berg hit Tannadice in the mid/late 60s.

OMG what a transformation that made! Not being unkind to Kjell & Co but the 1st Scandinavian invasion made twice or thrice the impact. The Jerry Kerr stand should have Viking horns sticking out the top

Re: Can you ever remember a Utd signing having such an impact?

Forgot Finn Seemann. He was part of the Viking invasion mid/late 60s.
Apologies to the poster on here who bears his name.
Tragically killed in a RTA in his native Norway aged just 40.

The impact FINN DOSSING #9 made was enormous. He of the hat-trick in the Dens Park Massacre of 65. I was lucky enough to be there & I will never forget it.
I maintain that game was the day the tide turned in our city.
