Appéré - Yes, obviously. Though his form will fluctuate like all young players. And there will be times we need to manage that.

Think it's a season too early for Banks and Chalmers to really push for first team football.

Other than that there's no-one.

Declan Glass is ripping it up at Cove Rangers.

That he is. But i meant ready to help the first team NOW.

Don't agree, given the number of January signings that are no longer with us, it is pretty clear that January was as much panic as restructuring.  Who is left?  Pawlett (won't be fit for a whole season), Butcher (admittedly a good signing), Reynolds (another key signing that won't be fit for a whole season), Harkes (good signing, but not quite the finished article), Connolly (I actually like, but may others don't) and Smith (not really been given a proper chance).  Now Sow, Nesbitt, Gomis, Laidlaw and Seaman (half those brought in) have all gone along with a number of other more established players shipped out at that time.  So from January the key signings were only Reynolds and Butcher - important, but not it turns out the full restructure in my opinion.  Add to that Shankland and Smith this summer we are getting closer to that restructure but as others say we are 2/3 players from looking like the team we need to ensure winning the league and virtually a whole team away from the team we will need if we do get that promotion.  This sounds overly pessimistic (and it is not meant to be) but clearly Mr Ogren (perhaps sensibly) is wanting to see the numbers justifying themselves.

Re: Ins/Outs before Tuesday 2nd September - Prediction thread

Then gomis and laidlaw were never signed to last any longer than the summer - they were cheap back up which allowed us to use the budget elsewhere - the same with seaman too.

So your point of 5 players signed weren't good enough (maybe not your point but how it was perceived) looks less strong when you consider 2 out of 11 signings didnt work out...

I'd say the recruitment at united has been decent without being startling. Smith solid. Shankland a star in the making. King and sporle are unknown quantities but with the latter, he is trying to learn a new language as well as trying to learn a new style of football...it will take time but hes certainly got enough pedigree to assume he has ability.

I see your point but not totally convinced.  Why let Deniz leave to take Laidlaw if it was just til the summer?  Why take Gomis at all - he was clearly finished at this level.  We persevered with Sow but were very quick to release our first signing, Nesbitt, who I thought was a tidy enough player.  Seaman I'll admit was a short term signing.  The point was that January was not the major restructure that some claim and I think this close season should have offered more.  Shankland and Smith get a big tick, the jury is out on Sporle and King, we've played in another youngster and have a couple in the background, but we are using one player (Butcher) as either the best CH or the best CDM.  if nothing else we needed to strengthen there and that is why the Frans departure is a bit odd without a replacement.  Of course, maybe there is still business to be done, but if not our business looks a bit light.

Deniz was sent out to get games which he wasn't going to get if he stayed here. Agree about Butcher

I can't help but feel I'm being too pessimistic, but I can't see past the fact that a couple of injuries and we won't look nearly as good as we have started.  I also didn't think the Dees were that bad.

Certainly looks that way. If he isn't to be involved against Arbroath on Saturday then he is almost certainly finished at the club.

This leaves us so light though. The club must bring in 2 or 3 players now.

One player I can’t believe we never went for was Dario zanatta look at him for second goal, was always so impressed by him at allow! One missed imo free transfer to partick is a great signing

To be fair, when he was available we had Shankland, Appere, Clark and Sow on our books all vying for 2 places in the first 11.

Oooooohhhh yeeeeeaaaaaah!!

Re: Ins/Outs before Tuesday 2nd September - Prediction thread

We need another centre half in the squad imho. I'm not too worried about the striker situation on the other hand. We've got Shankland, Appere, Clark plus Cammy Smith and Pawlett as number 10's/second strikers.
Still suspect that Frear might be here by Saturday and might be involved.
