Never heard anyone say Dow was a striker, but regardless, I'm not sure why you've got a hard on for Matty Smith not being a striker?

'hard-on'?

Just an observation on what I've seen from him thus far.

It's not just an observation though, you're snidely stating that there were people who said that Dow was a striker and they were wrong, likewise by me stating that Matty Smith is a striker I am wrong.

It's really not import and it's derailed the thread but regardless of what you think, and even what type of player he may become in the future, today - Matty Smith is 100% a forward.

That's not my opinion, that's his history as a footballer and where his manager thinks he will play for United so I'll leave it at that.

Infact if anything i see him as more of a wide player who likes to get to the bye-line (albeit I've only seen the boy play 3 times).

Matty Smith is a forward, thats his position.

People can question the quality of our strikers but we've got four, three just signed and one promoted from the devs and I can't see us adding any more.

The injuries up front have been really unlucky so far but we only play one up top so will be well covered, in numbers anyway.

We need another winger, if King and McMullan get injured we're back to square one, missing the width and delivery we've been blessed with this season.

We've four main strikers (Keatings, McDonald, Smith and N'Koyi) and six first team central midfielders (Briels, Stanton, Flood, Fraser, Allardice and Murdoch as cover)

As well as Brad Smith and Logan Chalmers knocking on the door.

It's width where we're short of cover IMO, that and a centre half would be great.

I think both full back positions could be strengthened but not as a priority, we don't concede many goals.

I enjoyed that, we should have been 2-0 up early in second half then it's a totally different game, we were hanging on at the end but over 90 mins I think a draw was a fair result.

I really like the keeper, he made a few mistakes but every time he did he sorted it, he'll get better every game I think, I like a keeper who comes and takes command of his box, yeah he missed one or two but his judgement will improve with experience.

Thought Toshney was as good as I've seen him yesterday, not great by any means but stayed on his feet and done the basics well.

Durnan and Edge were good, though as someone else said, looking back over highlights the Edge is all over his man at corners and will get punished for that.

Thought Scobbie did well, few well timed tackles up against their best player, agree with Slateford I can see him at left centre back rather than left back.

I like Briels but he was quiet yesterday I thought, Fraser too, I'm a big fan of his but terrific pass for our goal apart I can't remember anything from him yesterday, Allardice put himself about but was caught out of position too many times for me, another one with real promise though.

I thought King, McMullan, and particularly Stanton were superb, the interchange of positions and passing between them from 15-60 mins was really good and up against slower, less talented players in the Championship they will do very well I think.

Happy with what I've seen so far and confident for the league campaign ahead.

FTD.

God (and Ray) knows who will play up front tomorrow.

McDonald will start on the bench.

All our other strikers are injured, including Matty Smith.

I think we'll win the league comfortably but expect the top four to be completed by Inverness, Dunfermline and one outsider who I'll say will be Livingston.

Looks like Ray doesn't want to risk Paddy or Durnan before the derby, surprised by that tho, perfect opportunity for N'K to get his first goal.

Matty Smith, Scobbie and Fraser in for Durnan, Keatings and N'Koyi.

I'd like us to start with Durnan and Edge in the middle and hopefully be 3-0 after an hour and push Durnan up top, take of Paddy after his hat-trick and give Scobbie and Edge 30 mins together.

I'd go Bowers team with whoever Ray sees as first choice keeper in nets, changes after an hour if we're comfortable with the same starting team ready for Dens next week.

Agree with that JD, maybe plan A was to get him in November, get him in and settled and register on January 1st but Keating being out has changed that surely?

What's the point in taking a punt on someone's else until we can get him for free when £50k max would get him now?

That's assuming he is our number 1 target and not just pish fae the S*n.

I couldn't find that option Bowers and when I was moaning to family about it on the day of the game they said the same, that they had to pay for service and delivery despite picking the tickets up.

Cannae mind for sure but think it was £6 for service and normal delivery, but the Hamilton game was ticket collection only but I still had to pay the same delivery charge.

I think I've only used it once, Hamilton play off, but it was perfect on my android phone, easy to select seat and complete transaction.

Charges are way over the top but that's pretty standard.

I think we'll win 3-0 too.

Paddy has to score at least one today, very early days of course but he has been brutal and through no fault of his own he's our only striker for the foreseeable, needs to get off the mark today, there won't be an easier opposition at home this season.

When I watched him miss that early chance at Montrose then follow that up with more offside decisions than touches over the next couple of games I got the fear.

Soaking pitch today so no excuses about sticky, dry, slow, patchy, long grass whatever the fuck Ray says has stopped him scoring thus far.   He's slower than a week in the jail but the Blue Brazil are pish, fuck it, he'll get two today and a standing ovation....

Agree mate, the day I worry about playing Dundee is the day I give up on football, was just laying it out as I see it.

I think we'll win comfortably tomorrow, 3-0, and go to Dens with no pressure, a big shed following and come away with a minimum 2 points.

Think we'll go as strong as possible tomorrow and try and get another two or three goal winning margin.

A win tomorrow should put us through, a win by 3+ goals almost definitely.

If we go +8 or more goals after tomorrow's game it would take us getting hammered at Dens AND Dunfermline taking something at Tynecastle to stop us going though by my reading of today's results.

Nothing certain of course but it looks like the runners up of groups C, D, E and H will qualify for the next round to me.

Surprised Liverpool are letting this kid go, I thought it would be a season long loan to sweeten he deal.

If it's £8m up front rising to £10m United's cut will come from the £8m guarantee minus what Hull paid United for him.

10%+ of £5.4m, no idea how taxes work on this kind of transfer income but United will probably end up owing someone money after it's all gone through.

Good luck to Andy tho, I said after 6 months of seeing him that he and Armstrong would play for a team like Spurs or Liverpool.

I thought the same T6, fairly put on the weight as the season progressed.

I spoke to him after a match and he was saying that he commutes every day from Annan, he's from the area, his family are really happy there and wouldn't move while playing in Scotland.

Some shift behind the wheel every day, can't be good for you, and it looks like he's eating on the road a fair bit too.

I thought he started really well but like the majority of the squad he got progressively worse after the New Year.

Was in the shop this morning and this kit looks much better in the flesh.

Not great, and badge and shorts can still gtf but I ended up buying two home tops for my eldest two (mini kits for 5 and under not expected until September btw) when I went with the intention of buying the away tops.

Away tops are basically t-shirts with massive United badge on them.

Jeeze, that looks awful, sleeve, badge, shorts are terrible.

Typical that we get a "bespoke" kit that is worse than the catalogue version of the same.

The Nike Trophy iii (the template used) is available in safety orange with team orange sleeves which looks smart.
