Sure we wouldn't take that.
Scottish clubs have taken a down rated payment in general for far too long. English world are then surprised in general when players are no bad down south.
Andy Roberston, John McGinn, Oli McBurnie and others are highlighting a good value that bargain hunters will struggle tae do a Del Boy so easily in future I hope.
Even Septic are helping by fkn aff £25m fur Tierney.
We've done better than maist afore. Mair reason not to be sellin aff talent like Scott Banks at that shitey fkn price.

It depends.
The Ogren's have been very upfront about wanting to make money from DUFC. The Chairman has also been vocal (even in today's press) about not only having spent a lot of his own money in the club already but also about what the failure of promotion cost the club in terms of finance.
If the Banks fee was to get to say 500k with add-on's i reckon Scotty will be away.
Ogren's can then off-set...
1) Some of the clubs loss in revenue for 19/20
2) Some of their own personal expenditure
If Palace (or whoever) were to loan Banks back to us for a season it could be good business for all involved.
Can see this happening. The player quite fancies a move to a bigger club and was about to negotiate a new contract anyway as only has a year left

Only a year left...he'll be gone then you'd think - the loan back mentioned above would be a sensible step but would depend I guess on what Palace would see as the best route to develope him and their view of the Scottish Championship - suspect we might not see him again if he goes.
Could also be his agent trying to get more money from united

500k plus 20% addons plus year loan back anx he surely will be off with best wishes. Looks a talent but who knows if will make it.
Question to the poster on here who said after the EF defeat that Scott Banks being only 16 can get to fuck.
Half a million plus add-ons (forums are obsessed with add-ons) enough for you?
Seemingly nobody on here or anywhere else has as much as acknowledged him yet but all of a sudden we're in the know about how much we can get for him.
Despite never having seen him I gathered last season that he was an exceptional talent and I'd be totally sick if we don't get to see him for at least this season.

Am I old fashioned or is it crazy that a team is going to pay good money for a lad who has played only a few games at senior level?
Not doubting his ability or more so his potential but guess it's easy pickings for english teams - minimal outlay compared to the english market.
Hope we can convince him that the next few years should be at tannadice.
Out of interest, how are the other 2 who went down to england doing? 1 at Southampton and 1 at brentford( Coote?)
Edit Ali coote seems to be progressing. According to wiki, hes played a lot of reserve team football and is the b team captain. Hes trained with the first team
Edit 2: looks like Kieran freeman has had a tough time with injuries - an arti le on sfa website says hes had 3 bad ones including an ACL. No sign if hes been played

Freeman got a new contract.

This isn't aimed at anyone on here, but elsewhere I've seen chatter from some Arabs almost getting excited at the prospect of a decent transfer fee for a young, talented player. Have they learned nothing from recent years?
It's as if they think that all of any transfer fee will automatically be re-invested directly in the squad and that we'll strengthen significantly.
The Ogren's have thus far made a loss on United, I'd have thought they'd take any Banks fee and recoup some of their costs. None of us know, but in any case, there's just something not right about some Arabs being pleased to see a talented youngster leave United, almost 'celebrating' it.

Yep. It’s depressing when folk get excited about the club making money when it means the team losing talent.
Yes we have to as a support keep an eye on things to protect the club from financial suicide as best we can, but really I couldn’t care less how much money we make as long as we’re not at risk.

Not so long ago, we had unprecedented transfer income over several years. Look at where we are now.
But we got £X million for Andy Robertson. YAY!

Good points made above: I'm not a business man, and if United make money it has no effect on me.
I'll be delighted if the transfer window closes for England tonight and we can still make use of Scott Banks in forthcoming matches. And he should be playing, more.

For the laddies own development, he really is better off staying with us for not just the year left on his contract but probably 2-3 years (hopefully with 2 of those in the Premier League) before thinking about moving on. United should be saying this to him too instead of taking the first offer that comes in. You only have to look at how Robertson, Armstrong and now Tierney have done it and how it has helped their careers then contrast it with the likes of Scott Allan, Harry Souttar etc. who either failed or are still sitting in development squads wasting years of their career for an ok wage. They should show him Willo Flood's interview this week.
Unfortunately, I don't think these laddies look at this bigger picture. From experience in my job, younger people do tend to think that they are the bees knees and that they will be the exception to the rule, in this case in terms of being the one who goes down there at 17 and quickly makes it into the Premiership squad. Add in agents usually filling their heads with shite in order to make a quick buck and it's delicately poised whether he goes or stays I think. Hopefully Tony Asghar's experience from that side of the fence may convince him otherwise. It also would be interesting to hear what advice someone like Adam King might give him. He is the textbook case of this exact scenario.

I don't think Kieran Freeman or Ali Coote have really made meaningful progress either (although I've not monitored how they've been getting on so happy to be corrected if wrong).

The laddie hasn't played in any league games for us yet. He's in the last year of his contract so can walk away next year. 500grand is a fair wedge for someone like Banks.
Ideally if we sold him we could get him loaned back. He'd be better doing that than stuck in english clubs academy sides.
I'm not "celebrating it" but it's an offer the owners have to consider.
Maybe oor sporting director should have looked at this and made sure he wasnt sitting at tannadice with only a year left on his deal.

It’s one of those catch 22’s for the laddie himself, he goes now, earns a very decent wage even in their youth team and maybe makes the grade.
He can either stay with us, try and get a regular game this season and kick on to get 50-60 games under his belt, rip it up with us and then get a his move for more money for himself in 20mths time.
Willo’s interview last week really hit at this point of young lads needing to get those games under their belt.

English deadline day today.
Be interesting to see if Palace come back in. Or if Southampton bid.
One wonders what effect on Scott Banks this story will have.
It's bound to make him feel really good about himself.
The Head Coach - will he put him in the starting XI more often?
And us the fans, we've learned this week we have a half million pound player in our ranks. Is that like having a new expensive signing?
Do we really need the likes of Frear now?
It's funny, we're all 'owning' Scott Banks & we've barely seen him.
