Some positive thinking!!

Been having a little think to myself and decided to think positively in the wake of the negatively after the East Fife game.

Although Neilson hasn't came out and publicly stated he is writing the betfred cup off, might that have been the case?

Has he been running the boys into the ground during pre-season in a bid to address the lack of fitness last season? The lack of fitness which maybe just maybe stopped him implementing the high intensity closing down style we witnessed during his first couple of games in charge?

The players did look unfit/tired during the East Fife game but this could be down to tough sessions days leading up to the game or even on the day of the game.

A number of the younger players were also utilised during pre-season which was great to see but more often than not fans were wondering what the though behind many of his line-up was and why he wasn't playing his strongest 11. Is he maybe waiting for the Inverness game to take off the shackles, play out strongest team and play a more intense/quicker style of football?

I am as dissapointed as the next man with the performances in pre-season but I am really hopeful of a good performance against Inverness. Could Robbie saying he is happy with pre-season mean he is happy with how it went overall as in getting players to the level of fitness he wants them at rather than meaning he is happy with some of the betfred performances which could be explained by the points previously stated.

Before I get shot down in flames the subject of this thread is "some positive thinking" these points are nothing more than that.

Re: Some positive thinking!!

When it comes to social media and forums like this you will always get people who are overly positive and overly negative. Then some in the middle. The most important thing is that the 5/6000 Utd fans that show up on a Saturday encourage the players for the full 90 mins and dont get on their backs (unless we start taking a pumping them quite rightly they deserve abuse).

If the players have that confidence that the fans are behind them then they might just try that something extra that excites the fans and gets us off our seats.

Re: Some positive thinking!!

Agree with this. One bad result isn’t going to ruin our season, in fact it could be the wake up call required. Almost all of the other teams in contention for the championship title have suffered at least one poor result against lower league opposition too.

Our team is arguably as good or even better than it was in the second half of last season and during that period we were the best team from January onward, I don’t think that’s in question.

Most of the other sides are unknown quantities with new management and significant overhaul of the playing staff. Even Inverness, who have a fairly settled squad, have lost key players and have two players who were woeful for us as 2 of their key men.

It is important to start well this seasons though. Since we’ve been in this league and even prior to that when hearts and rangers were in the league, the team that started the season well and hit the top in the first month or two went on to win the league. We can’t afford to play catch up for another year so it’s vital that in an extremely difficult first month we look to pick up 10/12 points from our first four.

I think 8/9 points is the MINIMUM acceptable amount of points in our first 4 games. They are very tough games though so I can smell a defeat in there somewhere. As long as its not either of the homes that we lose.

Absolute scenes if we do 4/4 wins in August.
