So far.
Two of our better players away in Safranko and Bouhenna.
Poor close season results.
Couldn't get out of a Betfred group that included East Fife, Cowdenbeath, Stenhousemuir and (a poor) Hearts side.
Worst of all for me has been the recruitment. We have 3 men paid to recruit us players in Robbie Neilson, Tony Asghar and David Byrne (his sole purpose). We also employee Dave Bowman and Jordan Moore to scout and recruit players.
We had rumours of a link-up with Boca and getting some of their players.
But despite this we haven't done much business at all and the signings and players we are linked with just seem to be on the usual list of out of contract Scottish players. A list anyone on here could draw up and peruse over.
Shankland signing apart i have found it a depressing Summer from Utd. The main word i would use actually is uninspiring.
Maybe just me but i thought after the huge dissapointment of the St.Mirren matches we would really go for it and mean business this Summer window.
It just seems lazy recruitment.
Too much money spunked on unfit players in the January window in a vain attempt to guarantee promotion now coming back to haunt us
Still a bit of time before the window closes so you never know but not feeling to optimistic right now

Thing is though Scarps, a lot of the January signings are long gone.
Laidlaw
Seaman
Gomis
Nesbitt
If the lack of business this Summer is because the Ogren's decided to 'go for it' in January, then it leaves Neilson even more accountable in my book.

I struggle to not get a buzz at the start of any new season. I've got a fucking great feeling about Saturday. Definitely agree there are some disappointing aspects this summer though. Not getting out of the group being number 1.
Shankland is a fantastic signing. Liam Smith looks a very good signing. Adam King we know next to nothing about so he could still turn out to be a great bit of business. The less said about Sporle so far the better but he will get plenty time to settle.
Safranko still not got a club - could we?
Bouhenna played in the Ross County and Ayr pumpings last season. He was a decent midfielder and good on the ball but miles away from the type of defender we need week-in-week-out so I'm not losing any sleep over him going as long as we use the money to invest in the squad.

Give me safranko and a winger and I'll be a reasonably happy man.....add to that Robbie playing two upfront. One can only dream!!

Safranko and Shankland together up front is the stuff of wet dreams.

Theres a lot of things I'd say you can get depressed about. A close season isn't one of them.
I can get pissed off, annoyed , angry etc but depressed, nah.

Nielson would play safranko wide.

Guessing united are going to be known by agents/other clubs as a soft touch - desperate to get up and with what they will assume are sugar daddy owners. Whether this is or is nit true - prices go up when people assume you are loaded.....
I'm guessing this is why robbie is 'happy' with the squad - an attempt to make teams/players more realistic to what a scottish championship club can pay. (Feck - the Danes thought we were going to shell out a 1m signing on fee for safranko!

Don't really think it's been depressing in the least: the transfer window is open for another while, and I'm sure several changes have to take place in our squad and those of our rivals.
For me, the season starts on Saturday (or really Friday), and I am relatively optimistic about our prospects of promotion. Like many I find Robbie's approach too cautious, and would also alter the way he uses his personnel, but I doubt if my team choice would be the same as everyone else: this applies to most of us, we'd mostly pick different teams and find fault with other posters' choices.
Don't think it's going to be easy, but I don't see us blowing it this season, from the present perspective. So I'm far from 'depressed' about our chances.

Still plenty time to go in the window, the English window shuts three weeks earlier, so there will be plenty of boys surplus to requirements down there once they’ve sorted their squads out.
We’re still a Ball playing centre half, midfield general and a left winger short, potentially a striker too if we can offload Sow.
We’ll still be keeping tabs on Safranko, he obviously hasn’t drawn the interest Aalborg would’ve hoped, and going by the comments of their fans, he’s seen as a bit of a figure of fun across there. As we get closer to the window slamming shut, they’ll probably get more and more open to letting him go on loan again or on the cheap, if St. Mirren think they can get him, there’s no reason we can’t.

i think we can all admit we'd hoped for better in the summer. Was hoping for something of a complete revamp. Last season at this time I did think we had the best squad player for player in the league. Not sure if I reckon thats true going into this season.
Talk to me in 5 or 6 games on depression. It'll become clear very quickly if we're winning this league or not.

We are better in almost every position now than we were at the start of last year.

Shows you how wrong I was last year. I dont think looking at our squad there is any great leap forward position over position. Maybe Shankland, Harkes and Reynolds. Disagree with most on here I think RE Butcher. We'll know after first 5 or 6 games what we've got.

I agree with you. To me it looks like "jobs for the boys". Apart from Neilson, are the rest of them accountable.
I'll possibly get hammered for this, but, when your season boils down to penalty kicks and you take four and miss four, is it unfair to ask: Why has the Sporting Director not brought in someone who specialises in performance psychology? He extoles the virtues of learning from other sports.

This time last year id have told you that team on the left were the best in the division, player for player. Was completely wrong. Whereas we might be improved on last year, no giant leap forward imo and definitely not about to say we've best team player for player in the league

I would say we do. Whether Robbie gets the best out of them / they all stay fit is another matter.

Same uninspiring Manager. Uninspiring signings (so far, bar Shankland).
Performances in Betfred ranging from competent to diabolical.
I'm not sure how going into the new season that can't be deemed as anything other than depressing?
But then, i only speak for myself.

How would you describe this Summer window, in United terms?

Here is hoping mate. A good start and we'll all be buzzing.

I’m sure every fan of every team is feeling the same at the moment. Unless they have destroyed everyone in the cup games. That isn’t the case and im sure the Dee fans are concerned about their manager and having loads of new players. ICT have not been great, Ayr are rebuilding and we’ve taken two of their best players off them. You could go on and on.
We just need to hope Neilson will stop being so bloody minded and will have a go in games and we can get another 2/3 players in and out things might seems more positive if we get off to a decent start.
There is the opposite to this but let’s not go there 😳
