Poor defending cost us both goals although the guys finish for the 1st was excellent. The 2nd I think the keeper should've got it, but it don't matter a jot.
A lot of sideways passing between the back 4, for the 1st half, I thought was partly due to the low sun and the guys at the back no being able to see the runs, but no, I was wrong about that, as it continued in the 2nd half.
That must be 1 of the biggest victories for East Fife ever. Dinna think they've beat us by more than 1 goal since the 50s. Disna metter now anyhow.
On it's own, Its not sackable stuff, but truly shocked by the 2nd half performance and the result. Wish I'd stiyed in Colchester another week.

Not much else to say other than a disgrace of a performance.

I will be very surprised if he is still our manager come October

Do you think he'll get us promoted?? Not a chance in hell with that team.

The result in itself is poor, but Robbie's signings haven't convinced me in the slightest. Only Butcher gives us something different/better.
His tactics also don't give me confidence, and, whether hopeful or prophetic I mentioned Clark leaving the club.
Cannot understand why Robbie thinks he's a player to unlock defences. But that's just one of my concerns, there are others.

Yep I do, I’m trying to stay positive this year, being negative is sending me bald

More fool you then.
We're 4 players and a decent manager away from going up.
Need a left back
Centre back
Creative midfielder
Winger
Manager

To be fair Billy East Fife were pretty damned decent.
There will be worse performances than that from Championship teams coming to Tannadice this season.
How come they lost 2-0 to Cowdenbeath in their first game, they were miles better than that last night?
They're at home to Hearts on Saturday & Hearts had better play well if they're to win the group.
A 4th 2-0 scoreline for East Fife & it's Hearts who will be looking to be one of the 4 best runners-up.

Apparently the players are jaded!
It’s like a never ending repeat being a Utd fan these days. Start the season poor, continue that way, sign loads of second rate duds in January, sack the manager, finish season poor with new man in charge, give new manager chance to sign loads more duds, while struggling to dispose of January duds, then repeat. All while listening to the biggest pile of pish from these managers week after week.
I think it’s us fans who have a right to be jaded tbh, not full time professionals 4 games in.

Arabzone interview basically consisted of:
- not the levels we need to be at
- wake up call for players they need to be at it every game to win league
- rather it happened now than in league opener
- players looked jaded
- tough schedule recently, asked a lot of them
Some fair enough comments, but also some shite excuses. Jaded? Its a part time team ffs.

Thon Sporle is absolutely brutal, he’s gonna cost us big time if we persist with him. Boy has no idea where to be on a football pitch at any given time. Even when attacking, he wants to run inside into a sea of bodies rather than using the space down the line. He really is bizarre to watch.
We badly need someone to dictate the play in the middle of the park, otherwise these sort of results are gonna keep happening, the middle of the park ends up resembling a game of ping pong with out current lot. I don’t see what guys like Stanton and Harkes bring to the table for us.
McMullan’s should not be anymore than an impact player from the bench for us. He’d be a fine player for a team who are up against it 9 times out of 10, and need an outball, but for a team who supposedly want to be the boss team in the league, having a winger who can’t cross the ball is absolutely no use.
Our biggest hindrance though, I’m starting to believe is gonna be Robbie Neilson, thon banner the Hearts fans flew over Tynecastle is starting to make a lot of sense. When I watch us, I have no idea what the plan is, he’s got strikers in centre mid, strikers on the wing, strikers at number 10, a number 10 in the stand. He plays this horrible brand of sideways/backwards passing until the opposition puts pressure on us and we hoof it up to our 5”10 strikers.
There doesn’t seem to be any sort of cohesive plan other than hopefully having 11 players that are better than the oppostion’s, and hoping their quality sees them though. That’s not enough IMO, and if we do end up winning the league, it’ll be down to the poor standard of the league rather than anything we’ve done. Meanwhile these stupid results to the Alloas and the Arbroaths and the Mortons on the league will keep happening.

Its important to remember McMullan was probably our best player at the end of last season.
Doesnt take away the fact his crossing is horrific or that he was brutal last night... but he'll still be an important player for us this year.
Just please please please Paul, do some work on your final ball.

It has been the same for as long as we have been in this division, sideways slow build up that allows the opposition time to get all the players behind the ball and we struggle to break them down.
Teams are working out how we play as we never seem to change tactics or approach, two weeks ago we draw with East Fife they work out our structure and then come to Tannadice and beat us, it may have been an exceptional performance from them but did they work out our tactics and build from there?

Re McMullan - play him up front!
The best game he’s ever had for us was against County at the end of last season where he played up there. He also looked really good up there the first 5 or 6 games of his first season before he was sent off against QOTS.

If that showed us anything last night it was about individual players.
If we want to win the league
Siegrist tick
L Smith tick
Watson absolutely horrendous defender
Reynolds tick
Sporle - incredibly Robson is better
Butcher tick
Stanton the invisible man GTF
Banks looked every inch 17 last night not this season
McMullan- Apppalling crosser of a ball
Clark Worst No10 ive seen at tannadice
Shankland will score he probably hates playing beside Clark.
Overall 5 of the 11 are IMO opinion of the required standard. If we ever see a fit Sow and Pawlett I would add them to the 5 . That still leaves 4 starters needed. A big few weeks coming up for RN in the transfer market, His job will depend on it.

I agree with you on most of your player assessments but the fact remains, whether they’re good enough to win the league or not, each and every one of those players should be good enough to beat East Fife. That we didn’t, In my opinion, is entirely down to the manager, he’s simply not utilising the tools he has to the best of their ability. He persists with this nonsense of playing his attackers out of position, meanwhile the players who actually play in those positions are nowhere to be seen. It’s too far into our preparations for this season to be sacking him, but his stubbornness and complete lack of ability to deviate from Plan A, has McNamara/McKinnon written all over it.

2 good posts in a row I fully agree with. 2 key points for me are the lack of a controlling central midfielder (we saw the difference a fit Fyvie made to every team mate) and also round pegs in round holes.
The last 2 league winners played simple formations with players in the correct positions. They won the league comfortably with arguably worse squads than us.

Would agree with your point JD about the manager . East Fife had 3 CMs against our 2 now when 1 our our 2 is Stanton your f#$$ed. RN did nothing to combat that.
I forgot Connolly i would also give a tick.
As soon aa Clark went off the team looked better.
Possibly down to Appere who is clearly a better 2nd striker than Clark

I think Harkes should step up again so a tick there for me, although he isn't going to be the creative midfielder we need - hope King is which might be another tick.
We aren't getting another left back, so assuming King is the creative midfielder, then is all we can expect the mentioned winger and maybe another as cover for CH and Defensive Mid?
Even Willie Miller doesn't seem to be taking any delight in how crap we are - we are in danger of becoming insignificant. At least Ogren has to throw the 'another manager' dice once before he gets bored and bolts, assuming last night was any crystal ball for our season.
Depressing.

And once again in that match he missed 2 great chances and we blew it. McMullan seems to have the attributes of a premiership player but his quality on the ball is absolutely shocking. It’s genuinely pointless getting him on the ball because you know he’ll do fuck all with it every time.
