Re: Most Emotional Track Ever - Round 2/Game 4

Thank you for the numbers MockChop.

The 3rd match of Round 2 witnessed victory registered for the Radiohead track "How To Disappear Completely". This victory will ensure it's progression through to the Quarter Final stage of the tournament. The eliminated track on this occasion was 'Autumn Leaves' by Eva Cassidy.

Round 2/Game 4 -

The Smiths - Asleep

Released - 16th September 1985
Written By - Johnny Marr, Morrissey
Songs Background - The song has often been interpreted as Morrissey indicating his desire to take his own life. The song was only played live once, on the 1st October 1985 at Eden Court, Inverness, on the last date of The Smiths 1985 Scottish Tour. It was only played after a piano, that couldn't be moved off of the side of the stage, was discovered during soundcheck.

V's

Johnny Cash - Hurt

Released - March 2003
Written By - Trent Reznor
Songs Background - The song was originally written in 1994 by Trent Reznor, singer/lyricist with 'The Nine Inch Nails'. The song includes references to self harm and heroin addiction, although the overall meaning of the song is disputed. Some listeners contend that the song acts as a suicide note written by the song's protagonist, as a result of his depression while other listeners of the track claim that it describes the difficult process of finding a reason to live in spite of depression and pain.

Voting Closes Tomorrow (Monday 22nd July) AT 10PM

Re: Most Emotional Track Ever - Round 2/Game 4

This is the first round I really can't separate the songs.

I'll go with The Smiths, as it isn't a cover, although Johnny Cash's version of Hurt is especially poignant  given the recording being one of his last. Hurt is a better song, and the video, which includes June Carter who died the same year as Johnny, is one of the most moving of all time.

I expect 'Hurt' to win the round, but wouldn't want The Smiths to gain no points, however trivial that appears.
