On to the game!

Sporle big improvement, weird how rather than going outside winger he goes inside but it worked and that’s how he got his goal which was a absolute brilliant ball by shankland

The young lads will play a part this season, apeare and banks are excellent and chalmers has definitely got something about him, best batch of youth since gauld etc

Smith is a huge player for us this season at right back been really impressed by him so far

Shankland is more than a finisher than I thought he was tbh, his movement, pressing, touch, link up play are all brilliant, we’ve got a absolute gem of a player, well 100% make money off this boy

And another thing, we’ve been moaning about the slow build up play, see for instance if Reynolds has the ball instead of passing it to Connolly for then him to pass to smith it should be Reynolds straight to smith, would make the transition of defence to attack so much quicker

Re: Dundee United v Cowdenbeath - Fri 19/7/19 (7.45pm)

Not the highest intensity and game was over after the second goal but enjoyable none the less.

Shankland snatched at a couple of chances as he was obviously desperate for a goal and his header was excellent, really looking forward to seeing what he does when fully fit and the XI is more settled.

Defence was nervy at times but to give them their due they didn’t every look in too much danger.

Little for Deniz to do but alert and will hopefully help Benji to have some real competition.

Spörle will come in for some stick this season due to his positioning but he is rapidly becoming a favourite of mine, love seeing him attack and try to get on the front foot - will be important to see him up against opposition that we’ll be playing regularly.

Young boys (particularly Banks) looked good and Appere did well to capitalise on a tiring defence and took his goal well.

Butcher is also an absolute favourite of mine, such an important player, knows his strengths and his weakness and does so much dirty work that goes unnoticed - massive player.

Clark, although our of position, missed a couple of gilt edged opportunities but he was busy.

Stanton was ok and did look to get on the front foot, wouldn’t be in my personal best XI

All in all an enjoyable night and looking good to make the next round. Roll on East Fife and Shrewsbury!

This. Think teams may struggle to deal with his movement this year and having Butcher inside of him at centre mid gives him license to bomb forward knowing he’ll be protected. Also think ones he adapts to the culture and his English improves he’ll be a valuable player.

Absolutely. If it’s possible to go from A to C, we’ll categorically go from A to B then C. Dont know if it’s Robbie ensuring we keep the ball or lack of ambition from the players.

I was disappointed.  When you here chilli cheese dog you think of a hotdog with proper chilli on it wie a bit oh cheese. No a hotdog you buy in a petrol station. Pie was good tho. No grease 👍

Massively overrated, better than the other crap they used to serve but not nearly as good as what everyone was making them out to be.

Some good football at times.
We should have scored a good few more imo.
Banks looks good. Sporle done not bad good for him to get a goal.

It was played like a semi- competitive match however plenty of positives to take from tonight.
Shankland - knew he was a goalscorer but a real hardworking teamplayer
.Banks - early days but he has what is tequired.
Roll on to Tuesday

One of the young lads beside me got a steak one half of it was brick hard.

£4 for a cheeseburger i noticed thats an increase on last season i think and very disappointing as i expected all the prices to be a bit cheaper if not the same with a change to a company using local stuff.

Missus said she got the young lad a bag of sweets for £1 the same was £3 last season.

Re: Dundee United v Cowdenbeath - Fri 19/7/19 (7.45pm)

Thought it was a good watch tonight. We didnt mess around with it too much at the back but actually managed to build a lot through midfield instead of hopeless punts which I liked.

Sporle's inverted runs were strange but he is very comfortable on the ball so it makes sense that he can take the ball in more advanced central positions and actually contribute. Jury's still out on his defensive ability but going forward its pretty clear to see he is miles ahead of other LB options. I enjoyed watching him tonight although he tired near the end and overhit a few crosses.

Shankland as mentioned before, massive player for us. Him, Clark and Stanton had some really promising link-ups that (if they came off) would have resulted in some great goals. Its clearly being worked on a lot.

Young boys all showed up well. Feel like Chalmers has actually gotten taller since the last time I saw him? Banks and Appere better every week.

Liam Smith is a good one.

Butcher is so important for us and I'll argue with anyone who disagrees!

All in all a good result and a promising performance. On to Tuesday!

Re: Dundee United v Cowdenbeath - Fri 19/7/19 (7.45pm)

There’s not an awful lot you can really take with any certainty from that game, Cowdenbeath were very poor, it really should have been 8-0.

Only things I’d really say, Shankland is gonna be a tremendous asset, he creates a lot.  Sporle isn’t the Argentine Brandon Mason after all and it’s another win which is always good.

Re: Dundee United v Cowdenbeath - Fri 19/7/19 (7.45pm)

Only followed the game via Radio Scotland and Twitter updates. Sounds a very positive performance though by all accounts and an improvement on Tuesday night.

Delighted for the young boys Banks, Chalmers and Appere all playing a big part in our win tonight. Congrats to the latter on his 1st ever professional goal. Looking at his physique now it is easy to see just how hard he has worked in the past few months to improve himself. He also played fucking tons of football last season. Well done Louis.

Happy for Sporle too. I slated him last week. So only fair and right to say good finish from him tonight and I hope he can kick on.

P.s. thanks to B+T for posting the goals on Twitter. Shanklands header reminded me a wee bit of Billy Dodds headed goal against St.Johnstone in his hat-trick debut match all those years ago. Great finish.

Re: Dundee United v Cowdenbeath - Fri 19/7/19 (7.45pm)

Maybe just me after speaking to a couple of mates after but I thought we played really well, zipped the ba' about enjoying the wet grassy surface without fucking about as much fae the back to the midfield as recently. I'd like us to be more direct and utilise Shankland more but  him & Clark could have had another 3 or 4 between them on another day. Could have been 7,8 or 9 nil. Their keeper had some really decent saves.

Delighted to see Shankland, Appere & Sporle all score in their competitive debuts at Tannadice. All needed that to happen especially Sporle. Appere is not a greedy striker (yet) and will definately improve. Really appreciate his tactical awareness.

Banks looked more than promising. Can't wait to see what he will do for us this season.

Ken it was against a poorer team and hard to compair much but liked a lot of what I saw us try and do.
